greygerbil on AO3, thank you for writing or drawing for me! Right from the start, I want to say you don’t have to do anything with my prompts, they’re just here in case you want some ideas. If it has my pairing and avoids my DNWs, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it! All ratings are great. I included a list of my general likes and smut likes which apply to all my requests. When it comes to kinks, you can include anything not listed under my DNWs.

Feel free to entirely erase the existence of canon relationships or break them up if they get in the way of the pairings I requested, whichever works best with what you’re trying to do.

Fic where the couple is not yet together but clearly in love, or on the road to getting together, or having their first time kissing/in bed together are great. However, so are established relationship fics. Whatever suits your ideas!

Some prompts may read like ideas for longer fics, but if you’re interested in them, please just grab a scene with the general idea out of the middle of those hypothetical longfics and write me that! I like black-and-white lineart just as much as elaborately shaded coal or pencil drawings and, of course, colours of every sort, traditional and digital alike. I’d very much like to see my requested pairings in your style, but if you have a specific stylistic idea, that’s always super fun, too.

Literally any motive that indicates the picture is shippy would always be appreciated, from hand-holding to explicit porn. I’m also always here for pictures of battle couples in action, if you enjoy fight scenes, or the characters doing simple, everyday things together and enjoying themselves. I don’t have pairing-specific art prompts, but I hope the tags themselves can work as inspiration.

Granblue Fantasy: Benjamin | Aoidos/Justin/Valentin

Let’s get the whole band together! I really liked the vibe between these three from what little we got to see. Whether it’s Vicious Three in its short heyday or Justin and Valentin adjusting around the new Aoidos (and Aoidos dealing with recovering his memories and incorporating them into his personality), all would be good. I’d be happy for something that goes deeper into their personalities and relationships, or a plotty fic of them getting roped into Skyfarer or merc work, but I would also enjoy smut, considering these three were like a BDSM porn waiting to happen when Benjamin was still around.

For smut, I prefer bottom Valentin and have no preference between the other two. If you include mpreg, I prefer pregnant Valentin. For A/B/O, I prefer omega Valentin and alpha or beta Benjamin | Aoidos and Justin (however, alpha or beta Valentin being “forced” (willingly) into the omega role by the other two would also be fun).

This fic can of course also include Benjamin | Aoidos/Justin, Justin/Valentin, or Benjamin | Aoidos/Valentin as long as it eventually turns into a closed triad; I just don't want anybody actively, purposefully cheating on somebody else, but muddled circumstances and we’re-pretending-we're-just-FWB-but-actually-pining is fine (as is two of them actively looking for a third, or just happening to find one, of course). Valentin does seem to be indestructible for some reason, so feel free to take a loose interpretation on the DNW “no debilitating mutilations for sexual pleasure”. If all his body parts stay attached and he’s not permanently disabled in some way, I’m totally fine with it (even if they do stuff that really should permanently disable a human being, as long as Valentin bounces back from it...).

Emotionally repressed but deeply in love character finally breaks and gives into feelings

Justin would be a prime character for this, I feel, since he mostly seems to communicate his emotions through stabbing people (which isn’t that much of a problem if it’s Valentin, but on a general level not that great an idea). How does he end up giving in to his feelings? Does he tell Benjamin/Aoidos and Valentin? Does he just kiss them without warning? Is there... a hug?

Aoidos fighting with his own inner demon Benjamin could also be this, although he’s otherwise not very, uh, quiet when it comes to his emotion. Do his feelings finally find their way out through a song? Some other grand gesture? Or what if it’s Benjamin, who doesn’t exactly repress his murderous urges, but might have more trouble communicating love?

So Valentin is certainly not repressing his masochistic side, but seems otherwise almost less vocal than Justin about missing Aoidos. I could imagine him keeping some stuff locked up and because he’s always talking about getting kicked, it’s not obvious. What does happen when it actually breaks out of him? Is he worried Justin and/or Benjamin will think real affection is crossing a line? Hopefully he’s wrong!

Character A resents how much they love Character B

... and Character C, that is. This sounds perfect for Justin. Maybe he can’t believe he actually likes this new Aoidos version of Benjamin, maybe he can’t believe he fell for someone like Valentin (there’s nothing even special about him!), maybe he can’t believe he fell in love period. Can the other two unravel the ball of anger that is Justin?

Benjamin or even Aoidos (in one of his angrier moods) would also work for this. Benjamin might just be angry at the idea of love period, and Aoidos might wonder if he’s being influenced by his old self, or struggling with details such as that Justin stabbed him and he still loves him. Can they figure it out?

Perhaps Valentin thinks Benjamin/Aoidos and Justin are more interested in each other romantically and so being in love with them is the one pain he’s not into very much and he does in fact resent his feelings for them. Maybe he doesn’t have to worry, though...

Untrusting Character Falls Asleep on/near Character They Never Intended to Trust

I feel like this could be any of them, especially at the start of the band? Valentin’s background is never mentioned, but the Vicious Three have this theme of speaking to the unheard, so I imagine he also knows to be on his guard, and Justin and Benjamin of course do as well. Then trust and affection and stuff begins to develop and that’s like... oh no.

Alternatively, Aoidos knows it would probably be smarter not to trust his crazy ex-and-again-bandmates, but yet it happens anyway.

Characters write thinly-veiled love songs about each other instead of talking about it

The issue when all three of you are musicians is that you can just sing ballads and angry metal songs at each other all day instead of talking about your feelings. Who makes them aware that they’re definitely in love? The other band members? The audience?

Hurt/Comfort - Back rubs to ease headache

Could be any of them! Well, maybe Valentin would enjoy a headache, lol, but perhaps it’s also currently annoying to him because it’s disturbing his concentration at the drums. The others might really like to get a tension headache relieved, though. Two guys doting on their boyfriend (as much as these people ever dote) would be nice.

Graphic Depictions of Hugging

I just really enjoy hugging. Whether it’s big bear hugs, crushing hugs, awkwardly stiff but heartfelt hugs, one-armed hugs that pull the person against the other’s side, hugs to protect from the cold, hugs combined with forehead kisses, hugging in bed or during sex, or all others, I love it.

Size Difference - taller character likes how it feels to hold smaller love interest close to them

Justin is a small man and I wish for the other two to hug him, maybe even squeeze him between them (which I’m not sure he’d appreciate but he’ll have to deal, lol). I think Aoidos/Benjamin might also be somewhat shorter than Valentin? It’s kind of unclear. Nevertheless, if you choose to make it so, Valentin could squeeze two smaller men and that’s like, even more than one, so that’s also good.

Maybe Justin being hugged by his taller boyfriends or Aoidos/Benjamin and Justin being hugged by Valentin is how they sleep. Benjamin, Justin and Valentin will never tell, but Aoidos just might, lol.

Hot Springs

As a long-time anime fan, I am of course contractually obligated to request a hot spring episode – if they find one that’ll let in someone who looks as strangely cut-up as Valentin. Whether they just get to relax with fluff and smut, whether it’s hijinks potentially involving the rest of the Grandcypher crew (though I’m sure they can also manage to get up to trouble by themselves), or whether it’s inspiration for a song about boiling alive, all is good.

A is hit on by someone pushy; B steps in as A's fake significant other; fake to real pipeline

Or significant otherS, as it might be. If this is Justin or Benjamin being hit on, Valentin and whoever is not currently being hit on may actually be trying to save the pushy person’s life (not because they care, but maybe a bloodbath at that point wouldn’t be a great idea for some external reason). If Valentin and Juston do it for Aoidos, it might actually be a genuine attempt to save him from an annoying fan or something like that and since they know Aoidos prefers peaceful resolutions (sigh), this is what they come up with. Turns out, though, playing boyfriends is fun.

If Valentin is the one being hit on, Benjamin and Justin simply dragging him away as his pretend-rightful owners could definitely leave an impression on him. Aoidos and Justin playing slightly more normal boyfriends might also be more interesting than he realised, though. Perhaps the other two also quite enjoyed it...

Rescue - Captive character surprised to learn their rescuer is motivated by genuine affection

If it’s Justin, maybe he’s surprised that the other two actually care this much about him as a person? Like, he’s pretty abrasive (for the version of abrasive that involves angrily stabbing your friends) and not exactly trying to hide it, but for some reason those two were really worried.

Valentin might figure that the other two keep him around as a punching bag and because of his talent as a drummer (both of which he appreciates), but that he’s ultimately expendable. Turns out the other two do not intend to let Valentin be taken away.

Aoidos probably realises the other two are very attached to him considering the lengths they went through to get him back, but maybe there was a moment for Benjamin earlier on during their run as Vicious Three where he had a moment of realisation?

Characters read in-universe A/B fics while A/B are mutually pining

Where there’s fandom, there’s fic, and we know these guys have a dedicated following. Maybe they stumble over some fanzines that include steamy stories involving the three of them. Does discussing whether they got potential dynamics right lead to some hands-on demonstrations and perhaps even revelations?

Alternate Universe - Pacific Rim Fusion

I love Pacific Rim AUs, Fusions, whichever way you wanna take it – they can just be pilots in the Pacific Rim world, or Pacific Rim type robots can be a thing in GBF, or it can be a mix where the GBF world is more like the Pacific Rim world or the other way around. I remember the first movie had a robot that was controlled by three people. How did Valentin, Justin and Benjamin end up in one? And maybe after the split over “creative differences”, Justin and Valentin went on to pilot a more traditional Jaeger, but they really want their three-way Jaeger (and third co-pilot) back. How does drifting with Aoidos work out?

Fight scenes in big robots, intense training room sparring sessions that show compatibility, and sudden post-drift-make-outs are always appreciated!

Kemonomimi

I don’t actually need an explanation for why one of them suddenly has animal ears and a tail, but you can make it a plot point if you want! Kemonomimi are, of course, kind of a canonical thing in GBF anyway, but perhaps these are different types of ears than some species would have. However one (or all?) of them come by the ears and tail, I’m sure their boyfriends would like to touch.

Aftermath of sex pollen - sex pollen leads to realization of romantic feelings

So it’s not like these people aren’t sort of almost fucking the entire time, what with Valentin always being open to get spontaneously dommed. However, perhaps sex pollen swept away their inhibitions and their sex ended up being way more passionate and emotional than usual? You can also include the actual sex pollen smut here or just focus on the aftermath, both is great!

Characters With Benefits Who’ve Never Kissed; When They Do It’s a Line Crossing Intimate Moment

As above, they do a lot of very obvious D/s stuff, anyway, but kissing might be a bridge they have all not crossed yet, so that could definitely become a Moment.

Alternatively, maybe Benjamin/Aoidos and Justin kiss in a sort of “look what you can’t have” show to Valentin, but while he enjoys the humiliation, when he actually is pulled into a kiss, the three of them might have to reconsider their relationship.

"Thank Fuck You're Alive!" Emotions Turn Into Frantic Fucking

Perhaps a dangerous merc mission is the reason for this, or they get attacked during a concert. Maybe one of them was in mortal peril, or it could have been all of them at once. Whether they’re in a relationship or this is a first-time thing, both would be really hot.

"Casual" Sex Turning Tender

Okay, as tender as it gets with these people. Maybe more tender than before with Aoidos newly in the mix! But maybe it’s also the original three. It doesn’t have to be vanilla sex, but I can definitely see the mood shifting towards something more intense and romantic and perhaps even including some caresses. How do they deal with that afterwards?

An obvious choice for these three, but I had to include it just to make sure it’s clear that I really would also love 2k of nothing but smut with these dudes. Someone step on Valentin, someone let Justin take out his violent urges on him, and Aoidos will find a way to slot himself into that dynamic as well, I’m sure – whereas Benjamin never had an issue to fit in to begin with.

BDSM - Consensual But Not Safe Or Sane

Safe and sane is already out of the window with these three, but I would like it to be consensual. Otherwise, go wild! Benjamin seemed to be Justin’s match in sadism, if not more. But what about Aoidos? Maybe he brings a completely different dynamic to the bedroom as a Dom that Valentin and Justin will first have to get used to, or maybe his sadism is just a bit more loudly enthusiastic.

Do they like toys, elaborate games with props (like rope bondage), or mostly use their hands? Do they make liberal use of healing potions and Valentin’s unexplained inability to be seriously hurt? I’d love to see a session between them.

Well, stoic might be an optimistic description of Valentin, but there really doesn’t seem to be anything that can truly bother him when it comes to pain and it’s hardly like he ends up sobbing, either. Like, you can stab the man and he’ll just take it and walk it off. But maybe Aoidos has a very different style of Domming that leans into the feelings aspect and suddenly Valentin loses all footing? I’m sure Justin would be interested to join in at that point, too. Or maybe Benjamin and Justin are the ones who end up pulling him apart relatively early on. First time having sex after confessing feelings might also do it!

Is this a thing they do? Probably not regularly, but maybe Aoidos starts insisting on it when they’ve really laid into Valentin and then they actually all start to enjoy aftercare, too. Or maybe even Benjamin and Justin will sometimes give a cursory check that Valentin can be pieced together again.

Maybe Aoidos is also the one who needs some cuddling time to come down, even though he is a Dom. Valentin and Justin aren’t used to this, but they decide they can learn.

Character is ashamed of their kinks

I would love a story were meeting Benjamin and whomever of the two he picked up first allows the other one to slowly come to terms with their own kinks. Maybe there was a time when Justin tried to pretend he wasn’t a sadist, or Valentin never talked about wanting to be insulted or kicked (I imagine he was maybe a quiet person then, considering how much he talks about it, lol). The other two leading the one who’s not yet given in on a path of kink self-discovery would be great.

Maybe Aoidos has some sadism-dominance related kinks that he’s ashamed of. Finding out they come from Benjamin might not actually make it better. However, Justin and Valentin provide him with a chance to try it out and enjoy it!

A/B/O - Omega Pretends to be an Alpha

If Valentin also comes from a dodgy background, which is likely, he may have hidden his omega nature so he wouldn’t get dragged away by sketchy alphas. He can easily pass as an alpha looks-wise, so this deception worked out until he unexpectedly went into heat sometime after joining the Vicious Three. Fortunately, his new bandmates are... well, somewhat trustworthy, at least to Valentin.

Or maybe Valentin actually confesses his nature before things get steamy (or because things are about to get steamy). How do they other two react?

In case they never actually had sex until getting together with Aoidos, maybe Valentin just carried on pretending because it’s just what he did his whole life, or he just missed the chance to say it because he was cautious at the start and it’s an odd thing to bring up a year into an acquaintance; but since they’re going to sleep together now, he has to confess. It might be a surprise that he managed to actually keep something secret when he’s so open about his desires otherwise.

A/B/O - Omegas get feisty during heat and fight off alphas to make them prove their worth

Interestingly enough, the one time Valentin does not willingly submit is when he’s in heat (either this is a thing for all omegas, or it’s just some of them or even rare, meaning Justin and Benjamin/Aoidos are pretty surprised that Valentin of all people happens to be one of them). He also looks to be quite a bit physically stronger than his boyfriends if it comes to raw muscle mass, so they might have an issue here. Luckily, it’s two against one! I bet Valentin is also happy when they do manage to subdue him.

Granblue Fantasy: Lu Woh/Wilnas

So the dragons are now trying out their new bodies and while I think that we can all agree that Ewiyar is the one who truly big brained her transformation, I very much appreciate the forms Lu Woh and Wilnas chose, and the personalities they revealed after they got over their grumpiness from waking up. This pairing had me the moment Wilnas said Lu Woh is a nice guy and was angrily told by Lu Woh he shouldn’t always see him as so compassionate! Stern, focused, smart people accidentally falling for exuberant, friendly, enthusiastic ones is just such a good trope. Whether you want them to be dealing with matters of cosmic importance or just finding their way in their new bodies and learning about all that is going on in the skies, it all sounds great. For smut, I prefer bottom and sub Wilnas. If you include mpreg, I prefer pregnant Wilnas. For A/B/O, I prefer omega Wilnas and alpha or beta Lu Woh.

In the time it takes Wilnas to learn how to cook, Lu Woh finds a favourite human food. Wilnas wants to make it for him, of course! Lu Woh is totally not charmed, at all, totally. He may criticise some details Wilnas got wrong. However, he does still happily eat it...

Lu Woh just can’t watch Wilnas try to chat his way out of this situation he clearly doesn’t want to be in anymore – he’s just way too jovial sometimes. Lu Woh has no issue being direct, so he walks over and simply declares himself Wilnas’s boyfriend to put an end to it. Maybe he enjoys it a little more than he thought he would...

Maybe Lu Woh is the one being hit on and just too surprised by the audacity of this mortal to react accordingly, so Wilnas goes over and rescues him by pretending to be his boyfriend, which turns out to be quite fun.

Accidental Baby Acquisition

This would be very cute. Whether it’s a mortal or immortal or dragon baby (somehow) that they acquire, whether it’s plot-heavy or just the two of them (plus potentially their friends) trying to figure out how to manage this child while Lu Woh and Wilnas get closer, all would be fun.

Wilnas learns that during his awakening, he accidentally killed the parent(s) or guardian of a baby who now doesn’t really have anyone. Perhaps Kaeya takes it upon himself to find out more about Albedo after the very odd occurrences in Dragonspine or maybe Albedo guesses there’s more to Kaeya than meets the eye? On the other hand, perhaps it’s also just that they keep meeting at the Knight’s Headquarters and many small conversations build towards a growing interest between them. For smut, I prefer bottom and sub Albedo. If you include mpreg, I prefer pregnant Albedo. For A/B/O, I prefer omega Albedo and alpha or beta Kaeya (scenarios where only homunculi or only humans/Khaenri’aheans have A/B/O or they have A/B/O systems that aren’t completely the same are also fun!).

After receiving his vision, Kaeya has basically decided that his life is just going to keep being this stack of deceptions, since opening up didn’t end well for him, so he’s generally careful. Besides that, he may also think Albedo somewhat suspicious if he was secretly keeping an ear to the ground through the Dragonspine events. Despite all of that, Kaeya finds himself falling asleep on him.

Albedo may guess that Kaeya is not completely who he says he is (either because he’s seen enough people from Khaenri’ah to know Kaeya sure has a very distinctive pupil shape, or for other reasons), and of course he has his own secrets to protect, but somehow, that doesn’t stop him from subconsciously trusting in Kaeya, which he finds out when he wakes up next to him.

Maybe there’s something odd about the way Albedo sleeps – he stops breathing if he’s not making himself do it, or his eyes stay open, or anything else that may give away he’s not fully human, so he has a tangible reason not to sleep close to others. He falls asleep next to Kaeya, anyway, and it turns out Kaeya is not interested in revealing Albedo’s secrets to anyone (though he may be curious himself).

Maybe what they’re doing is still casual at this point, but one coming to bring the other some medicine or their favourite food or a book makes them both consider if this makes sense if they’re simply hooking up.

Kaeya seems like the kind of guy who subtly keeps people at arm’s length, probably including lovers, so when Albedo decides to do Boyfriend Things it’s kind of weird and nice and also unfair because Kaeya is sick/injured and in no psychological constitution to reject him.

Albedo doesn’t seem like he has too much experience with full romantic relationships, or maybe he just didn’t take playful Kaeya for someone who would want to waste an evening hanging around a decidedly un-fun sick/injured person. Of course, then Kaeya turns up and they actually still have a nice time.

Always a great trope. Both want more, both for some reason think the other doesn’t want more, and lack of communication as well as smoldering hot sex was had by all. However, I’d be happy if they managed to clear up the misunderstanding.

Kaeya seems like he can talk his way out of any situation, but perhaps this person is very persistent. Albedo takes pity on his colleague and steps in. Turns out while he’s not exactly the charmer Kaeya is, Albedo can be quite convincing as a fake boyfriend.

I also enjoy BDSM where people were born as either Doms or subs. Is it known that Albedo is a sub or has he kept this conveniently to himself? Maybe he discreetly asked Kaeya if they could help each other with their needs and that starts turning into more? Maybe Kaeya is the one needing help with his urges? Or maybe the two are just very drawn to each other from the start and keep edging and teasing each other until it explodes into passionate sex.

Alternate Universe - BDSM - Longterm Denial of Needs Has Bad Effects; Character Denies Self Anyway

Because of his nature, Albedo was a lot more resilient than most subs when it came to staving off these bad effects, but now they’ve caught up with him (possibly enhanced by hanging around magic radiation mountain aka Dragonspine). Does he realise what’s happening and ask for Kaeya’s help? Or maybe Kaeya is the one who figures out for him why he’s feeling so off (maybe by baiting him with a little PG play to make it obvious).

Kaeya is actually the one who has been denying himself because he’s worried that giving in to his Dom urges will make his composure slip in general, perhaps making him more susceptible to spilling secrets. But perhaps Albedo already knows what he is, or he doesn’t, but Kaeya trusts Albedo enough to let him help, anyway.

Cyberpunk 2077 (Video Game)

Male V/Delamain
Okay, so a taxi service is certainly kind of a new one for me as far as characters I love go, but Delamain and his relationship with V are great. I really like his perspective on humanity and how he purposefully sought out a job where he has a lot of contact with humans and their chaos because he enjoys adapting to it, and also that he seems to have a concept of beauty and some philosophical thoughts on humanity. V also seemed quite impressed with Delamain and considering how many bad things happen around and to V, Delamain seemed like a bright spot in Night City.

From non-lethal to highly dangerous, I’m happy for any interpretation of V that’s not on the road to becoming full cyberpsycho, with any look and origin you prefer. I’m not into requested character death, so if you’re setting it post-ending, it’d be great if Mr. Blue Eyes could find a way to keep V alive, or if V found a different way to cheat the 6 month time limit (this doesn’t have to be part of the story, you can just handwave it). As for Delamain, I’m happy with him being Delamain V.2 (Reset), Delamain Jr. (Merge), Excelsior (Destroy), or for V to find a way to keep Delamain V.1 intact while also releasing his other personalities, in case you’re setting it after Don’t Lose Your Mind.

I prefer Delamain to bottom and sub, but considering his state, those roles might not even be applicable considering he doesn’t have a human body. He can get an android one, though! Or not, both is fine! The only thing I’m not really interested in is objectophilia/sex involving the cars too directly (sitting in the car to jerk off to be close to Delamain, or playfully touching or patting the cars outside of sex would be perfectly fine, though). If you wanna do A/B/O and V is an alpha or a beta who is into omegas, maybe Delamain adjusts his mechanical body accordingly to be closer to that of an omega.

Emotionally repressed but deeply in love character finally breaks and gives into feelings

I feel like V has a lot going on in his head, and that’s not even talking about the dead terrorist that may or may not still be living there. What he really doesn’t need is a relationship with a taxi service, but eventually he maybe surrenders to the fact that this is just happening and fuck it, if you find someone nice in Night City, you should probably just not think about it too hard. Does he go confess to Delamain? Make his feelings known some other way?

It would be interesting if V broke to Johnny and not Delamain himself, whether Johnny is still in his head at this point or they somehow (handwaves) managed to extract both of them into separate bodies after the ending. What is Johnny’s opinion on V’s relationship with Delamain? Does he kick V’s ass so he’ll finally go pursue it properly? He did seem to find Delamain kind of amusing, if nothing else.

AI acquires mechanical body to sleep with partner

Generally, I would love it if the body looked a bit like Delamain’s avatar!

Delamain decides he would like to get an android body to experience even more things with V (sex, certainly, but maybe also so he can go out with him on a date that doesn’t involve a car or a drone). He surprises V with it and while V didn’t think it was necessary, he’s obviously very happy to play.

Delamain brings up the idea to V first before doing it and gives him a chance to help him design his body. Maybe V finds this a bit weird – it’s Delamain’s body! –, but Delamain points out that he has no problems customising the body to V’s tastes, since he’s mostly getting it for him. So V can choose height, how toned he wants him to be, maybe even what set of genitals (would be happy with male, or male and female both, or perhaps it’s even something Delamain can switch out), what those are supposed to look like, and so on. Preparing it could even be sexy in itself, as would be seeing them handle the finished product.

Maybe Delamain hasn’t had proper pleasure receptors yet, either, and so sex is a really overwhelming and new experience at first. V is very happy to push all his buttons.

Robot gets new parts installed to sleep with partner

Perhaps Delamain already got himself a physical representation, but it was a Ken Doll so far. If you want to go into weird wireplay and hacking V might have done to simulate sexual pleasure up to this point, that would also be cool! I’d also like to see Delamain decide that it might make sense to upgrade, though.

Maybe Delamain mentioning that he really should upgrade because they somehow keep ending up in bed (despite the fact that Delamain isn’t even really built for that yet) forces them to think about their relationship.

Does Delamain pick his own upgrades or does he recruit V for that?

I just really enjoy hugging. Whether it’s big bear hugs, crushing hugs, awkwardly stiff but heartfelt hugs, one-armed hugs that pull the person against the other’s side, hugs to protect from the cold, hugs combined with forehead kisses, hugging in bed or during sex, or all others, I love it.

V graphically hugging that cute little Delamain drone would also be very welcome.

Perhaps sitting in a Delamain taxi can also feel a bit like a hug under the right circumstances and with the right words?

Fluff and Hurt/Comfort

Either of these tropes are always awesome, no matter which direction you want to take them in. Whether it’s cuddling or one character quietly doing something nice for the other, wound care after a battle or a kiss when someone broods over something weighing on their mind, or any other version that could apply to these two tropes, I am here for it.

Hurt/Comfort - Injured A shows Up on B's doorstep Saying "I didn't know where else to go"

V has gotten into some trouble or another and doesn’t want to bring it to the doorsteps of his non-combatant friends (that, or after coming back from the dead, he hasn’t managed to settle back into life yet and hasn’t reconnected with them). Delamain, however, has a lot of taxis that double as heavy-grade weaponry and is also willing to hide V for a bit. Maybe they get to talking!

Perhaps Delamain HQ got bombed or taken over or something. Pulling all his processing power into one taxi (in that case, he’ll show up in V’s garage, I guess...), his drone, or a robot body, Delamain ends up stranded at V’s place. After all, V is his only real friend (and maybe a little more).

Hurt/Comfort - Back rubs to ease headache

Maybe Delamain programs some of the mechanical arms in the repair shop to do it, maybe the drone rolls its round body against V’s back, or maybe Delamain just has a human body he can use to help relieve a tension headache for V, but it’d just be a nice, hopefully peaceful (if undisturbed) moment between them.

Hurt/Comfort - Character A Doesn’t Know How To Help Hurt B Because Of Their Nonhuman Biology

A V who is not a great hacker might have some trouble helping Delamain through a virus or another sort of attack that is pretty uncomfortable/painful for Delamain. Maybe V gets Judy on the case? Or maybe he just has to wait for Delamain to figure it out himself, but really, having V around was still a sort of help for Delamain.

Characters With Benefits Who’ve Never Kissed; When They Do It’s a Line Crossing Intimate Moment

Okay, so another reason they may not have kissed is that Delamain may not have had a body, but even if he did, maybe they avoided it (I doubt Delamain has inherent feelings about kisses, but he might realise the cultural significance). Except then they do kiss, possibly a sweet peck or a passionate kiss, maybe in a dramatic situation or just on V’s sofa, but whichever one it is, it seems to mean a lot.

A is hit on by someone pushy; B steps in as A's fake significant other; fake to real pipeline

Delamain will probably need a body for these purposes. V can deal with pushy idiots, but this one’s just annoying and maybe he just wants to drink in peace; or it’s a client or fixer he doesn’t want to scare off completely. Luckily, Delamain introduces himself as V’s boyfriend, friendly as always, but hard to ignore. If the dude is someone V has to work with, maybe they have to keep up the deception for a bit, too...

Delamain is not used to being seriously flirted with, but his new body is very lifelike (that, or someone has started to hit on his Avatar on the screen). While he’s still trying to find a proper answer (especially if it’s a client he has to meet again), V, ostensibly his dangerous merc boyfriend you shouldn’t mess with, suddenly slides in. Delamain is thankful and a bit intrigued...

A & B have to cancel planned date because A's ill/injured. B comforts and makes evening romantic

V gets sick, but Delamain send over his robot body, or, if he doesn’t have one, his drone with a bag of helpful things tied around it.

Perhaps sick/injured V decides he’d really like to sleep on the backseat of a Delamain, anyway. It’d be a good way for Delamain to talk to him!

Maybe Delamain has to recover from a cyberattack, so a hacking-inclined V comes with help in the form of his expertise and presence.

Size Difference - taller character likes how it feels to hold smaller love interest close to them

Maybe Delamain’s robot body is significantly shorter or taller than V. The taller one between them enjoys this (the shorter one, too, I hope, lol).

V also likes how it feels to hold the small Delamain drone.

Rescue - Captive character surprised to learn their rescuer is motivated by genuine affection

Maybe someone is keeping the Delamain Core hostage, or somehow managed to trap Delamain’s consciouscness on a hostile server. When V fights his way through to take them apart, Delamain is surprised (and perhaps pleased to know) how much genuine anger V seems to feel.

When V gets taken hostage in some open area by baddies, half a dozen determined driverless taxis with way too much ammunition suddenly descend on them. As V makes it inside one, Delamain seems honestly relieved. V is pleasantly surprised that a AI can seem this genuinely affectionate.

Maybe V gets in trouble while with one of his friends, like Kerry, who is very surprised when a worried taxi comes to save them.

Misty and Vik learn about their relationship when an oddly worried Delamain taxi drives V in for emergency surgery.

Judy is somewhat surprised to find V at her door in the middle of the night begging her to split Delamain from his rogue personalities without making him lose his mind (or to fix another cyberattack on him).

Aftermath of sex pollen - sex pollen leads to realization of romantic feelings

Maybe it’s only V who gets infected because it’s sex pollen for organics, but Delamain helps him and somehow they both end up having so much fun that one wonders... Or perhaps it’s a virus that affects AIs and people with too much chrome in their heads equally, and they still end up having a lot of fun with each other. You can also include the actual sex pollen smut here or just focus on the aftermath, both is great!

Can't Stop Thinking About It - A sees B having sex with someone who looks like A

V suddenly developed a taste for well-mannered men in corpo suits (preferably bald, finding one with blue lipstick is probably too much to ask...). This is so out of his normal range that Delamain can’t help but take notice. He’s just trying to understand those fascinating humans a bit more, honest...

One of the Delamain lookalikes wants to show off and calls a Delamain taxi for V and him to take home/to a love hotel. V is dying inside a little.

Delamain has a body now and V catches said body in the act of picking up a merch with ostentatious clothing.

Alternate Universe - Pacific Rim Fusion

I love Pacific Rim AUs, Fusions, whichever way you wanna take it – they can just live in the Pacific Rim world, or Pacific Rim type robots can be a thing in Cyberpunk, or it can be a mix where the Cyberpunk world is more like the Pacific Rim world or the other way around. Perhaps Johnny and V count as a Jaeger pair because they’re technically two people (or in this AU they actually are still two people)? In that case, Delamain could be the coordinating AI in HQ that is built into the Jaegers as well, kind of like he’s in the taxis. Or maybe Delamain is a robot pilot himself, or the program training new pilots?

Delamain is usually just the coordinating AI, but they built him a body so he could drift with single pilots. Turns out V needs someone (maybe Johnny ditched him for Kerry or Rogue, or got kicked out of the program) and working with Delamain is surprisingly easy.

That, or Delamain was never meant to drift outside of simulations for trainee pilots, but oh no, emergency, someone needs to pilot a Jaeger with V.

Fight scenes in big robots, intense training room sparring sessions that show compatibility, and sudden post-drift-make-outs are always appreciated!

"Thank Fuck You're Alive!" Emotions Turn Into Frantic Fucking

Perhaps a dangerous mission is the reason for this, or a gang battle, or – well, there’s many opportunities to almost die in Night City, especially for V. Post-ending would also make a lot of sense here when V returns to Delamain, or after V manages to save the original Delamain!

Maybe one of them was in mortal peril, or it could have been both of them at once. Whether they’re in a relationship or this is a first-time thing, both would be really hot.

"Casual" Sex Turning Tender

Maybe at the start V really just did want to know what it’d be like sleep with an AI (and how you would even make that work), and Delamain was simply interested in sex. However, over time, it becomes harder to deny that there’s more between them, and it becomes especially obvious when they have sex that just seems way too filled with intense emotion to count as casual anymore.

Maybe it really was curiosity that made V start to give Delamain sex lessons at the start, since he wanted to know what it’d be like to sleep with an AI, or maybe he was just telling himself that (and maybe Delamain would never have grown this curious about sex without meeting V...). However it started, it’s probably really not that necessary anymore, but they keep doing it. Isn’t Delamain an AI who can thus retain information really quickly, anyway? Well... I would love to see any of the sex lessons, or also the moment they realise it’s probably not tutoring anymore.

BDSM - Undercover At A BDSM Club

V needs to get into a BDSM club, but his target is only there on couple’s night or there’s a general Plus One-policy. Delamain has a brand new body, so maybe... Delamain finds the idea interesting and agrees to be V’s sub, whether or not he really knows what that means. Are they already together and realise something new about their kinks? Or are they just friends and now there’s really obvious sexual tension between them?

Clothed Dom/Naked Sub

Whether Delamain has a body or V orders Delamain’s full-body avatar to take off his clothes, Clothed Dom and Naked Sub is just a trope I find extremely hot.

I also like BDSM stories where everybody is born as either a sub or a Dom. V is a Dom, but with everything that has been going on, he really hasn’t had time to indulge in, well, much of anything, really. Now he’s slowly starting to get stir-crazy, but he also doesn’t want to grab a random sub off the street because while he won’t be the one kneeling, he’ll still be distracted as long as he’s busy and that can get dangerous in Night City. Delamain offers that he’ll simulate being a sub for him. It works surprisingly well.

道祖师 | Módào Zǔshī: Jiang Cheng/Lan Xichen

This is a pairing I’ve really come to enjoy despite the fact that they don’t have that much contact in canon – at least not that we see because I assume as leaders of major sects, and with Lan Xichen being so close to Jin Ling’s other guardian, they have actually met quite a bit. We know from Lan Xichen’s friendship with Nie Mingjue that he can handle tempestuous temperaments. Also, I feel like Lan Xichen ticks, though not at all, quite a few boxes on Jiang Cheng’s romance checklist, so that’s good! This could be set right after the war (it would probably be difficult after Wei Wuxian’s death due to Lan Xichen’s loyalty to his brother, who does not like Jiang Cheng past the Burial Mound siege, but perhaps Lan Xichen’s and Jiang Cheng’s relationship somehow ends up preventing the whole Wei Wuxian thing from going really south in the first place, or the Wen fled and that entire plot disappears entirely); or it could be post-canon, when they both have to work through their pain. Either way would be interesting! Post-canon, Jiang Cheng is probably not super welcome in the Cloud Recesses courtesy of Lan Wangji as long as he and Wei Wuxian haven’t had some sort of reconciliation, but does Lan Xichen end up facilitating it, or do the two of them end up meeting more once Jiang Cheng drops by sometimes to see Wei Wuxian after having a heart-to-heart with him? For smut, I prefer bottom and sub Lan Xichen. If you include mpreg, I prefer pregnant Lan Xichen. For A/B/O, I prefer omega Lan Xichen and alpha or beta Jiang Cheng.

If this is Jiang Cheng, I imagine ‘breaking’ involves either pushing Lan Xichen against a wall for a kiss or shouting a love declaration with unwarranted anger or something along those lines. So, not completely getting over that emotional repression, but I think Lan Xichen would probably know him well enough after all these years to realise it’s well-meant. (Flustered Jiang Cheng getting a hug/kiss from a happy Lan Xichen afterwards would be very cute, too.)

Of course, Lan Xichen shoves it all down under a smile, but he’s not exactly always open with his feelings, either. What does it look like when he breaks? Does he come running after Jiang Cheng as he’s about to leave the Cloud Recesses? Write a heartfelt letter? Just kiss him and them almost die of mortification?

Getting Together - Recovering from Shared Trauma Leads to Feelings and Codependency

This could definitely be after the war. All of these guys went through quite a lot and maybe Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng find unlikely support in each other, both being young sect leaders. Perhaps Lan Xichen was just going to help Jiang Cheng out a bit with his sect in the beginning, too, but then... some codependency might not be the best trama response, but honestly, in a world where you’re not getting your PTSD treated any other way, it’s also not the worst. (Plus, maybe their relationship somehow keeps the WWX thing from going so wrong.)

Also, while they were traumatised by different things in the Guanyin Temple and the lead-up to it, they sure both left unhappy! Maybe they can help each other up. If they end up clinging to each other a little, I’m sure it could be forgiven.

Fluff and Hurt/Comfort

Jiang Cheng doesn’t seem like someone who accepts or dispenses a lot of fluff and comfort – at least not in the usual way. Lan Xichen relentlessly doting on him, anyway, or Jiang Cheng being caustic while still actually being nice to a hurt Lan Xichen wold be cute.

Jiang Cheng is ill/injured and annoyed about it because Lan Xichen and him already don’t get to spend much time together. He’s probably also not someone who invites a lot of comforting, just because of his personality, especially post-canon when he’s grown harsher over the years. No matter, Lan Xichen isn’t daunted and Jiang Cheng is going to get spoiled.

Lan Xichen is the one who is ill/injured. Jiang Cheng won’t be stopped from walking straight into his room – just to make sure he’s alright, of course (but maybe he coincidentally brought a small gift/something else romantic, too).

Character trying to hold it together is clearly fraying at the edges

Lan Xichen comes out of seclusion because the sect needs him to. He’s not any better than he was, but since his tragedy all feels like his fault anyway, heaping more work on his uncle won’t help, either. However, he keeps running into Jiang Cheng, who is not shy about his real opinion and sees Lan Xichen is close to collapsing. Somehow, that bluntness does help, though, because it seems like someone cares...

Jiang Cheng now knows he has Wei Wuxian’s original core stuck inside of him, which forces him to re-evaluate the last 15+ years of his life, not to mention the damage to his always somewhat frail self-confidence. To his surprise, Lan Xichen is actually sympathetic.

Honestly, this could be happening simultaneously. In trying to power through their individual damages, they realise the other needs support and end up helping each other.

For a pre-time skip version: Jiang Cheng insists that he doesn’t want his brother back, but clearly does. Lan Wangji is quietly pining at the Yiling Patriarch. Maybe having both of these guys close actually changes Lan Xichen’s course of action and thus the trajectory of the story (hopefully for something happier)?

Character Expecting Hurt but Receiving Comfort

After the scene he made in the Guanyin Temple, Jiang Cheng expects nothing but polite contempt from Lan Xichen (which definitely would hurt because he quite likes him). To his surprise, Lan Xichen acts quite understanding towards him.

Lan Xichen blames himself for everything that happened in the last fifteen years, more or less, and figures there’s no one who knows the truth who would do otherwise. To his surprise, the usually harsh Jiang Cheng is the one who drags him out of seclusion/welcomes him when he leaves and he doesn’t seem to look down on Lan Xichen at all.

The Lan have cold springs, but I feel like Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng should also learn about the pleasure of hot springs at some point. Whether it’s an excuse for fluff or smut, shenanigangs with other characters (like your usual anime hot spring episode), or just the two of them having a chance to relax in peace for a bit, all would be great.

Rescue - Captive character surprised to learn their rescuer is motivated by genuine affection

Maybe this is during a war or a hunt. Obviously, both of them would come save the other because saving people is kind of their job, but when the rescuer shows up, it sure seems like they’re actually very concerned on a personal level.

Probably most likely for a version of canon where same-sex relationships are more widely accepted or a Modern AU, but if you can somehow fit it into canon-verse, I’d love to read that, too!

Jiang Cheng is struggling to get rid off a pushy suitor and perhaps circumstances mean he can’t just use Zidian to swipe them away since getting into a fight would be messy. Lan Xichen wants to help and can only think of introducing himself as Jiang Cheng’s boyfriend. Jiang Cheng finds this proposition more intriguing than he wants to.

Jiang Cheng is watching polite and somewhat too nice Lan Xichen struggling and failing to free himself from being hit on. Eventually, he takes pity on him and goes over and just claims him for himself. Lan Xichen is very impressed (and possibly enjoys being Jiang Cheng’s date for the evening more than he should).

Perhaps whoever was hitting on the other is a fellow cultivator or business partner who’ll be around for a while, so now they have to keep it up for a bit...

Accidental Baby Acquisition

Orphans from the war against the Wen, lonely babies left over in ghostly catastrophes... Jiang Cheng has already accidentally acquired one baby in canon, so it could easily happen again. Somehow, Lan Xichen and him are both involved. Are they already together or do they get closer while co-parenting?

Speaking of that, Jin Ling is kind of an accidental baby acquisition for Jiang Cheng. Well, toddler, I think, by the time Jin Guangshan dies, but still. I’m sure Lan Xichen would be around to assist Jiang Cheng, especially if they’re in a relationship.

Aftermath of sex pollen - sex pollen leads to realization of romantic feelings

You run into so much weird stuff while being a cultivator! Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen stumble over sex pollen, but the strangely intense, passionate sex they have can’t be fully explained just by that. You can also include the actual sex pollen smut here or just focus on the aftermath, both is great!

Our Courtship Was So Low-key You Couldn't Even Tell It Was Happening

The Yiling Patriarch situation suddenly stops being everyone’s focus when Jiang Cheng announces his engagement to Lan Xichen. Through a series of related coincidences, the story thus takes a less terrible turn for everybody.

Post-canon, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian think their brothers are meeting because of sect business. Eventually, they announce their engagement / Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian catch them making out in the hanzi.

A modern AU where things are not as dire but Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are totally captured in their epic romance and don’t notice their brothers chatting animatedly whenever they meet would also be funny.

This could perhaps be even outsider POV from Wei Wuxian or Lan Wangji.

Arranged Marriage

Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen were promised to each other as kids, but only met in the Cloud Recesses when Jiang Cheng visited and weren’t really encouraged to hang out there much, as the Lan don’t consider it proper. Then, the war happens. Afterwards, they are leading their respective sects and have to reassess if they still want to keep up that betrothal... I would like if if they decided for it, of course.

Maybe they were married early on, when too young to consummate the marriage, so the decision is taken from them, but they never really got to spend much time together. When they finally have some time to get to know each other during/after the war, they realise they actually like each other.

The two arrange their own marriage to stand as a more united front before the Wen (the Lan and Nie are already kind of connected through the friendship of their leaders, but Lotus Pier stands a little alone). It was a political decision, but then they actually get to know each other during or after the war.

Modern AU Arranged Marriage would also be interesting! In that scenario, they probably just have the other suggested to them and have the right to refuse each other (even if their traditional families are pressuring them for the lucrative connection). Maybe one of them was convinced they’d reject the other right away at the first meeting, but then they accidentally hit it off.

Mutual Pining In Arranged Marriage

Would go really well with some of the prompts above! Generally, I really enjoy this in any sort of arranged marriage scenario, though, so run wild! I would love it if they did find out they were both pining at some point, though.

Alternate Universe - Modern Day

I would enjoy all sorts of Modern AUs for these guys, whether they’re still cultivators or businessmen or whatever else you would like. I’m sure their relationship still has some hiccups, but sometimes I just want nice things for them (which does not mean there can’t be lots of bloody problems in Modern AUs, too, but perhaps things don’t go as totally sideways as they do in canon).

Alternate Universe - Pacific Rim Fusion

I love Pacific Rim AUs, Fusions, whichever way you wanna take it – they can just live in the Pacific Rim world, or Pacific Rim type robots can be a thing in MDZS (possibly powered by magic, or maybe it’s Steampunk now), or it can be a mix where the MDZS world is more like the Pacific Rim world or the other way around. Perhaps they used to drift with their brothers, but Wangxian ditched them for each other and now they’re both short a co-pilot? May as well try to drift with each other... or maybe they only find out about their compatibility in a crisis situation when no regular pilot team is available? (Maybe they even go to save their brothers.)

Fight scenes in big robots, intense training room sparring sessions that show compatibility, and sudden post-drift-make-outs are always appreciated!

I don’t actually need an explanation why one of them (or two, or all the cultivators) suddenly has animal ears and tails, but you can make it a plot point, too, if you want! Maybe you adopt the features of an animal that matches you when you cultivate to a certain point? Maybe it’s hereditary and the Lan all have bunny ears? Can Jiang Cheng resist petting Lan Xichen’s? Do the Jiangs also have animal ears and tail and if yes, which animal?

"Thank Fuck You're Alive!" Emotions Turn Into Frantic Fucking

Perhaps a dangerous hunt is the reason for this, or a battle during the war. Maybe one of them was in mortal peril, or it could have been both of them at once. Whether they’re in a relationship or this is a first-time thing, both would be really hot.

"Casual" Sex Turning Tender

I always love situations were characters had convinced themselves they were only having a bit of fun together, but then at some point sex ends up being unexpectedly intimate and/or passionate and/or sweet and they are forced to re-evaluate their relationship (whether this happens the very first time they do it, or at a later point).

Character A Embarrassed By Coming Too Quickly But Character B Doesn't Mind

Lan Xichen is trying to be self-possessed as the Lan Sect asks it of his members, but Jiang Cheng’s effect on him is just too strong. While Lan Xichen is embarrassed about his lack of control, Jiang Cheng is delighted to be able to push him to this point.

I could see Jiang Cheng being very embarrassed and annoyed if it happened to himself, but Lan Xichen assures him he’s absolutely fine with Jiang Cheng wanting him that much.

Maybe one of them has a more permanent problem with this and the other is happy to help them train their stamina (or just make them come several times in a row).

Character is ashamed of their kinks

Always a great topic, too. I would love Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng exploring kinks together. Are both or is one of them fairly inexperienced? Or maybe one has a particular kink in mind and the other is happy to follow their lead. Maybe someone got their hand on a pornography book and they’re working through that. I could see either of them being embarrassed, but I’m sure the other would happily encourage them. Anything would be fun, and any kink not in my DNW list would work for this, go wild.

Praise Kink

Jiang Cheng? Jiang Cheng, haha. I feel like this is something that could so easily apply to him, though he’s very likely not admitting it to himself. However, when Lan Xichen praises him, it really goes through him from head to toe.

Or maybe Jiang Cheng already knows, to his chagrin, that if a handsome, kind man who he likes praises him, that’s going to hit bullseye. He brushes Lan Xichen off brusquely whenever he does it, but Lan Xichen is the sort of person who just naturally ends up praising people, so Jiang Cheng eventually cannot help but lean into it.

However, I could also see this with Lan Xichen. Despite the fact that he’s highly regarded, real personal praise doesn’t really seem the way in the Lan sect, especially not if you’re raised by Lan Qiren, lol. So when Jiang Cheng praises him for something and it goes straight through him, Lan Xichen is surprised, probably embarrassed, and desperate for more.

BDSM

Perhaps Jiang Cheng wants to be dominant, but because of his whole inferiority complex cluster of issues, he feels like he might get laughed at by his partner – especially by Lan Xichen, who is probably his equal in strength, if not more, so why would he kneel before him? Lan Xichen finds out somehow and he’s not at all bothered by the idea of being Jiang Cheng’s submissive (in fact, he rather likes it).

Or Lan Xichen likes the idea of submitting, but feels like as a sect leader he should not have such thoughts. Jiang Cheng coaxes it out of him and indulges him.

However they get there, inappropriate use Zidian would also be a great idea here.

BDSM - Inflicting Pain Until Character Has Much-needed Emotional Breakdown

The greatest emotional outburst Lan Xichen had was when he thought Wei Wuxian was leading on his brother and even that didn’t last for long. Maybe instead of Lan Xichen relying on melancholic flute solos to deal with his own pain, Jiang Cheng can use BDSM to draw him out emotionally – whether that was actually planned or not. Perhaps Lan Xichen is just usually a very resilient sub and when he breaks down this time, Jiang Cheng is very worried. However, it turns out to have been for the best.

Obviously not quite as intended, but could be read that way: Maybe Dom Jiang Cheng is the one who has the emotional breakdown? Like he just keeps wailing on Lan Xichen, who is pretty resilient and not opting out, and the rush of endorphins plus the awareness of the implicit trust Lan Xichen has in him makes Jiang Cheng topple and have to end the scene (added comfort afterwards would be great!).

Clothed Dom/Naked Sub

Just an inherently hot kink to me. Does the Lan forehead ribbon stay on or does Jiang Cheng take special pleasure in making sure Lan Xichen isn’t wearing that last shred of cloth anymore, either?

Alpha Jiang Cheng is annoyed. Of course he had to fall for an alpha, someone he can’t marry because he needs heirs... except, it turns out luck is on Jiang Cheng’s side for once because Lan Xichen is not an alpha. Does Lan Xichen actively hide he is an omega, or did Jiang Cheng simply assume and the revelation is just Lan Xichen or someone else mentioning his nature off-handedly? (This would probably be the case if Lan Xichen had only presented fairly recently, as I assume the news would otherwise have made it through the gossipy cultivation world already.)

Maybe Lan Xichen hides his nature from everybody to keep responsibility off (beta or alpha) Lan Wangji’s shoulders, or a few in his sect know, but the Lan elders are worried the Wen sect will demand their omega as tribute if it’s more widely known; or maybe there’s another reason. Whatever it is, Lan Xichen eventually confides in Jiang Cheng, maybe when it looks like they’ll get captured during the war. Alpha Jiang Cheng is glad for his trust except now his crush is less hopeless, which is worse somehow.

Lan Xichen’s nature is revealed against his will and he’s facing a lot of criticism for being the sect leader still, despite having a better suited brother (even though Lan Wangji does not want that position). Jiang Cheng steps in to support him him in public and Lan Xichen is very thankful and perhaps a bit surprised. Jiang Cheng honestly thinks Lan Xichen is more worthy than any of the people criticising him – but it doesn’t mean that the reveal wasn’t interesting to him in other ways...

A/B/O - Omegas get feisty during heat and fight off alphas to make them prove their worth

This also sounds like some sort of tradition or biological fact or ritual to me (it’s probably not something Lan Xichen decided by himself, anyway). Maybe no one so far has had any luck, even though he’s done this for a few heats? Lan Xichen is a strong guy and perhaps he wasn’t really motivated to let anyone win yet, either. However, Jiang Cheng might be strong enough to beat him if he decides to take part...

Does Lan Xichen fight him as hard as he can out of a sense of honour until Jiang Cheng has beaten him? Or was he maybe a little easy on him?

A/B/O - BAMF Power Couple Alpha/Omega

Would be perfect for them! They’re both strong cultivators and even if this is an A/B/O setting were omegas are meant to stay off the battlefield if possible, I feel like Jiang Cheng would actually enjoy that Lan Xichen can more than hold his own.

A/B/O - Omega doesn't realize they're in heat but alpha does

Maybe Lan Xichen has always cultivated or taken medicine to suppress his heats or he just presents very late and thought he was a beta, but then, when he’s with Jiang Cheng during the war or visiting Lotus Pier, the heat suddenly hits him like a brick. Jiang Cheng makes sure to drag a confused Lan Xichen out of harm’s way and perhaps also offers help when it seems Lan Xichen’s heat is very painful? Or maybe he just locks him away so he can be safe (while pining profusely), but afterwards a grateful Lan Xichen and him get to talking more...

A/B/O - Alpha With Breeding Kink Can't Stop Touching Their Partner's Belly While They're Tied

Maybe Jiang Cheng is a bit ashamed of his kink and so he doesn’t speak about it, but Lan Xichen notices this habit, anyway, and invites him to indulge (even if they’re using protection of some sort). Perhaps it also gets them seriously thinking about kids (or seriously into trying to actually make them).

Breeding Kink - Character A fucks Character B and tells them how they're going to breed them

For A/B/O or mpreg being possible for some men for any reason at all (or no reason at all), this would be great to see. Maybe Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng are kind of shocked how much they like it, but it’s really hot for both of them when Jiang Cheng talks of it. Or perhaps one of them is slightly embarrassed, but not surprised because they already knew how much they were into this kink.

Maybe mpreg is a thing, but it’s magic or cultivation or something, so having sex doesn’t really factor into it very much. That doesn’t mean that Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng can’t have fun pretending Jiang Cheng is knocking Lan Xichen up, though.

Or this could be entirely set in the canon world and they’re planning to adopt heirs or something, but now they’re pretending what it would have been like to make their children and getting really into it. (Generally, I would prefer if there was a way for them to acquire children that can be their heirs, since I feel like breeding kink would otherwise turn pretty depressing if they know they’ll eventually have to break up because they actually can’t have children together. However, if you do want to go for kind-of-depressing/melancholy breeding kink and then it turns out, whoops, magic mpreg somehow happened and now Lan Xichen is carrying a kid, that would be interesting, too! I basically just don’t want it to be a thing where the kink foreshadows an unavoidable tragic ending, lol.)

Mpreg - Male character gets pregnant by magic

The dangers of being a cultivator are manifold, and getting hit by weird magic is definitely one of them. Maybe some strange ghost or creature or plant uses Jiang Cheng’s life-force to impregnate Lan Xichen, maybe accidentally, maybe because it sees they’re in love, or actually already together. What do they do after they realise what happened? I would like it if they eventually enjoyed the idea of becoming parents – also because this child and access to mpreg magic might mean they don’t have to end their relationship to marry for heirs.

If you wanna get into more complicated family fic, the magic thing could have also used strength from Jiang Cheng’s golden core – which would mean Lan Xichen is currently carrying original Wei Wuxian’s child. However, he’s in a relationship with Jiang Cheng while Wei Wuxian is, of course, with Lan Wangji. Maybe the child ends up having four parents?

A is raped by third party and gets pregnant; B marries A to save A's virtue

For A/B/O or any other reason (some) men can get pregnant: Maybe this happens during the war or on a hunt and Jiang Cheng happens to be the one who finds/rescues Lan Xichen after the rape, so Lan Xichen later confides in him about the unborn child as well. Maybe Lan Xichen only realises too late that he’s pregnant, or he still can’t bring himself to abort the child even if notices earlier (or maybe you wanna go with the fan theory that Lan Xichen knows he himself is not a Lan by blood because his mother killed her rapist and he is that person’s child, which might influence his decision). Either way, Jiang Cheng likes Lan Xichen and knows this would hurt his reputation, so he offers to marry him so Lan Xichen can save face.

Perhaps it’s also post-canon. Lan Xichen is weakened after seclusion and attacked on a hunt. Because he can’t bear to disturb his brother’s happiness after all these years, he wrestles with the repercussions on his own. Somehow, Jiang Cheng ends up finding out, perhaps investigating the incident for other reasons or because he realises Lan Xichen is pregnant and acting very odd. When he finds out the reason, Jiang Cheng offers a marriage to Lan Xichen.

Was there already a spark between them when they were married? Or does it develop during the marriage, during the pregnancy or while parenting the baby together? I would also love a fic about them pining and finally revealing their feelings to each other, their first time together, or just sweet family time as a couple.

Do the two ever tell anyone about what really happened? Maybe their brothers/siblings?

Alternate Universe - BDSM

I also like BDSM universes where all people are born as either Doms or subs. Maybe it’s unusual that a sub would lead a sect, but Dom Lan Wangji doesn’t want the position, so sub Lan Xichen is the sect leader. Dom Jiang Cheng tries to tell himself he’s only fascinated by that circumstance, but maybe there’s more to it.

Maybe Dom Jiang Cheng is used to unusual subs due to growing up with sub Wei Wuxian, who isn’t too meek himself, and sub Lan Xichen finds being around him very pleasant because he doesn’t try to dominate or interrogate him. Perhaps there’s more he likes about Jiang Cheng, too...

If Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian can officially be paired off as Dom and sub (or the other way around), maybe sub Lan Xichen and Dom Jiang Cheng end up spending more time around each other because they’re now brothers-in-law. This turns out to have unforeseen consequences.

Alternate Universe - BDSM - Longterm Denial of Needs Has Bad Effects; Character Denies Self Anyway

Sub Lan Xichen doesn’t want to appear weak, so he cultivates to make sure he can resist hostile attacks and generally does not submit. However, this eventually leads to some problems (illness, qi deviation). Jiang Cheng hears about it from Wei Wuxian or runs into Lan Xichen having trouble. He offers his discreet help, non-sexual of course. Except the two of them match well and maybe it doesn’t forever stay non-sexual, nor just simple assistance.

Or maybe, though Jiang Cheng is a Dom, he tends to deny himself, especially in the more stressful times of his life (during the war, after Guanyin Temple). Now he’s slowly starting to get stir-crazy, but he also doesn’t want to grab a random sub off the street because while he won’t be the one kneeling, he’ll still be distracted as long as he’s busy with them. To his surprise, Lan Xichen offers himself up for non-sexual play. It works surprisingly well (though perhaps doesn’t stay forever non-sexual, nor just simple assistance).

魔道祖师 | Módào Zǔshī: Jin Guangyao/Lan Xichen

The story of these two really hurt me deeply in the best way. It is such a sweet friendship, with Jin Guangyao honestly caring for Lan Xichen despite seeing most everyone else as pawns, and Lan Xichen being so convinced that the world is wrong about Jin Guangyao and unfair to him – and you know, in many ways they really are, but in the end, there were also too many crimes Jin Guangyao actually committed. For Qin Su, I would like it if her and Jin Guangyao had never met/gotten married, or if she had died a natural death at some point, or ran off with a guy/woman she fell in love with to have a happy life somewhere away from cultivation drama. For smut, I prefer bottom and sub Lan Xichen. If you include mpreg, I prefer pregnant Lan Xichen. For A/B/O, I prefer omega Lan Xichen and alpha or beta Jin Guangyao.

Emotionally repressed but deeply in love character finally breaks and gives into feelings

Jin Guangyao seems like someone who would not let something as insignificants as who he falls in love with stand in the way off his plans. He has goals, his less important feelings have to take a step back. Except – he realises that his relationship with Lan Xichen is just not something he wants to compromise anymore. How does he give in to his feelings? Is it a planned love confession, or an uncharacteristically impulsive kiss?

Of course, Lan Xichen shoves it all down under a smile, but he’s not exactly always open with his feelings, either. What does it look like when he breaks? Does he come running after Jin Guangyao as he’s about to leave the Cloud Recesses? Write a heartfelt letter? Just kiss him and them almost die of mortification?

Fluff and Hurt/Comfort

Either of these tropes are always awesome, no matter which direction you want to take them in. Whether it’s cuddling or one character quietly doing something nice for the other, wound care after a battle or a kiss when someone broods over something weighing on their mind, or any other version that could apply to these two tropes, I am here for it.

Hurt/Comfort - Injured A shows Up on B's doorstep Saying "I didn't know where else to go"

Maybe Jin Guangshan’s wife or Jin Zixun find a way to get Jin Guangyao kicked out again (literally). For once in his life, Jin Guangyao has no idea what he’s supposed to do. He goes to the Cloud Recesses and half-expects to be kicked down the mountains, too, but Lan Xichen is shocked and immediately takes him in, making him a Lan disciple for the time being. The Jin family is not getting rid of Jin Guangshan’s mistake and now they’ve lost control over him, too... (and also, Jin Guangyao is currently getting personally patched up and doted on by the Lan Sect Leader).

Perhaps Lan Xichen got torn up badly during a hunt, but it’s shortly after the war or another period of unrest and he doesn’t want to disquiet his disciples by looking like he’s about to fall over dead, so he sheepishly asks Jin Guangyao for help. He’s very happy to welcome Lan Xichen, of course, and make sure he gets some medicine and rest.

Hurt/Comfort - Back rubs to ease headache

Either of them! The Lan arm strength is famed, so I bet Lan Xichen gives good massages. On the other hand, he’s probably never really had one because the Lan aren’t very touchy-feely, so Jin Guangyao showing him how nice it can be could be fun.

Size Difference - taller character likes how it feels to hold smaller love interest close to them

Jin Guangyao is short and Lan Xichen is tall. This is my full prompt, lol. Okay, but yeah, I love height differences and Lan Xichen enjoying the way Jin Guangyao fits into his arms would be very cute. Jin Guangyao might sigh about probably fitting under Lan Xichen’s chin sans hat, but he secretly does like it, too.

Untrusting Character Falls Asleep on/near Character They Never Intended to Trust

I could see Jin Guangyao being someone who is just habitually very careful how and where he sleeps, especially post-assignment at the Wen, where he spent significant time as a spy, which would shape one’s world-view. Then, he just at some point randomly dozes off while close to Lan Xichen. When he wakes up silently dismayed about the fact, Lan Xichen is just all smiles as usual, probably unaware what the problem even is.

Character trying to hold it together is clearly fraying at the edges

Jin Guangyao is tearing himself apart trying to please his father while evading his wife. However, because Lan Xichen is his boyfriend/in love with him here, maybe he can make him slow down and wonder why he’s even trying so hard to please his father and whether it’s worth it? (Maybe this also could reduce Jin Guangyao’s kill-count to just his father...)

Lan Xichen is trying to keep his sworn brothers from being at each other’s throat, worried about his younger brother’s relationship with a certain demonic cultivator, rebuilding the Cloud Recesses and, for the first time, really acting as the sole Lan Sect Leader outside of war time. He knows he should be able to do it all, but it’s getting harder. Perceptive Jin Guangyao swoops in to help.

Character Expecting Hurt but Receiving Comfort

Jin Guangyao is under the microscope at his father’s court and that can wear on you. When he knocks an ink pot over Lan Xichen’s latest drawing or smashes a vase at the Cloud Recesses, or something else trivial like that, he immediately goes into trained damage control mode. Lan Xichen is weirded out and comforts him instead because, well, he seems nervous and high-strung and should have nice things!

However, Lan Xichen has never really been close to anyone who could be described as comforting, either, much as he loves his brother and uncle. When he makes a mistake (perhaps hurt himself during a hunt, or an embarrassing faux-pas at a social gathering), he sort of expects punishment to follow as a matter of course. Instead, Jin Guangyao is trying to lift his spirits.

A & B have to cancel planned date because A's ill/injured. B comforts and makes evening romantic

Jin Guangyao likes to be in control, so maybe he doesn’t really invite people around when he’s seriously ill and injured. Yet here is Lan Xichen, who doesn’t care Jin Guangyao can’t do much for him right now and makes him comfortable and turns it into a really romantic evening regardless.

Lan Xichen is likely also used to dealing with sickness/injury by himself or perhaps ignoring it as well as he can, since he’s generally a busy man. Suddenly there’s Jin Guangyao being nice and romantic and making Lan Xichen moon over him that much more.

Hot Springs

The Lan have cold springs, but I feel like Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao should also learn about the pleasure of hot springs at some point. Whether it’s an excuse for fluff or smut, shenanigangs with other characters (like your usual anime hot spring episode), or just the two of them having a chance to relax in peace for a bit, all would be great.

A is hit on by someone pushy; B steps in as A's fake significant other; fake to real pipeline

Probably most likely for a version of canon where same-sex relationships are more widely accepted or a Modern AU, but if you can somehow fit it into canon-verse, I’d love to read that, too!

Jin Guangyao is struggling to get rid off a pushy suitor, since he always has to be so polite in public settings. Lan Xichen wants to help and can only think of introducing himself as Jin Guangyao’s boyfriend. Jin Guangyao finds this proposition more intriguing than he wants to.

Jin Guangyao is watching polite and somewhat too nice Lan Xichen struggling and failing to free himself from being hit on. Eventually, he takes pity on him and goes over and smoothly claims he is his partner. Lan Xichen is very impressed (and possibly enjoys being Jin Guangyao’s date for the evening more than he should).

Perhaps whoever was hitting on the other is a fellow cultivator or business partner who’ll be around for a while, so now they have to keep it up for a bit...

Accidental Baby Acquisition

It’s unfair if Lan Wangji is the only brother who gets to drag children into the Cloud Recesses. Perhaps Lan Xichen finds an orphaned baby during a night-hunt and because it was touched by something supernatural, he decides to bring it back home to keep it under supervision; or it’s Jin Guangyao who ends up with a baby, but his would probably be a more tactical acquisition. Maybe they even found a child together and now feel similarly responsible? Alternatively, Lan Xichen also definitely seems like the type to bond with random orphans (which Jin Guangyao can’t help but find charming), so perhaps that’s how he gets a (slightly older) child. Of course, the idea of Jin Guangyao becoming a young orphan’s favourite person would also be sweet (I’m sure Lan Xichen would think so, too).

Lan Xichen has relatives who died and left behind an orphaned baby (or babies) (I assume both the Sunshot Campaign and the Nightless City Bloodbath could do the trick, although random night-hunt accidents also work). Since the kid(s) is/are close to the main family branch, he decides it makes sense to raise them himself. Jin Guangyao helps him, of course, especially if they’re together, and actually does start to care for the kid(s), too.

Maybe it’s Jin Guangyao who manages to weasel his way into becoming a caretaker of the orphaned baby (babies) of a Jin relative/an important minor sect under the Jin family, which does give him a bit more status at a time when he’s still struggling with that. Lan Xichen is touched by his choice to do this, and perhaps Jin Guangyao also genuinely likes his ward(s). Where they already together or does parenting bring the two of them closer?

Jin Ling is kind of an accidental baby acquisition for Jin Guangyao, isn’t he? Well, toddler, I think, by the time Jin Guangshan dies, but still. I’m sure Lan Xichen would be around to assist Jin Guangyao, especially if they’re in a relationship.

Character develops premature greys in their hair; is self conscious; partner(s) love it

Jin Guangyao developed his golden core late and it’s also relatively weak, at least in comparison to the other lords of his generation. I always thought it would be interesting if that meant that he doesn’t get to keep his youthful appearance to quite the same extent. Since his grey streaks are a visual reminder of his past and lacking power, Jin Guangyao is probably not feeling too great about them. Lan Xichen happens to think they look very handsome.

Aftermath of sex pollen - sex pollen leads to realization of romantic feelings

Night-hunting can be dangerous! Sometimes, you just run into creatures/plants that blast you with sex pollen. Jin Guangyao and Lan Xichen stumble into something like that and it turns out the resulting sex is actually quite great and perhaps more emotional/intense than one might have expected. Now they have to deal with that. You can also include the actual sex pollen smut here or just focus on the aftermath, both is great!

Arranged Marriage

The Wen sect gets their hands on Lan Xichen and wants to humiliate him, so they marry him to Wen Ruohan’s torture master. Did Jin Guangyao engineer this (it would be easy, and likely not wrong, to claim to Lan Xichen that he prevented a worse match afterwards)? Or is he as surprised as Lan Xichen that Wen Ruohan is making him a nice little gift?

Maybe, if they are married by the Wen, Lan Xichen manages to flee (possibly assisted by Jin Guangyao) at some point. Later, Jin Guangyao does not think Lan Xichen still wants to acknowledge the marriage, of course, even though he’d really like it. However, Lan Xichen thinks of this marriage as legitimate despite the circumstances.

Jin Guangshan actually gets his wish of the Jin becoming the new dominant sect and marries Lan Xichen to his bastard son to prevent him from forming a better alliance or just to demonstrate his power. Little did he realise that he just handed Lan Xichen a weapon of cunning mass destruction.

Mutual Pining In Arranged Marriage

Works for a lot of the Arranged Marriage plots above, but also on its own! Maybe they married later when they were both sect leaders and it was an advantageous match, maybe it was arranged by a scheming Jin Guangshan forcing the Lan sect’s hand, maybe it was so Lan Xichen could avoid being pressured into marrying Wen sect people or someone else he did not like at all; whichever it is, for some reason they’re not sure if the other is actually romantically interested in them. How do they find out their romantic feelings are mutual? Is it a sudden realisation or do they work up to it slowly? Does Jin Guangyao realise first, or is he maybe diligently working on seducing Lan Xichen, but it turns out it wasn’t even necessary?

Arranged Marriage - Contract Bought Out By Someone Else

Jin Guangshan wants to get rid of Jin Guangyao and arranges for him to get married to some random lower sect leader whom Jin Guangyao is not especially fond of. There seems to be no way out... but to Jin Guangyao’s surprise, he’s then told the marriage contract got bought out. Lan Xichen couldn’t let this happen to his friend! And he doesn’t expect anything, even being his husband now – except Jin Guangyao would really want him to. Maybe they can figure that out, too.

Lan Xichen has a marriage contract that his father set up in the past. He can’t put it off anymore, even though he was never fond of the person. Then, he is told that the contract was bought out. After all, the Jin have a lot of money... Jin Guangyao may try to seduce Lan Xichen while they’re married, but perhaps finds out that isn’t even necessary because Lan Xichen is already in love?

Alternate Universe - Modern Day

I would enjoy all sorts of Modern AUs for these guys, whether they’re still cultivators or businessmen or whatever else you would like. I’m sure their relationship still has some hiccups, but sometimes I just want nice things for them (which does not mean there can’t be lots of bloody problems in Modern AUs, too, but perhaps things don’t go as totally sideways as they do in canon).

Alternate Universe - Pacific Rim Fusion

I love Pacific Rim AUs, Fusions, whichever way you wanna take it – they can just live in the Pacific Rim world, or Pacific Rim type robots can be a thing in MDZS (possibly powered by magic, or maybe it’s Steampunk now), or it can be a mix where the MDZS world is more like the Pacific Rim world or the other way around. Is Jin Guangyao the guy in HQ who guides Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji (or another co-pilot) because he likes that position best? Or maybe he didn’t get a chance to be a pilot because his father doesn’t want it, but then there’s a crisis and Lan Xichen needs a second pilot and Jin Guangyao is available. That, or Jin Guangyao is assigned to find compatible pilots in the training room (despite wanting to be a pilot), but Lan Xichen realises Jin Guangyao wants to give fighting a go, too, and invites him, and whoops they’re compatible.

Fight scenes in big robots, intense training room sparring sessions that show compatibility, and sudden post-drift-make-outs are always appreciated!

I don’t actually need an explanation why one of them (or two, or all the cultivators) suddenly has animal ears and tails, but you can make it a plot point, too, if you want! Maybe you adopt the features of an animal that matches you when you cultivate to a certain point? Maybe it’s hereditary and the Lan all have bunny ears? Can Jin Guangyao resist petting Lan Xichen’s? Do the Jins also have animal ears and tail and if yes, which animal?

"Casual" Sex Turning Tender

I always love situations were characters had convinced themselves they were only having a bit of fun together, but then at some point sex ends up being unexpectedly intimate and/or passionate and/or sweet and they are forced to re-evaluate their relationship (whether this happens the very first time they do it, or at a later point).

I could also see this being a one-sided thing where Jin Guangyao was only going to casually seduce Lan Xichen (who Jin Guangyao wanted to be in love, and who already doesn’t see this as just casual), but then sex with him lays it bare to Jin Guangyao that he can’t emotionally separate himself like that when it comes to Lan Xichen. Lan Xichen being so tender and happy to be with Jin Guangyao that he accidentally breaks through his shell would be very nice.

"Thank Fuck You're Alive!" Emotions Turn Into Frantic Fucking

Perhaps a dangerous hunt is the reason for this, or a battle during the war. Maybe one of them was in mortal peril, or it could have been both of them at once. Whether they’re in a relationship or this is a first-time thing, both would be really hot.

Character is ashamed of their kinks

Always a great topic, too. I would love Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao exploring kinks together. Are both or is one of them fairly inexperienced? Or maybe one has a particular kink in mind and the other is happy to follow their lead. Maybe someone got a hand on a pornography book and they’re working through that, or maybe Jin Guangyao saw some things back at the brothel he wants to try out now. Lan Xichen seems more likely to be ashamed even of kinks that Jin Guangyao thinks are super tame, so that could be fun. But perhaps Jin Guangyao also has a kink in mind he didn’t dare share at first? Anything would be fun, and any kink not in my DNW list would work for this, go wild.

BDSM

I would love Jin Guangyao as a Dom, whether he’s the sweet kind who praises and pets his subs, or whether this is where he lives out some of his more violent urges that he doesn’t get to show in public. Does Lan Xichen have any idea what BDSM even is (in a non-Modern AU, of course it wouldn’t have that name, but some practices are probably known)? If not, is Jin Guangyao happy to teach him? Or perhaps Lan Xichen already knows about his own desire to submit, but was too ashamed to do anything about it so far.

Jin Guangyao being a little uncertain about some of his tendencies after inventing (and probably using) actual torture instruments when with Wen Ruohan would also be interesting. Can he separate the two? Or does he need some convincing from Lan Xichen that he’s not actually a terrible person for wanting to hurt his lovers?

Or maybe Lan Xichen is the one who asks if they could try it and Jin Guangyao only realises how fun Domming is when he tries it on sub Lan Xichen.

BDSM - Inflicting Pain Until Character Has Much-needed Emotional Breakdown

The greatest emotional outburst Lan Xichen had was when he thought Wei Wuxian was leading on his brother and even that didn’t last for long. Maybe instead of Lan Xichen relying on melancholic flute solos to deal with his own pain, Jin Guangyao can use BDSM to draw him out emotionally – whether that was actually planned or not. He’s certainly perceptive enough to know Lan Xichen might need it, so perhaps it’s targeted. However, maybe Lan Xichen is just usually a very resilient sub and when he breaks down this time, Jin Guangyao is very worried. However, it turns out to have been for the best.

Obviously not quite as intended, but could be read that way: Maybe Dom Jin Guangyao is the one who has the emotional breakdown? Like he just keeps wailing on Lan Xichen, who is pretty resilient and not opting out, and the rush of endorphins plus the awareness of the implicit trust Lan Xichen has in him makes Jin Guangyao topple and have to end the scene (added comfort afterwards would be great!).

Clothed Dom/Naked Sub

Just an inherently hot kink to me. Does the Lan forehead ribbon stay on or does Jin Guangyao take special pleasure in making sure Lan Xichen isn’t wearing that last shred of cloth anymore, either?

Alpha Jin Guangyao is annoyed. Falling for an alpha was not the plan, it just makes things more difficult, and he doesn’t have time for it... except, it turns out luck is on Jin Guangyao’s side for once because Lan Xichen is not an alpha. Does Lan Xichen actively hide he is an omega, or did Jin Guangyao simply assume and the revelation is just Lan Xichen or someone else mentioning his nature off-handedly, or Jin Guangyao putting the pieces together eventually?

Maybe Lan Xichen hides his nature from everybody to keep responsibility off (beta or alpha) Lan Wangji’s shoulders, or a few in his sect know, but the Lan elders are worried the Wen sect will demand their omega as tribute if it’s more widely known; or maybe there’s another reason. Whatever it is, Lan Xichen eventually confides in his friend. Alpha Meng Yao/Jin Guangyao is glad for his trust except this complicates things because up to now, he could pragmatically tell himself that pursuing an alpha had no value, but now Lan Xichen could be a possible marriage partner.

Lan Xichen’s nature is revealed against his will and he’s facing a lot of criticism for being the sect leader still, despite having a better suited brother (even though Lan Wangji does not want that position). Chief Cultivator Jin Guangyao steps in to support him him in public and Lan Xichen is very thankful and perhaps a bit surprised that Jin Guangyao, who gets a lot of flack himself and doesn’t need more people criticising him, is so obviously in his corner. Jin Guangyao honestly thinks Lan Xichen is more worthy than any of the people criticising him – but it doesn’t mean that the reveal wasn’t interesting in other ways to him...

A/B/O - BAMF Power Couple Alpha/Omega

Would be perfect for them! They’re both strong cultivators and even if this is an A/B/O setting were omegas are meant to stay off the battlefield if possible, I feel like Jin Guangyao would actually enjoy that Lan Xichen can more than hold his own.

A/B/O - Omegas get feisty during heat and fight off alphas to make them prove their worth

This also sounds like some sort of tradition or biological fact or ritual to me (it’s probably not something Lan Xichen decided by himself, anyway). Maybe no one so far has had any luck, even though he’s done this for a few heats? Lan Xichen is a strong guy and perhaps he wasn’t really motivated to let anyone win yet, either. However, we’re aware Jin Guangyao knows a trick to incapacitate people and is good at making them come in range. He could also use another sleight of hand, though. I bet either way Lan Xichen would be impressed...

Does Lan Xichen fight him as hard as he can out of a sense of honour until Jin Guangyao has beaten him? Or was he maybe being a little easy on him?

A/B/O - fake relationship - rules require omega to have an alpha

Omega Lan Xichen has some freedom as a sect leader, but when he’s hiding out with Meng Yao, he’s posing as just a regular omega. Meng Yao offers to play the role of his alpha so Lan Xichen won’t draw undue attention. Turns out the two very much enjoy this.

A/B/O - Claiming captured omega to save them from others

Wen Ruohan has captured Lan Xichen. Meng Yao wants to save him from worse partners, so he asks Wen Ruohan for Lan Xichen as his toy. Since it’s also a great opportunity to humiliate Lan Xichen, Wen Ruohan hands Lan Xichen to Meng Yao as a mate.

Meng Yao having to act sufficiently horrible to satisfy Wen Ruohan in public (pushing Lan Xichen around, insulting him), then apologising a hundred times in private would be interesting. However, Lan Xichen does already suspect he’s the spy, so he’s not fully confused here. Maybe they can destroy the Wen leadership from the inside together, without the need for Meng Yao to kill Nie disciples and get into another conflict with Nie Mingjue?

A/B/O - Omega doesn't realize they're in heat but alpha does

Maybe Lan Xichen has always cultivated or taken medicine to suppress his heats or he just presents very late and thought he was a beta, but then, when he’s with Jin Guangyao hiding from the Wen, at the tail end of the war, or visiting Koi Tower, the heat suddenly hits him like a brick. Jin Guangyao makes sure to drag a confused Lan Xichen out of harm’s way and perhaps also offers help when it seems Lan Xichen’s heat is very painful? Or maybe he just locks him away so he can be safe (while pining profusely), but afterwards a grateful Lan Xichen and him feel even closer...

A/B/O - Alpha With Breeding Kink Can't Stop Touching Their Partner's Belly While They're Tied

Maybe Jin Guangyao is a bit ashamed of his kink and so he doesn’t speak about it, but Lan Xichen notices this habit, anyway, and invites him to indulge (even if they’re using protection of some sort). Perhaps it also gets them seriously thinking about kids (or seriously into trying to actually make them).

Breeding Kink - Character A fucks Character B and tells them how they're going to breed them

For A/B/O or mpreg being possible for some men for any reason at all (or no reason at all), this would be great to see. Maybe Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao are kind of shocked how much they like it, but it’s really hot for both of them when Jin Guangyao talks of it. Or perhaps one of them is slightly embarrassed, but not surprised because they already knew how much they were into this kink.

Maybe mpreg is a thing, but it’s magic or cultivation or something, so having sex doesn’t really factor into it very much. That doesn’t mean that Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao can’t have fun pretending Jin Guangyao is knocking Lan Xichen up, though.

Or this could be entirely set in the canon world and they’re planning to adopt heirs or something, but now they’re pretending what it would have been like to make their children and getting really into it. (Generally, I would prefer if there was a way for them to acquire children that can be their heirs, since I feel like breeding kink would otherwise turn pretty depressing if they know they’ll eventually have to break up because they actually can’t have children together. However, if you do want to go for kind-of-depressing/melancholy breeding kink and then it turns out, whoops, magic mpreg somehow happened and now Lan Xichen is carrying a kid, that would be interesting, too! I basically just don’t want it to be a thing where the kink foreshadows an unavoidable tragic ending, lol.)

Mpreg - Male character gets pregnant by magic

The dangers of being a cultivator are manifold, and getting hit by weird magic is definitely one of them. Maybe some strange ghost or creature or plant uses Jin Guangyao’s life-force to impregnate Lan Xichen, maybe accidentally, maybe because it sees they’re in love, or actually already together. What do they do after they realise what happened? I would like it if they eventually enjoyed the idea of becoming parents – also because this child and access to mpreg magic might mean they don’t have to end their relationship to marry for heirs.

A is raped by third party and gets pregnant; B marries A to save A's virtue

For A/B/O or any other reason (some) men can get pregnant: Maybe this happens during the war or on a hunt and Jin Guangyao happens to be the one who finds/rescues Lan Xichen after the rape, so Lan Xichen later confides in him about the unborn child as well. Maybe the Wen raped Lan Xichen before he could flee, so he finds out he’s pregnant when hiding with Meng Yaou. Of course, if it happens after the war, he might also just tell him because Jin Guangyao is his friend. Maybe Lan Xichen only realises too late that he’s pregnant, or he still can’t bring himself to abort the child even if notices earlier (or maybe you wanna go with the fan theory that Lan Xichen knows he himself is not a Lan by blood because his mother killed her rapist and he is that person’s child, which might influence his decision). Either way, Jin Guangyao knows this would hurt his reputation, so he offers to marry him so Lan Xichen can save face. (Maybe there’s also something self-serving there because if he's not yet a sect leader, that marriage is a status boost, but then whoops, Jin Guangyao falls in love for real.)

Was there already a spark between them when they were married? Or does it develop during the marriage, during the pregnancy or while parenting the baby together? I would also love a fic about them pining and finally revealing their feelings to each other, their first time together, or just sweet family time as a couple.

Jin Guangyao having complicated feelings about the fact that Lan Xichen ends up loving his rapist’s bastard child, but Jin Guangshan couldn’t even spare a glance at the bastard children he willingly made (and this perhaps spurring him on to reconsider whether trying to get his father’s favour is really worth it).

Do the two ever tell anyone the truth? Maybe Lan Wangji?

Alternate Universe - BDSM

I also like BDSM universes where all people are born as either Doms or subs. Maybe it’s unusual that a sub would lead a sect, but Dom Lan Wangji doesn’t want the position, so sub Lan Xichen is the sect leader. Dom Jin Guangyao tries to tell himself he’s only fascinated by that circumstance, but maybe there’s more to it.

Maybe because he’s so nervous and frightened when hiding with Jin Guangyao, the usually stable sub Lan Xichen needs a little assistance. Dom Meng Yao is happy to help. Perhaps this ends up going farther than they both planned.

Sub Lan Xichen finds being around Dom Meng Yao/Jin Guangyao very pleasant because he doesn’t try to dominate or interrogate him. Perhaps there’s more he likes about him, too...

Sub Lan Xichen is happy to have a friend he can go to if he needs some help with his urges (maybe he doesn’t want to ask Nie Mingjue because it feels awkward with an old friend, or because he’s afraid of looking weak). Dom Jin Guangyao might have started doing this because it gives him some secret leverage over Lan Xichen, but ends up really enjoying their relationship and falling for real.

Alternate Universe - BDSM - Longterm Denial of Needs Has Bad Effects; Character Denies Self Anyway

Sub Lan Xichen doesn’t want to appear weak, so he cultivates to make sure he can resist hostile attacks and generally does not submit. However, this eventually leads to some problems (illness, qi deviation). Jin Guangyao notices and offers discreet help, non-sexual of course. Except the two of them match well and maybe it doesn’t forever stay non-sexual, nor just simple assistance.

Or maybe, though Jin Guangyao is a Dom, he tends to deny himself unless there’s a situation he can have absolute control over. Now he’s slowly starting to get stir-crazy, but he also doesn’t want to grab a random sub off the street because while he won’t be the one kneeling, he still doesn’t trust anyone enough to become as vulnerable as losing himself in play might make him. To his surprise, Lan Xichen offers himself up for non-sexual play. It works very well (though perhaps doesn’t stay forever non-sexual, nor just simple assistance).

魔道祖师 | Módào Zǔshī: Nie Mingjue/Lan Xichen

I really enjoyed the relationship between those two. Nie Mingjue does not seem to have many, or any other close friends, aside from Meng Yao, though that doesn’t last too long. What was it that made Lan Xichen different, made him fascinating to someone who, according to Jin Guangyao, is interested in nothing but decimating the Wen sect and his sabre? And how did someone as clement as Lan Xichen befriend the hot-tempered heir of the Unclean Realm? When Nie Mingjue isn’t currently trying to kill someone (usually Jin Guangyao), Lan Xichen doesn’t even seem too bothered by his temper at all, and he seems to genuinely enjoy his company as well. I would love to see anything, from childhood stories (perhaps with clandestine first kisses), to their time as young men, to fighting in the war, to a fix-it were all works out differently and Nie Mingjue doesn’t die. For smut, I prefer bottom and sub Lan Xichen. If you include mpreg, I prefer pregnant Lan Xichen. For A/B/O, I prefer omega Lan Xichen and alpha or beta Nie Mingjue.

Emotionally repressed but deeply in love character finally breaks and gives into feelings

Nie Mingjue wants to focus on his training and his work as a sect leader, yet Lan Xichen is the one person who can always successfully distract him. Eventually, he cannot deny his feelings anymore. Does he just slap him against a wall or kiss him, or does he opt for a love confession? Maybe the breaking point is also a dramatic situation, perhaps after Nie Mingjue got wounded in a hunt and decides he doesn’t want to die without having said this (after all, his death will likely be earlier than most, anyway)?

Of course, Lan Xichen shoves it all down under a smile, but he’s not exactly always open with his feelings, either. What does it look like when he breaks? Does he come running after Nie Mingjue as he’s about to leave the Cloud Recesses? Write a heartfelt letter? Just kiss him and them almost die of mortification?

Fluff and Hurt/Comfort

Either of these tropes are always awesome, no matter which direction you want to take them in. Whether it’s cuddling or one character quietly doing something nice for the other, wound care after a battle or a kiss when someone broods over something weighing on their mind, or any other version that could apply to these two tropes, I am here for it.

Hurt/Comfort - Back rubs to ease headache

They both have strong arms, so I’m sure either of them could give a very good massage to help their boyfriend relieve some tension.

A & B have to cancel planned date because A's ill/injured. B comforts and makes evening romantic

Nie Mingjue is used to dealing with pain alone and is probably already annoyed it’s so bad he has to cancel anything. Then, a worried Lan Xichen shows up anyway and dotes on him a bit and makes things romantic.

Lan Xichen is sad he had to cancel because as two sect leaders, they already don’t get to spend too much time together, but he’s also used to dealing with discomfort alone. Nie Mingjue decides to come over to check on Lan Xichen. It ends up being a romantic evening.

Character trying to hold it together is clearly fraying at the edges

After ascending to sect leader position and taking over care of his younger brother as a teen after his father’s death, Nie Mingjue is clearly struggling, though he’s trying his best. His friend (or perhaps at that point just acquaintance?) Lan Xichen realises things aren’t going well and, having a bit of experience as a pseudo-sect leader and helping with raising his brother thanks to his father’s seclusion, decides to help. Maybe some cute childhood romance (though under decidedly not-cute circumstances)?

Of course, as an adult Nie Mingjue also could happen on bad times. Maybe he just has a lot of stress rebuilding the Unclean Realm and he’s having trouble with his qi disturbances as well. Lan Xichen comes over to play Cleansing and provide other help and comfort.

Lan Xichen is worried about his younger brother’s relationship with a certain demonic cultivator, rebuilding the Cloud Recesses and, for the first time, really acting as the sole Lan Sect Leader outside of war time. He knows he should be able to do it all, but it’s getting harder. Nie Mingjue steps in to help.

Character Expecting Hurt but Receiving Comfort

Nie Mingjue seems like he’s very self-reliant and used to brute-forcing head-first if he has to. He might feel embarrassed that he needs help if he’s hurt (mentally or physically) and can’t do it alone, or made a mistake during a hunt, like others will think less of him because he’s usually such a brick wall of a person. Lan Xichen doesn’t think badly of him at all.

Same for Lan Xichen, really, he’s also used to having to be reliable. We already know he was embarrassed that he had to flee from the burning of the Cloud Recesses to save their texts and didn’t want Nie Mingjue to know. He must have told him eventually, though, so maybe he was expecting to get scolded and doesn’t? Or maybe it’s a different mistake he’s made that led to him getting hurt during a hunt or embarrassed in a social situation. Nie Mingjue doesn’t judge him.

Hot Springs

The Lan have cold springs, but I feel like Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue should also learn about the pleasure of hot springs at some point. Whether it’s an excuse for fluff or smut, shenanigangs with other characters (like your usual anime hot spring episode), or just the two of them having a chance to relax in peace for a bit, all would be great.

MDZS: Nie clan braids

Not a thing in the book, if I remember correctly, but an inspired choice from the show. I would love Lan Xichen just generally loving the look of Nie Mingjue with braids, braiding Nie Mingjue’s hair, or Lan Xichen’s braiding his own hair as a surprise if they get married/just for themselves in private/to match some Nie clan robes Lan Xichen is currently wearing (Nie Mingjue braiding Lan Xichen’s hair would also be great).

A is hit on by someone pushy; B steps in as A's fake significant other; fake to real pipeline

Probably most likely for a version of canon where same-sex relationships are more widely accepted or a Modern AU, but if you can somehow fit it into canon-verse, I’d love to read that, too!

Nie Mingjue is struggling to get rid off a pushy suitor and perhaps circumstances mean he can’t just snap at them to cut it out because getting into an argument would be messy (and potentially he’s also just not used to people being so brazen around him). Lan Xichen wants to help and can only think of introducing himself as Nie Mingjue’s boyfriend. Nie Mingjue finds this proposition more intriguing than he wants to.

Nie Mingjue is watching polite and somewhat too nice Lan Xichen struggling and failing to free himself from being hit on. Eventually, he takes pity on him and goes over and just claims him for himself. Lan Xichen is very impressed (and possibly enjoys being Nie Mingjue’s date for the evening more than he should).

Perhaps whoever was hitting on the other is a fellow cultivator or business partner who’ll be around for a while, so now they have to keep it up for a bit...

Accidental Baby Acquisition

It’s unfair if Lan Wangji is the only brother who gets to drag children into the Cloud Recesses. Perhaps Lan Xichen finds an orphaned baby during a night-hunt and because it was touched by something supernatural, he decides to bring it back home to keep it under supervision; or it’s Nie Mingjue who suddenly has a baby in the Unclean Realm for these reasons. Maybe they even found a child together and now feel similarly responsible? Alternatively, Lan Xichen also definitely seems like the type to bond with random orphans (which Nie Mingjue can’t help but find charming), so perhaps that’s how he gets a (slightly older) child. Of course, the idea of Nie Mingjue accidentally collecting a little orphan that follows him like a duckling is also very cute (I’m sure Lan Xichen would think so, too).

One of them has relatives who die and leave behind an orphaned baby (or babies) (I assume both the Sunshot Campaign and the Nightless City Bloodbath could do the trick, although random night-hunt accidents also work). Since the kid(s) is/are close to the main family branch, the one whose relatives died decide it makes sense to raise them themselves. The other helps them with this.

Both of them were thrust into a sort of parental role for their younger sibling very early, so they’re not totally new to this ballgame, and that’s probably one of the reasons they feel like they want to support the other and have something to offer. Were they crushing on each other before, or is it parenting together that reveals their feelings?

Aftermath of sex pollen - sex pollen leads to realization of romantic feelings

Night-hunting can be dangerous! Sometimes, you just run into creatures/plants that blast you with sex pollen. Nie Mingjue and Lan Xichen stumble into something like that and it turns out the resulting sex is actually quite great and perhaps more emotional/intense than one might have expected. Now they have to deal with that. You can also include the actual sex pollen smut here or just focus on the aftermath, both is great!

Arranged Marriage

Perhaps the Lan and the Nie sect wanted to bolster an alliance against the Wen sect, or the match is generally advantageous for two of the greatest sects, so that’s why their heirs were basically promised to each other when they were born, or not so long after. Would definitely be here for childhood/early teens fluff, where these two kids try to figure out how to act in front of your future spouse. However, I would also like to see the shift in their relationship as the burdens of their duties become heavier and they support each other and begin to really grow into their role as husbands/future husbands. Then, of course, it would be nice to see when it shifted from alliance to romance. Was it an early puppy crush or did they only admit it to themselves later?

Or maybe Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue arrange this themselves after the war and it really was meant to be a way to publically shield them against such things as Jin Guangshan possibly planning to make his sect fill the gap the Wen sect left, but they just like each other a little too much to keep it uncomplicated.

Mutual Pining In Arranged Marriage

Works for a lot of the Arranged Marriage plots above, but also on its own! Maybe they married so that the Lan sect could help with the qi deviations more permanently, maybe it was arranged by their elders, maybe they married so they could both/one of them could avoid being pressured into marrying Wen sect people, but for some reason they’re not sure if the other is actually romantically interested in them. How do they find out their romantic feelings are mutual? Is it a sudden realisation or do they work up to it slowly?

Character is secretly a werewolf

I love the idea that the Nie secret (or another Nie secret) could also be that they are werewolves, or another were-predator, or maybe whatever beast it is that is displayed on their emblem. How does Lan Xichen find out? Does Nie Mingjue tell him, or does he find him half-transformed at some point, or maybe Nie Mingjue transforms to save Lan Xichen during a hunt?

Alternate Universe - Modern Day

I would enjoy all sorts of Modern AUs for these guys, whether they’re still cultivators or businessmen or whatever else you would like. I’m sure their relationship still has some hiccups, but sometimes I just want nice things for them (which does not mean there can’t be lots of bloody problems in Modern AUs, too, but perhaps things don’t go as totally sideways as they do in canon).

Alternate Universe - Pacific Rim Fusion

I love Pacific Rim AUs, Fusions, whichever way you wanna take it – they can just live in the Pacific Rim world, or Pacific Rim type robots can be a thing in MDZS (possibly powered by magic, or maybe it’s Steampunk now), or it can be a mix where the MDZS world is more like the Pacific Rim world or the other way around. Maybe Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue happen to spar during a session and it turns out they’re very, very compatible? Or they drift with others (with their respective brothers, maybe), but in an emergency they have to get into a Jaeger together and it ends up working.

Fight scenes in big robots, intense training room sparring sessions that show compatibility, and sudden post-drift-make-outs are always appreciated!

I don’t actually need an explanation why one of them (or two, or all the cultivators) suddenly has animal ears and tails, but you can make it a plot point, too, if you want! Maybe you adopt the features of an animal that matches you when you cultivate to a certain point? Maybe it’s hereditary and the Lan all have bunny ears? Can Nie Mingjue resist petting Lan Xichen’s? Do the Nies also have animal ears and tail and if yes, which animal?

Lan Xichen may not have done much experimenting as a teenager because of the Lan rules and Nie Mingjue was also always very focused on his training. I love the idea that when Lan Xichen is eighteen, nineteen, or maybe even later, during/after the war, Nie Mingjue and Lan Xichen decide they’re going to experiment a little bit (probably while pining hard). If they don’t do “real” (penetrative) sex, it’s doesn’t count, right? Right?

“Just the tip” might be the compromise they come up with when they really can’t keep themselves from wanting to try penetrative sex anymore. Turns out that doesn’t really work because they get carried away. Maybe afterwards they have to consider if it was ever a very good excuse to begin with, even if they had stuck to it...

"Casual" Sex Turning Tender

I always love situations were characters had convinced themselves they were only having a bit of fun together, but then at some point sex ends up being unexpectedly intimate and/or passionate and/or sweet and they are forced to re-evaluate their relationship (whether this happens the very first time they do it, or at a later point).

"Thank Fuck You're Alive!" Emotions Turn Into Frantic Fucking

Perhaps a dangerous hunt is the reason for this, or a battle during the war. Maybe one of them was in mortal peril, or it could have been both of them at once. Whether they’re in a relationship or this is a first-time thing, both would be really hot.

Or maybe Nie Mingjue is pushed to the brink of qi deviation at some point, but Lan Xichen just manages to play him down from the very edge and afterwards, they cannot help but tear each other’s clothes off.

BDSM

Is Nie Mingjue embarrassed that he wants to Dom? Maybe he’s worried it means that Baxia’s spirit is taking over his sexuality now, too. However, Lan Xichen says they should try it out and Nie Mingjue realises it’s not just him wanting to be violent.

Or maybe Lan Xichen is embarrassed of his desire to submit in bed. Nie Mingjue thinks that’s stupid (as he says, Lan Xichen should not be worried about losing face in front of him – and besides, Lan Xichen submitting sounds hot to him) and shows him him it’s not a bad thing.

They’re both very tall, muscular, strong men, so the two can go at each other during BDSM play in a way they might not be able to with other partners. I would love them see have fun with that.

BDSM - Inflicting Pain Until Character Has Much-needed Emotional Breakdown

The greatest emotional outburst Lan Xichen had was when he thought Wei Wuxian was leading on his brother and even that didn’t last for long. Maybe instead of Lan Xichen relying on melancholic flute solos to deal with his own pain, Nie Mingjue can use BDSM to draw him out emotionally – whether that was actually planned or not. He has known Lan Xichen long enough to know Lan Xichen might need it, so perhaps it’s targeted. However, maybe Lan Xichen is just usually a very resilient sub and when he breaks down this time, Nie Mingjue is very worried. However, it turns out to have been for the best.

Obviously not quite as intended, but could be read that way: Maybe Dom Nie Mingjue is the one who has the emotional breakdown? Like he just keeps wailing on Lan Xichen, who is pretty resilient and not opting out, and the rush of endorphins plus the awareness of the implicit trust Lan Xichen has in him makes Nie Mingjue topple and have to end the scene because it all gets twisted up with knowing his family’s tendency to die while going feral, the awareness of the violent influence of Baxia, and so on (added comfort afterwards would be great!).

Clothed Dom/Naked Sub

Just an inherently hot kink to me. Does the Lan forehead ribbon stay on or does Nie Mingjue take special pleasure in making sure Lan Xichen isn’t wearing that last shred of cloth anymore, either?

Always a great topic, too. I would love Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue exploring kinks together. Are both or is one of them fairly inexperienced? Or maybe one has a particular kink in mind and the other is happy to follow their lead. Maybe someone got their hand on a pornography book (Nie Huaisang left it lying around) and they’re working through that. I could see either of them being embarrassed, and the other being very happy to help. Anything would be fun, and any kink not in my DNW list would work for this, go wild.

Alpha Nie Mingjue never really wanted an omega. The kind he is presented as potential mates are slight and meek and not supposed to learn how to fight and he has never found much to talk about with any of them. Now, an alpha like Lan Xichen, if that were an option... except, it turns out, Lan Xichen is not an alpha. Does Lan Xichen actively hide he is an omega, or did Nie Mingjue simply assume and the revelation is just Lan Xichen or someone else mentioning his nature off-handedly? (This would probably be the case if Lan Xichen had only presented fairly recently, as I assume the news would otherwise have made it through the gossipy cultivation world already.)

Maybe Lan Xichen hides his nature from everybody to keep responsibility off (beta or alpha) Lan Wangji’s shoulders, or a few in his sect know, but the Lan elders are worried the Wen sect will demand their omega as tribute if it’s more widely known; or maybe there’s another reason. Whatever it is, Lan Xichen eventually confides in his old friend. Alpha Nie Mingjue is glad for his trust except now his crush is worse; after all, he could never have married another alpha, since he needs heirs, but now...

Lan Xichen’s nature is revealed against his will and he’s facing a lot of criticism for being the sect leader still, despite having a better suited brother (even though Lan Wangji does not want that position). Nie Mingjue angrily supports him in public and Lan Xichen is very thankful and perhaps a bit surprised that Nie Mingjue, despite coming from a rather strict, militant sect, is so clearly in his corner. Nie Mingjue just respects competence – but it doesn’t mean that the reveal wasn’t interesting in other ways to him...

A/B/O - BAMF Power Couple Alpha/Omega

Would be perfect for them! They’re both strong cultivators and even if this is an A/B/O setting were omegas are meant to stay off the battlefield if possible, I feel like Nie Mingjue would actually enjoy that Lan Xichen can more than hold his own.

This also sounds like some sort of tradition or a biological thing or a ritual to me (it’s probably not something Lan Xichen decided by himself, anyway). Maybe Lan Xichen has always cultivated or taken medicine to suppress his heats or he just presents very late and thought he was a beta, but then, when he’s with Nie Mingjue during the war or visiting Unclean Realm, the heat suddenly hits him like a brick. Nie Mingjue makes sure to drag a confused Lan Xichen out of harm’s way and perhaps also offers help when it seems Lan Xichen’s heat is very painful? Or maybe he just locks him away so he can be safe (while pining profusely), but afterwards a grateful Lan Xichen and him feel even closer...

A/B/O - Alpha With Breeding Kink Can't Stop Touching Their Partner's Belly While They're Tied

Maybe Nie Mingjue is a bit ashamed of his kink and so he doesn’t speak about it, but Lan Xichen notices this habit, anyway, and invites him to indulge (even if they’re using protection of some sort). Perhaps it also gets them seriously thinking about kids (or seriously into trying to actually make them).

For A/B/O or mpreg being possible for some men for any reason at all (or no reason at all), this would be great to see. Maybe Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue are kind of shocked how much they like it, but it’s really hot for both of them when Nie Mingjue talks of it. Or perhaps one of them is slightly embarrassed, but not surprised because they already knew how much they were into this kink.

Maybe mpreg is a thing, but it’s magic or cultivation or something, so having sex doesn’t really factor into it very much. That doesn’t mean that Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue can’t have fun pretending Nie Mingjue is knocking Lan Xichen up, though.

Or this could be entirely set in the canon world and they’re planning to adopt heirs or something, but now they’re pretending what it would have been like to make their children and getting really into it. (Generally, I would prefer if there was a way for them to acquire children that can be their heirs, since I feel like breeding kink would otherwise turn pretty depressing if they know they’ll eventually have to break up because they actually can’t have children together. However, if you do want to go for kind-of-depressing/melancholy breeding kink and then it turns out, whoops, magic mpreg somehow happened and now Lan Xichen is carrying a kid, that would be interesting, too! I basically just don’t want it to be a thing where the kink foreshadows an unavoidable tragic ending, lol.)

The dangers of being a cultivator are manifold, and getting hit by weird magic is definitely one of them. Maybe some strange ghost or creature or plant uses Nie Mingjue’s life-force to impregnate Lan Xichen, maybe accidentally, maybe because it sees they’re in love, or actually already together. What do they do after they realise what happened? I would like it if they eventually enjoyed the idea of becoming parents – also because this child and access to mpreg magic might mean they don’t have to end their relationship to marry for heirs.

A is raped by third party and gets pregnant; B marries A to save A's virtue

For A/B/O or any other reason (some) men can get pregnant: Maybe this happens during the war or on a hunt and Nie Mingjue happens to be the one who finds/rescues Lan Xichen after the rape, so Lan Xichen later confides in him about the unborn child as well. Of course, Lan Xichen might also just tell Nie Mingjue because Nie Mingjue is his friend. Maybe Lan Xichen only realises too late that he’s pregnant, or he still can’t bring himself to abort the child even if notices earlier (or maybe you wanna go with the fan theory that Lan Xichen knows he himself is not a Lan by blood because his mother killed her rapist and he is that person’s child, which might influence his decision). Either way, Nie Mingjue knows this would hurt his reputation, so he offers to marry him so Lan Xichen can save face.

Was there already a spark between them when they were married? Or does it develop during the marriage, during the pregnancy or while parenting the baby together? I would also love a fic about them pining and finally revealing their feelings to each other, their first time together, or just sweet family time as a couple.

Do the two ever tell anyone the truth? Maybe their brothers?

Alternate Universe - BDSM

I also like BDSM universes where all people are born as either Doms or subs. Maybe it’s unusual that a sub would lead a sect, but Dom Lan Wangji doesn’t want the position, so sub Lan Xichen is the sect leader. Dom Nie Mingjue tries to tell himself he’s only fascinated by that strange circumstance, but maybe there’s more to it.

Sub Lan Xichen finds being around Dom Nie Mingjue very pleasant because he doesn’t try to dominate or interrogate him – Nie Mingjue doesn’t like doing that to random subs who didn’t ask, anyway, and he respects Lan Xichen as an old friend. Lan Xichen wonders if Nie Mingjue could still see something in him as a sub, though, because he may be dreaming to have some consensual play (and more) with him.

Dom Nie Mingjue is extremely popular with subs, but he only wants the one sub who doesn’t really seem to need a permanent Dom in the first place, Lan Xichen. Meanwhile, sub Lan Xichen isn’t really a favourite with many Doms because he has a lot of authority and wields it not unhappily, so he doubts he has a chance with someone as sought-after as Nie Mingjue. How do they get together?

Dom Nie Mingjue and sub Lan Xichen have always helped with each other’s urges since they were adults, but always in a non-sexual way. Turns out their feelings towards each other shift and that doesn’t stay so innocent.

Alternate Universe - BDSM - Longterm Denial of Needs Has Bad Effects; Character Denies Self Anyway

Sub Lan Xichen doesn’t want to appear weak, so he cultivates to make sure he can resist hostile attacks and generally does not submit. However, this eventually leads to some problems (illness, qi deviation). Nie Mingjue realises this and offers his help, non-sexual of course – after all, Lan Xichen also helps him with the sabre spirit problem. Except the two of them match well and maybe it doesn’t forever stay non-sexual, nor just simple assistance.

Or maybe, though Nie Mingjue is a Dom, he tends to deny himself, especially in the busier times of his life (like during the war), or when he’s worried that Baxia is making his temper flare. Now he’s slowly starting to get stir-crazy, but he also doesn’t want to grab a random sub off the street because they might not know how to handle him. To his surprise, Lan Xichen offers himself up for non-sexual play, since he already helps calm Nie Mingjue in other ways, anyway. It works surprisingly well (though perhaps doesn’t stay forever non-sexual, nor just simple assistance).

陈情令 | The Untamed: Jiang Cheng/Lan Xichen

This is a pairing I’ve really come to enjoy despite the fact that they don’t have that much contact in canon – at least not that we see because I assume as leaders of major sects, and with Lan Xichen being so close to Jin Ling’s other guardian, they have actually met quite a bit. We know from Lan Xichen’s friendship with Nie Mingjue that he can handle tempestuous temperaments. Also, I feel like Lan Xichen ticks, though not at all, quite a few boxes on Jiang Cheng’s romance checklist, so that’s good! This could be set right after the war (it would probably be difficult after Wei Wuxian’s death due to Lan Xichen’s loyalty to his brother, who does not like Jiang Cheng past the Nightless City siege, but perhaps Lan Xichen’s and Jiang Cheng’s relationship somehow ends up preventing the whole Wei Wuxian thing from going really south in the first place, or the Wen fled and that entire plot disappears entirely); or it could be post-canon, when they both have to work through their pain. Either way would be interesting! Post-canon, Jiang Cheng is probably not super welcome in the Cloud Recesses courtesy of Lan Wangji as long as he and Wei Wuxian haven’t had some sort of reconciliation, but does Lan Xichen end up facilitating it, or do the two of them end up meeting more once Jiang Cheng drops by sometimes to see Wei Wuxian after having a heart-to-heart with him? For smut, I prefer bottom and sub Lan Xichen. If you include mpreg, I prefer pregnant Lan Xichen. For A/B/O, I prefer omega Lan Xichen and alpha or beta Jiang Cheng.

Emotionally repressed but deeply in love character finally breaks and gives into feelings

If this is Jiang Cheng, I imagine ‘breaking’ involves either pushing Lan Xichen against a wall for a kiss or shouting a love declaration with unwarranted anger or something along those lines. So, not completely getting over that emotional repression, but I think Lan Xichen would probably know him well enough after all these years to realise it’s well-meant. (Flustered Jiang Cheng getting a hug/kiss from a happy Lan Xichen afterwards would be very cute, too.)

Of course, Lan Xichen shoves it all down under a smile, but he’s not exactly always open with his feelings, either. What does it look like when he breaks? Does he come running after Jiang Cheng as he’s about to leave the Cloud Recesses? Write a heartfelt letter? Just kiss him and them almost die of mortification?

Getting Together - Recovering from Shared Trauma Leads to Feelings and Codependency

This could definitely be after the war. All of these guys went through quite a lot and maybe Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng find unlikely support in each other, both being young sect leaders. Perhaps Lan Xichen was just going to help Jiang Cheng out a bit with his sect in the beginning, too, but then... some codependency might not be the best trama response, but honestly, in a world where you’re not getting your PTSD treated any other way, it’s also not the worst. (Plus, maybe their relationship somehow keeps the WWX thing from going so wrong.)

Also, while they were traumatised by different things in the Guanyin Temple and the lead-up to it, they sure both left unhappy! Maybe they can help each other up. If they end up clinging to each other a little, I’m sure it could be forgiven.

Fluff and Hurt/Comfort

Either of these tropes are always awesome, no matter which direction you want to take them in. Whether it’s cuddling or one character quietly doing something nice for the other, wound care after a battle or a kiss when someone broods over something weighing on their mind, or any other version that could apply to these two tropes, I am here for it.

Jiang Cheng doesn’t seem like someone who accepts or dispenses a lot of fluff and comfort – at least not in the usual way. Lan Xichen relentlessly doting on him, anyway, or Jiang Cheng being caustic while still actually being nice to a hurt Lan Xichen wold be cute.

A & B have to cancel planned date because A's ill/injured. B comforts and makes evening romantic

Jiang Cheng is ill/injured and annoyed about it because Lan Xichen and him already don’t get to spend much time together. He’s probably also not someone who invites a lot of comforting, just because of his personality, especially post-canon when he’s grown harsher over the years. No matter, Lan Xichen isn’t daunted and Jiang Cheng is going to get spoiled.

Lan Xichen is the one who is ill/injured. Jiang Cheng won’t be stopped from walking straight into his room – just to make sure he’s alright, of course (but maybe he coincidentally brought a small gift/something else romantic, too).

Character trying to hold it together is clearly fraying at the edges

Lan Xichen comes out of seclusion because the sect needs him to (or he just never enters it in this version of canon). He’s not any better than he was after Guanyin Temple, but since his tragedy all feels like his fault anyway, heaping more work on his uncle won’t help, either. However, he keeps running into Jiang Cheng, who is not shy about his real opinion and sees Lan Xichen is close to collapsing. Somehow, that bluntness does help, though, because it seems like someone cares...

Jiang Cheng now knows he has Wei Wuxian’s original core stuck inside of him, which forces him to re-evaluate the last 15+ years of his life, not to mention the damage to his always somewhat frail self-confidence. To his surprise, Lan Xichen is actually sympathetic.

Honestly, this could be happening simultaneously. In trying to power through their individual damages, they realise the other needs support and end up helping each other.

For a pre-time skip version: Jiang Cheng insists that he doesn’t want his brother back, but clearly does. Lan Wangji is quietly pining at the Yiling Patriarch. Maybe having both of these guys close actually changes Lan Xichen’s course of action and thus the trajectory of the story (hopefully for something happier)?

Character Expecting Hurt but Receiving Comfort

After the scene he made in the Guanyin Temple, Jiang Cheng expects nothing but polite contempt from Lan Xichen (which definitely would hurt because he quite likes him). To his surprise, Lan Xichen acts quite understanding towards him.

Lan Xichen blames himself for everything that happened in the last fifteen years, more or less, and figures there’s no one who knows the truth who would do otherwise. To his surprise, the usually harsh Jiang Cheng is the one who drags him out of seclusion/welcomes him when he leaves/is often around (if Lan Xichen never went into seclusion) and he doesn’t seem to look down on Lan Xichen at all.

Graphic Depictions of Hugging

I just really enjoy hugging. Whether it’s big bear hugs, crushing hugs, awkwardly stiff but heartfelt hugs, one-armed hugs that pull the person against the other’s side, hugs to protect from the cold, hugs combined with forehead kisses, hugging in bed or during sex, or all others, I love it.

Hot Springs

The Lan have cold springs, but I feel like Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng should also learn about the pleasure of hot springs at some point. Whether it’s an excuse for fluff or smut, shenanigangs with other characters (like your usual anime hot spring episode), or just the two of them having a chance to relax in peace for a bit, all would be great.

Rescue - Captive character surprised to learn their rescuer is motivated by genuine affection

Maybe this is during a war or a hunt. Obviously, both of them would come save the other because saving people is kind of their job, but when the rescuer shows up, it sure seems like they’re actually very concerned on a personal level.

A is hit on by someone pushy; B steps in as A's fake significant other; fake to real pipeline

Probably most likely for a version of canon where same-sex relationships are more widely accepted or a Modern AU, but if you can somehow fit it into canon-verse, I’d love to read that, too!

Jiang Cheng is struggling to get rid off a pushy suitor and perhaps circumstances mean he can’t just use Zidian to swipe them away since getting into a fight would be messy. Lan Xichen wants to help and can only think of introducing himself as Jiang Cheng’s boyfriend. Jiang Cheng finds this proposition more intriguing than he wants to.

Jiang Cheng is watching polite and somewhat too nice Lan Xichen struggling and failing to free himself from being hit on. Eventually, he takes pity on him and goes over and just claims him for himself. Lan Xichen is very impressed (and possibly enjoys being Jiang Cheng’s date for the evening more than he should).

Perhaps whoever was hitting on the other is a fellow cultivator or business partner who’ll be around for a while, so now they have to keep it up for a bit...

Accidental Baby Acquisition

Orphans from the war against the Wen, lonely babies left over in ghostly catastrophes... Jiang Cheng has already accidentally acquired one baby in canon, so it could easily happen again. Somehow, Lan Xichen and him are both involved. Are they already together or do they get closer while co-parenting?

Speaking of that, Jin Ling is kind of an accidental baby acquisition for Jiang Cheng. Well, toddler, I think, by the time Jin Guangshan dies, but still. I’m sure Lan Xichen would be around to assist Jiang Cheng, especially if they’re in a relationship.

Aftermath of sex pollen - sex pollen leads to realization of romantic feelings

You run into so much weird stuff while being a cultivator! Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen stumble over sex pollen, but the strangely intense, passionate sex they have can’t be fully explained just by that. You can also include the actual sex pollen smut here or just focus on the aftermath, both is great!

Our Courtship Was So Low-key You Couldn't Even Tell It Was Happening

The Yiling Patriarch situation suddenly stops being everyone’s focus when Jiang Cheng announces his engagement to Lan Xichen. Through a series of related coincidences, the story thus takes a less terrible turn for everybody.

Post-canon, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian think their brothers are meeting because of sect business. Eventually, they announce their engagement / Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian catch them making out in the hanzi.

A modern AU where things are not as dire but Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are totally captured in their epic romance and don’t notice their brothers chatting animatedly whenever they meet would also be funny.

This could perhaps be even outsider POV from Wei Wuxian or Lan Wangji.

Arranged Marriage

Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen were promised to each other as kids, but only met in the Cloud Recesses when Jiang Cheng visited and weren’t really encouraged to hang out there much, as the Lan don’t consider it proper. Then, the war happens. Afterwards, they are leading their respective sects and have to reassess if they still want to keep up that betrothal... I would like if if they decided for it, of course.

However, if you make Jiang Cheng eighteen at the Cloud Recesses (I don’t think the series ever specifies), maybe they are actually encouraged to get to know each other, but both kind of nervous about it, or they’re not encouraged, but curiosity takes over, anyway. Perhaps Jiang Cheng can get his summer camp romance after all! Wei Wuxian being a gremlin and messing around in his brother’s love life (he probably does want to genuinely help – maybe he even does) would also be fun.

Maybe they were married early on, when too young to consummate the marriage, so the decision is taken from them, but they never really got to spend much time together. When they finally have some time to get to know each other during/after the war, they realise they actually like each other.

The two arrange their own marriage to stand as a more united front before the Wen (the Lan and Nie are already kind of connected through the friendship of their leaders, but Lotus Pier stands a little alone). It was a political decision, but then they actually get to know each other during or after the war.

Modern AU Arranged Marriage would also be interesting! In that scenario, they probably just have the other suggested to them and have the right to refuse each other (even if their traditional families are pressuring them for the lucrative connection). Maybe one of them was convinced they’d reject the other right away at the first meeting, but then they accidentally hit it off.

Mutual Pining In Arranged Marriage

Would go really well with some of the prompts above! Generally, I really enjoy this in any sort of arranged marriage scenario, though, so run wild! I would love it if they did find out they were both pining at some point, though.

Alternate Universe - Modern Day

I would enjoy all sorts of Modern AUs for these guys, whether they’re still cultivators or businessmen or whatever else you would like. I’m sure their relationship still has some hiccups, but sometimes I just want nice things for them (which does not mean there can’t be lots of bloody problems in Modern AUs, too, but perhaps things don’t go as totally sideways as they do in canon).

Alternate Universe - Pacific Rim Fusion

I love Pacific Rim AUs, Fusions, whichever way you wanna take it – they can just live in the Pacific Rim world, or Pacific Rim type robots can be a thing in Untamed (possibly powered by magic, or maybe it’s Steampunk now), or it can be a mix where the Untamed world is more like the Pacific Rim world or the other way around. Perhaps they used to drift with their brothers, but Wangxian ditched them for each other and now they’re both short a co-pilot? May as well try to drift with each other... or maybe they only find out about their compatibility in a crisis situation when no regular pilot team is available? (Maybe they even go to save their brothers.)

Fight scenes in big robots, intense training room sparring sessions that show compatibility, and sudden post-drift-make-outs are always appreciated!

I don’t actually need an explanation why one of them (or two, or all the cultivators) suddenly has animal ears and tails, but you can make it a plot point, too, if you want! Maybe you adopt the features of an animal that matches you when you cultivate to a certain point? Maybe it’s hereditary and the Lan all have bunny ears? Can Jiang Cheng resist petting Lan Xichen’s? Do the Jiangs also have animal ears and tail and if yes, which animal?

"Thank Fuck You're Alive!" Emotions Turn Into Frantic Fucking

Perhaps a dangerous hunt is the reason for this, or a battle during the war. Maybe one of them was in mortal peril, or it could have been both of them at once. Whether they’re in a relationship or this is a first-time thing, both would be really hot.

"Casual" Sex Turning Tender

I always love situations were characters had convinced themselves they were only having a bit of fun together, but then at some point sex ends up being unexpectedly intimate and/or passionate and/or sweet and they are forced to re-evaluate their relationship (whether this happens the very first time they do it, or at a later point).

Character A Embarrassed By Coming Too Quickly But Character B Doesn't Mind

Lan Xichen is trying to be self-possessed as the Lan Sect asks it of his members, but Jiang Cheng’s effect on him is just too strong. While Lan Xichen is embarrassed about his lack of control, Jiang Cheng is delighted to be able to push him to this point.

I could see Jiang Cheng being very embarrassed and annoyed if it happened to himself, but Lan Xichen assures him he’s absolutely fine with Jiang Cheng wanting him that much.

Maybe one of them has a more permanent problem with this and the other is happy to help them train their stamina (or just make them come several times in a row).

Character is ashamed of their kinks

Always a great topic, too. I would love Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng exploring kinks together. Are both or is one of them fairly inexperienced? Or maybe one has a particular kink in mind and the other is happy to follow their lead. Maybe someone got their hand on a pornography book and they’re working through that. I could see either of them being embarrassed, but I’m sure the other would happily encourage them. Anything would be fun, and any kink not in my DNW list would work for this, go wild.

Praise Kink

Jiang Cheng? Jiang Cheng, haha. I feel like this is something that could so easily apply to him, though he’s very likely not admitting it to himself. However, when Lan Xichen praises him, it really goes through him from head to toe.

Or maybe Jiang Cheng already knows, to his chagrin, that if a handsome, kind man who he likes praises him, that’s going to hit bullseye. He brushes Lan Xichen off brusquely whenever he does it, but Lan Xichen is the sort of person who just naturally ends up praising people, so Jiang Cheng eventually cannot help but lean into it.

However, I could also see this with Lan Xichen. Despite the fact that he’s highly regarded, real personal praise doesn’t really seem the way in the Lan sect, especially not if you’re raised by Lan Qiren, lol. So when Jiang Cheng praises him for something and it goes straight through him, Lan Xichen is surprised, probably embarrassed, and desperate for more.

BDSM

Perhaps Jiang Cheng wants to be dominant, but because of his whole inferiority complex cluster of issues, he feels like he might get laughed at by his partner – especially by Lan Xichen, who is probably his equal in strength, if not more, so why would he kneel before him? Lan Xichen finds out somehow and he’s not at all bothered by the idea of being Jiang Cheng’s submissive (in fact, he rather likes it).

Or Lan Xichen likes the idea of submitting, but feels like as a sect leader he should not have such thoughts. Jiang Cheng coaxes it out of him and indulges him.

However they get there, inappropriate use Zidian would also be a great idea here.

BDSM - Inflicting Pain Until Character Has Much-needed Emotional Breakdown

The greatest emotional outburst Lan Xichen ever had was when he slapped Jin Guangyao and he seemed to regret even that immediately after. Maybe instead of Lan Xichen relying on melancholic flute solos to deal with his own pain, Jiang Cheng can use BDSM to draw him out emotionally – whether that was actually planned or not. Perhaps Lan Xichen is just usually a very resilient sub and when he breaks down this time, Jiang Cheng is very worried. However, it turns out to have been for the best.

Obviously not quite as intended, but could be read that way: Maybe Dom Jiang Cheng is the one who has the emotional breakdown? Like he just keeps wailing on Lan Xichen, who is pretty resilient and not opting out, and the rush of endorphins plus the awareness of the implicit trust Lan Xichen has in him makes Jiang Cheng topple and have to end the scene (added comfort afterwards would be great!).

Clothed Dom/Naked Sub

Just an inherently hot kink to me. Does the Lan forehead ribbon stay on or does Jiang Cheng take special pleasure in making sure Lan Xichen isn’t wearing that last shred of cloth anymore, either?

Alpha Jiang Cheng is annoyed. Of course he had to fall for an alpha, someone he can’t marry because he needs heirs... except, it turns out luck is on Jiang Cheng’s side for once because Lan Xichen is not an alpha. Does Lan Xichen actively hide he is an omega, or did Jiang Cheng simply assume and the revelation is just Lan Xichen or someone else mentioning his nature off-handedly? (This would probably be the case if Lan Xichen had only presented fairly recently, as I assume the news would otherwise have made it through the gossipy cultivation world already.)

Maybe Lan Xichen hides his nature from everybody to keep responsibility off (beta or alpha) Lan Wangji’s shoulders, or a few in his sect know, but the Lan elders are worried the Wen sect will demand their omega as tribute if it’s more widely known; or maybe there’s another reason. Whatever it is, Lan Xichen eventually confides in Jiang Cheng, maybe when it looks like they’ll get captured during the war. Alpha Jiang Cheng is glad for his trust except now his crush is less hopeless, which is worse somehow.

Lan Xichen’s nature is revealed against his will and he’s facing a lot of criticism for being the sect leader still, despite having a better suited brother (even though Lan Wangji does not want that position). Jiang Cheng steps in to support him him in public and Lan Xichen is very thankful and perhaps a bit surprised. Jiang Cheng honestly thinks Lan Xichen is more worthy than any of the people criticising him – but it doesn’t mean that the reveal wasn’t interesting to him in other ways...

A/B/O - Omegas get feisty during heat and fight off alphas to make them prove their worth

This also sounds like some sort of tradition or biological fact or ritual to me (it’s probably not something Lan Xichen decided by himself, anyway). Maybe no one so far has had any luck, even though he’s done this for a few heats? Lan Xichen is a strong guy and perhaps he wasn’t really motivated to let anyone win yet, either. However, Jiang Cheng might be strong enough to beat him if he decides to take part...

Does Lan Xichen fight him as hard as he can out of a sense of honour until Jiang Cheng has beaten him? Or was he maybe a little easy on him?

Would be perfect for them! They’re both strong cultivators and even if this is an A/B/O setting were omegas are meant to stay off the battlefield if possible, I feel like Jiang Cheng would actually enjoy that Lan Xichen can more than hold his own.

A/B/O - Alpha With Breeding Kink Can't Stop Touching Their Partner's Belly While They're Tied

Maybe Jiang Cheng is a bit ashamed of his kink and so he doesn’t speak about it, but Lan Xichen notices this habit, anyway, and invites him to indulge (even if they’re using protection of some sort). Perhaps it also gets them seriously thinking about kids (or seriously into trying to actually make them).

Breeding Kink - Character A fucks Character B and tells them how they're going to breed them

For A/B/O or mpreg being possible for some men for any reason at all (or no reason at all), this would be great to see. Maybe Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng are kind of shocked how much they like it, but it’s really hot for both of them when Jiang Cheng talks of it. Or perhaps one of them is slightly embarrassed, but not surprised because they already knew how much they were into this kink.

Maybe mpreg is a thing, but it’s magic or cultivation or something, so having sex doesn’t really factor into it very much. That doesn’t mean that Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng can’t have fun pretending Jiang Cheng is knocking Lan Xichen up, though.

Or this could be entirely set in the canon world and they’re planning to adopt heirs or something, but now they’re pretending what it would have been like to make their children and getting really into it. (Generally, I would prefer if there was a way for them to acquire children that can be their heirs, since I feel like breeding kink would otherwise turn pretty depressing if they know they’ll eventually have to break up because they actually can’t have children together. However, if you do want to go for kind-of-depressing/melancholy breeding kink and then it turns out, whoops, magic mpreg somehow happened and now Lan Xichen is carrying a kid, that would be interesting, too! I basically just don’t want it to be a thing where the kink foreshadows an unavoidable tragic ending, lol.)

Mpreg - Male character gets pregnant by magic

The dangers of being a cultivator are manifold, and getting hit by weird magic is definitely one of them. Maybe some strange ghost or creature or plant uses Jiang Cheng’s life-force to impregnate Lan Xichen, maybe accidentally, maybe because it sees they’re in love, or actually already together. What do they do after they realise what happened? I would like it if they eventually enjoyed the idea of becoming parents – also because this child and access to mpreg magic might mean they don’t have to end their relationship to marry for heirs.

If you wanna get into more complicated family fic, the magic thing could have also used strength from Jiang Cheng’s golden core – which would mean Lan Xichen is currently carrying original Wei Wuxian’s child. However, he’s in a relationship with Jiang Cheng while Wei Wuxian is, of course, with Lan Wangji. Maybe the child ends up having four parents?

A is raped by third party and gets pregnant; B marries A to save A's virtue

For A/B/O or any other reason (some) men can get pregnant: Maybe this happens during the war or on a hunt and Jiang Cheng happens to be the one who finds/rescues Lan Xichen after the rape, so Lan Xichen later confides in him about the unborn child as well. Maybe Lan Xichen only realises too late that he’s pregnant, or he still can’t bring himself to abort the child even if notices earlier (or maybe you wanna go with the fan theory that Lan Xichen knows he himself is not a Lan by blood because his mother killed her rapist and he is that person’s child, which might influence his decision). Either way, Jiang Cheng likes Lan Xichen and knows this would hurt his reputation, so he offers to marry him so Lan Xichen can save face.

Perhaps it’s also post-canon. Lan Xichen is weakened after seclusion and attacked on a hunt. Because he can’t bear to disturb his brother’s happiness after all these years, he wrestles with the repercussions on his own. Somehow, Jiang Cheng ends up finding out, perhaps investigating the incident for other reasons or because he realises Lan Xichen is pregnant and acting very odd. When he finds out the reason, Jiang Cheng offers a marriage to Lan Xichen.

Was there already a spark between them when they were married? Or does it develop during the marriage, during the pregnancy or while parenting the baby together? I would also love a fic about them pining and finally revealing their feelings to each other, their first time together, or just sweet family time as a couple.

Do the two ever tell anyone about what really happened? Maybe their brothers/siblings?

Alternate Universe - BDSM

I also like BDSM universes where all people are born as either Doms or subs. Maybe it’s unusual that a sub would lead a sect, but Dom Lan Wangji doesn’t want the position, so sub Lan Xichen is the sect leader. Dom Jiang Cheng tries to tell himself he’s only fascinated by that circumstance, but maybe there’s more to it.

Maybe Dom Jiang Cheng is used to unusual subs due to growing up with sub Wei Wuxian, who isn’t too meek himself, and sub Lan Xichen finds being around him very pleasant because he doesn’t try to dominate or interrogate him. Perhaps there’s more he likes about Jiang Cheng, too...

If Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian can officially be paired off as Dom and sub (or the other way around), maybe sub Lan Xichen and Dom Jiang Cheng end up spending more time around each other because they’re now brothers-in-law. This turns out to have unforeseen consequences.

Alternate Universe - BDSM - Longterm Denial of Needs Has Bad Effects; Character Denies Self Anyway

Sub Lan Xichen doesn’t want to appear weak, so he cultivates to make sure he can resist hostile attacks and generally does not submit. However, this eventually leads to some problems (illness, qi deviation). Jiang Cheng hears about it from Wei Wuxian or runs into Lan Xichen having trouble. He offers his discreet help, non-sexual of course. Except the two of them match well and maybe it doesn’t forever stay non-sexual, nor just simple assistance.

Or maybe, though Jiang Cheng is a Dom, he tends to deny himself, especially in the more stressful times of his life (during the war, after Guanyin Temple). Now he’s slowly starting to get stir-crazy, but he also doesn’t want to grab a random sub off the street because while he won’t be the one kneeling, he’ll still be distracted as long as he’s busy with them. To his surprise, Lan Xichen offers himself up for non-sexual play. It works surprisingly well (though perhaps doesn’t stay forever non-sexual, nor just simple assistance).

陈情令 | The Untamed: Jin Guangyao/Lan Xichen

Jin Guangyao seems like someone who would not let something as insignificants as who he falls in love with stand in the way off his plans. He has goals, his less important feelings have to take a step back. Except – he realises that his relationship with Lan Xichen is just not something he wants to compromise anymore. How does he give in to his feelings? Is it a planned love confession, or an uncharacteristically impulsive kiss?

Of course, Lan Xichen shoves it all down under a smile, but he’s not exactly always open with his feelings, either. What does it look like when he breaks? Does he come running after Jin Guangyao as he’s about to leave the Cloud Recesses? Write a heartfelt letter? Just kiss him and them almost die of mortification?

Fluff and Hurt/Comfort

Either of these tropes are always awesome, no matter which direction you want to take them in. Whether it’s cuddling or one character quietly doing something nice for the other, wound care after a battle or a kiss when someone broods over something weighing on their mind, or any other version that could apply to these two tropes, I am here for it.

Hurt/Comfort - Injured A shows Up on B's doorstep Saying "I didn't know where else to go"

Maybe Jin Guangshan or Jin Zixun find a way to get Jin Guangyao kicked out again (literally). For once in his life, Jin Guangyao has no idea what he’s supposed to do. He goes to the Cloud Recesses and half-expects to be kicked down the mountains, too, but Lan Xichen is shocked and immediately takes him in, making him a Lan disciple for the time being. The Jin family is not getting rid of Jin Guangshan’s mistake and now they’ve lost control over him, too... (and also, Jin Guangyao is currently getting personally patched up and doted on by the Lan Sect Leader).

Perhaps Lan Xichen got torn up badly during a hunt, but it’s shortly after the war or another period of unrest and he doesn’t want to disquiet his disciples by looking like he’s about to fall over dead, so he sheepishly asks Jin Guangyao for help. He’s very happy to welcome Lan Xichen, of course, and make sure he gets some medicine and rest.

Hurt/Comfort - Back rubs to ease headache

Either of them! The Lan arm strength is famed, so I bet Lan Xichen gives good massages. On the other hand, he’s probably never really had one because the Lan aren’t very touchy-feely, so Jin Guangyao showing him how nice it can be could be fun.

Size Difference - taller character likes how it feels to hold smaller love interest close to them

Jin Guangyao is short and Lan Xichen is tall. This is my full prompt, lol. Okay, but yeah, I love height differences and Lan Xichen enjoying the way Jin Guangyao fits into his arms would be very cute. Jin Guangyao might sigh about probably fitting under Lan Xichen’s chin sans hat, but he secretly does like it, too.

Untrusting Character Falls Asleep on/near Character They Never Intended to Trust

I could see Jin Guangyao being someone who is just habitually very careful how and where he sleeps, especially post-assignment at the Wen, where he spent significant time as a spy, which would shape one’s world-view. Then, he just at some point randomly dozes off while close to Lan Xichen. When he wakes up silently dismayed about the fact, Lan Xichen is just all smiles as usual, probably unaware what the problem even is.

Character trying to hold it together is clearly fraying at the edges

Jin Guangyao is tearing himself apart trying to please his father. However, because Lan Xichen is his boyfriend/in love with him here, maybe he can make him slow down and wonder why he’s even trying so hard to please his father and whether it’s worth it? (Maybe this also could reduce Jin Guangyao’s kill-count to just his father...)

Lan Xichen is trying to keep his sworn brothers from being at each other’s throat, worried about his younger brother’s relationship with a certain demonic cultivator, rebuilding the Cloud Recesses and, for the first time, really acting as the sole Lan Sect Leader outside of war time. He knows he should be able to do it all, but it’s getting harder. Perceptive Jin Guangyao swoops in to help.

Character Expecting Hurt but Receiving Comfort

Jin Guangyao is under the microscope at his father’s court and that can wear on you. When he knocks an ink pot over Lan Xichen’s latest drawing or smashes a vase at the Cloud Recesses, or something else trivial like that, he immediately goes into trained damage control mode. Lan Xichen is weirded out and comforts him instead because, well, he seems nervous and high-strung and should have nice things!

However, Lan Xichen has never really been close to anyone who could be described as comforting, either, much as he loves his brother and uncle. When he makes a mistake (perhaps hurt himself during a hunt, or an embarrassing faux-pas at a social gathering), he sort of expects punishment to follow as a matter of course. Instead, Jin Guangyao is trying to lift his spirits.

A & B have to cancel planned date because A's ill/injured. B comforts and makes evening romantic

Jin Guangyao likes to be in control, so maybe he doesn’t really invite people around when he’s seriously ill and injured. Yet here is Lan Xichen, who doesn’t care Jin Guangyao can’t do much for him right now and makes him comfortable and turns it into a really romantic evening regardless.

Lan Xichen is likely also used to dealing with sickness/injury by himself or perhaps ignoring it as well as he can, since he’s generally a busy man. Suddenly there’s Jin Guangyao being nice and romantic and making Lan Xichen moon over him that much more.

Hot Springs

The Lan have cold springs, but I feel like Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao should also learn about the pleasure of hot springs at some point. Whether it’s an excuse for fluff or smut, shenanigangs with other characters (like your usual anime hot spring episode), or just the two of them having a chance to relax in peace for a bit, all would be great.

A is hit on by someone pushy; B steps in as A's fake significant other; fake to real pipeline

Probably most likely for a version of canon where same-sex relationships are more widely accepted or a Modern AU, but if you can somehow fit it into canon-verse, I’d love to read that, too!

Jin Guangyao is struggling to get rid off a pushy suitor, since he always has to be so polite in public settings. Lan Xichen wants to help and can only think of introducing himself as Jin Guangyao’s boyfriend. Jin Guangyao finds this proposition more intriguing than he wants to.

Jin Guangyao is watching polite and somewhat too nice Lan Xichen struggling and failing to free himself from being hit on. Eventually, he takes pity on him and goes over and smoothly claims he is his partner. Lan Xichen is very impressed (and possibly enjoys being Jin Guangyao’s date for the evening more than he should).

Perhaps whoever was hitting on the other is a fellow cultivator or business partner who’ll be around for a while, so now they have to keep it up for a bit...

Accidental Baby Acquisition

It’s unfair if Lan Wangji is the only brother who gets to drag children into the Cloud Recesses. Perhaps Lan Xichen finds an orphaned baby during a night-hunt and because it was touched by something supernatural, he decides to bring it back home to keep it under supervision; or it’s Jin Guangyao who ends up with a baby, but his would probably be a more tactical acquisition. Maybe they even found a child together and now feel similarly responsible? Alternatively, Lan Xichen also definitely seems like the type to bond with random orphans (which Jin Guangyao can’t help but find charming), so perhaps that’s how he gets a (slightly older) child. Of course, the idea of Jin Guangyao becoming a young orphan’s favourite person would also be sweet (I’m sure Lan Xichen would think so, too).

Lan Xichen has relatives who died and left behind an orphaned baby (or babies) (I assume both the Sunshot Campaign and the Nightless City Bloodbath could do the trick, although random night-hunt accidents also work). Since the kid(s) is/are close to the main family branch, he decides it makes sense to raise them himself. Jin Guangyao helps him, of course, especially if they’re together, and actually does start to care for the kid(s), too.

Maybe it’s Jin Guangyao who manages to weasel his way into becoming a caretaker of the orphaned baby (babies) of a Jin relative/an important minor sect under the Jin family, which does give him a bit more status at a time when he’s still struggling with that. Lan Xichen is touched by his choice to do this, and perhaps Jin Guangyao also genuinely likes his ward(s). Where they already together or does parenting bring the two of them closer?

Jin Ling is kind of an accidental baby acquisition for Jin Guangyao, isn’t he? Well, toddler, I think, by the time Jin Guangshan dies, but still. I’m sure Lan Xichen would be around to assist Jin Guangyao, especially if they’re in a relationship.

Character develops premature greys in their hair; is self conscious; partner(s) love it

Jin Guangyao developed his golden core late and it’s also relatively weak, at least in comparison to the other lords of his generation. I always thought it would be interesting if that meant that he doesn’t get to keep his youthful appearance to quite the same extent. Since his grey streaks are a visual reminder of his past and lacking power, Jin Guangyao is probably not feeling too great about them. Lan Xichen happens to think they look very handsome.

Aftermath of sex pollen - sex pollen leads to realization of romantic feelings

Night-hunting can be dangerous! Sometimes, you just run into creatures/plants that blast you with sex pollen. Jin Guangyao and Lan Xichen stumble into something like that and it turns out the resulting sex is actually quite great and perhaps more emotional/intense than one might have expected. Now they have to deal with that. You can also include the actual sex pollen smut here or just focus on the aftermath, both is great!

Arranged Marriage

The Wen sect gets their hands on Lan Xichen and wants to humiliate him, so they marry him to Wen Ruohan’s torture master. Did Jin Guangyao engineer this (it would be easy, and likely not wrong, to claim to Lan Xichen that he prevented a worse match afterwards)? Or is he as surprised as Lan Xichen that Wen Ruohan is making him a nice little gift?

Maybe, if they are married by the Wen, Lan Xichen manages to flee (possibly assisted by Jin Guangyao) at some point. Later, Jin Guangyao does not think Lan Xichen still wants to acknowledge the marriage, of course, even though he’d really like it. However, Lan Xichen thinks of this marriage as legitimate despite the circumstances.

Jin Guangshan actually gets his wish of the Jin becoming the new dominant sect and marries Lan Xichen to his bastard son to prevent him from forming a better alliance or just to demonstrate his power. Little did he realise that he just handed Lan Xichen a weapon of cunning mass destruction.

Maybe they married later when they were both sect leaders and it was an advantageous match, maybe it was arranged by a scheming Jin Guangshan forcing the Lan sect’s hand, maybe it was so Lan Xichen could avoid being pressured into marrying Wen sect people or someone else he did not like at all; whichever it is, for some reason they’re not sure if the other is actually romantically interested in them. How do they find out their romantic feelings are mutual? Is it a sudden realisation or do they work up to it slowly? Does Jin Guangyao realise first, or is he maybe diligently working on seducing Lan Xichen, but it turns out it wasn’t even necessary?

Arranged Marriage - Contract Bought Out By Someone Else

Jin Guangshan wants to get rid of Jin Guangyao and arranges for him to get married to some random lower sect leader whom Jin Guangyao is not especially fond of. There seems to be no way out... but to Jin Guangyao’s surprise, he’s then told the marriage contract got bought out. Lan Xichen couldn’t let this happen to his friend! And he doesn’t expect anything, even being his husband now – except Jin Guangyao would really want him to. Maybe they can figure that out, too.

Lan Xichen has a marriage contract that his father set up in the past. He can’t put it off anymore, even though he was never fond of the person. Then, he is told that the contract was bought out. After all, the Jin have a lot of money... Jin Guangyao may try to seduce Lan Xichen while they’re married, but perhaps finds out that isn’t even necessary because Lan Xichen is already in love?

Alternate Universe - Modern Day

I would enjoy all sorts of Modern AUs for these guys, whether they’re still cultivators or businessmen or whatever else you would like. I’m sure their relationship still has some hiccups, but sometimes I just want nice things for them (which does not mean there can’t be lots of bloody problems in Modern AUs, too, but perhaps things don’t go as totally sideways as they do in canon).

Alternate Universe - Pacific Rim Fusion

I love Pacific Rim AUs, Fusions, whichever way you wanna take it – they can just live in the Pacific Rim world, or Pacific Rim type robots can be a thing in Untamed (possibly powered by magic, or maybe it’s Steampunk now), or it can be a mix where the Untamed world is more like the Pacific Rim world or the other way around. Is Jin Guangyao the guy in HQ who guides Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji (or another co-pilot) because he likes that position best? Or maybe he didn’t get a chance to be a pilot because his father doesn’t want it, but then there’s a crisis and Lan Xichen needs a second pilot and Jin Guangyao is available. That, or Jin Guangyao is assigned to find compatible pilots in the training room (despite wanting to be a pilot), but Lan Xichen realises Jin Guangyao wants to give fighting a go, too, and invites him, and whoops they’re compatible.

Fight scenes in big robots, intense training room sparring sessions that show compatibility, and sudden post-drift-make-outs are always appreciated!

I don’t actually need an explanation why one of them (or two, or all the cultivators) suddenly has animal ears and tails, but you can make it a plot point, too, if you want! Maybe you adopt the features of an animal that matches you when you cultivate to a certain point? Maybe it’s hereditary and the Lan all have bunny ears? Can Jin Guangyao resist petting Lan Xichen’s? Do the Jins also have animal ears and tail and if yes, which animal?

"Casual" Sex Turning Tender

I always love situations were characters had convinced themselves they were only having a bit of fun together, but then at some point sex ends up being unexpectedly intimate and/or passionate and/or sweet and they are forced to re-evaluate their relationship (whether this happens the very first time they do it, or at a later point).

I could also see this being a one-sided thing where Jin Guangyao was only going to casually seduce Lan Xichen (who Jin Guangyao wanted to be in love, and who already doesn’t see this as just casual), but then sex with him lays it bare to Jin Guangyao that he can’t emotionally separate himself like that when it comes to Lan Xichen. Lan Xichen being so tender and happy to be with Jin Guangyao that he accidentally breaks through his shell would be very nice.

"Thank Fuck You're Alive!" Emotions Turn Into Frantic Fucking

Perhaps a dangerous hunt is the reason for this, or a battle during the war. Maybe one of them was in mortal peril, or it could have been both of them at once. Whether they’re in a relationship or this is a first-time thing, both would be really hot.

Character is ashamed of their kinks

Always a great topic, too. I would love Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao exploring kinks together. Are both or is one of them fairly inexperienced? Or maybe one has a particular kink in mind and the other is happy to follow their lead. Maybe someone got a hand on a pornography book and they’re working through that, or maybe Jin Guangyao saw some things back at the brothel he wants to try out now. Lan Xichen seems more likely to be ashamed even of kinks that Jin Guangyao thinks are super tame, so that could be fun. But perhaps Jin Guangyao also has a kink in mind he didn’t dare share at first? Anything would be fun, and any kink not in my DNW list would work for this, go wild.

BDSM

I would love Jin Guangyao as a Dom, whether he’s the sweet kind who praises and pets his subs, or whether this is where he lives out some of his more violent urges that he doesn’t get to show in public. Does Lan Xichen have any idea what BDSM even is (in a non-Modern AU, of course it wouldn’t have that name, but some practices are probably known)? If not, is Jin Guangyao happy to teach him? Or perhaps Lan Xichen already knows about his own desire to submit, but was too ashamed to do anything about it so far.

Jin Guangyao being a little uncertain about some of his tendencies after inventing (and probably using) actual torture instruments when with Wen Ruohan would also be interesting. Can he separate the two? Or does he need some convincing from Lan Xichen that he’s not actually a terrible person for wanting to hurt his lovers?

Or maybe Lan Xichen is the one who asks if they could try it and Jin Guangyao only realises how fun Domming is when he tries it on sub Lan Xichen.

BDSM - Inflicting Pain Until Character Has Much-needed Emotional Breakdown

The greatest emotional outburst Lan Xichen ever had was when he slapped Jin Guangyao and he seemed to regret even that immediately after. Maybe instead of Lan Xichen relying on melancholic flute solos to deal with his own pain, Jin Guangyao can use BDSM to draw him out emotionally – whether that was actually planned or not. He’s certainly perceptive enough to know Lan Xichen might need it, so perhaps it’s targeted. However, maybe Lan Xichen is just usually a very resilient sub and when he breaks down this time, Jin Guangyao is very worried. However, it turns out to have been for the best.

Obviously not quite as intended, but could be read that way: Maybe Dom Jin Guangyao is the one who has the emotional breakdown? Like he just keeps wailing on Lan Xichen, who is pretty resilient and not opting out, and the rush of endorphins plus the awareness of the implicit trust Lan Xichen has in him makes Jin Guangyao topple and have to end the scene (added comfort afterwards would be great!).

Clothed Dom/Naked Sub

Just an inherently hot kink to me. Does the Lan forehead ribbon stay on or does Jin Guangyao take special pleasure in making sure Lan Xichen isn’t wearing that last shred of cloth anymore, either?

Alpha Jin Guangyao is annoyed. Falling for an alpha was not the plan, it just makes things more difficult, and he doesn’t have time for it... except, it turns out luck is on Jin Guangyao’s side for once because Lan Xichen is not an alpha. Does Lan Xichen actively hide he is an omega, or did Jin Guangyao simply assume and the revelation is just Lan Xichen or someone else mentioning his nature off-handedly, or Jin Guangyao putting the pieces together eventually?

Maybe Lan Xichen hides his nature from everybody to keep responsibility off (beta or alpha) Lan Wangji’s shoulders, or a few in his sect know, but the Lan elders are worried the Wen sect will demand their omega as tribute if it’s more widely known; or maybe there’s another reason. Whatever it is, Lan Xichen eventually confides in his friend. Alpha Meng Yao/Jin Guangyao is glad for his trust except this complicates things because up to now, he could pragmatically tell himself that pursuing an alpha had no value, but now Lan Xichen could be a possible marriage partner.

Lan Xichen’s nature is revealed against his will and he’s facing a lot of criticism for being the sect leader still, despite having a better suited brother (even though Lan Wangji does not want that position). Chief Cultivator Jin Guangyao steps in to support him him in public and Lan Xichen is very thankful and perhaps a bit surprised that Jin Guangyao, who gets a lot of flack himself and doesn’t need more people criticising him, is so obviously in his corner. Jin Guangyao honestly thinks Lan Xichen is more worthy than any of the people criticising him – but it doesn’t mean that the reveal wasn’t interesting in other ways to him...

A/B/O - BAMF Power Couple Alpha/Omega

Would be perfect for them! They’re both strong cultivators and even if this is an A/B/O setting were omegas are meant to stay off the battlefield if possible, I feel like Jin Guangyao would actually enjoy that Lan Xichen can more than hold his own.

A/B/O - Omegas get feisty during heat and fight off alphas to make them prove their worth

This also sounds like some sort of tradition or biological fact or ritual to me (it’s probably not something Lan Xichen decided by himself, anyway). Maybe no one so far has had any luck, even though he’s done this for a few heats? Lan Xichen is a strong guy and perhaps he wasn’t really motivated to let anyone win yet, either. However, we’re aware Jin Guangyao knows a trick to incapacitate people and is good at making them come in range. He could also use another sleight of hand, though. I bet either way Lan Xichen would be impressed...

Does Lan Xichen fight him as hard as he can out of a sense of honour until Jin Guangyao has beaten him? Or was he maybe being a little easy on him?

A/B/O - fake relationship - rules require omega to have an alpha

Omega Lan Xichen has some freedom as a sect leader, but when he’s hiding out with Meng Yao, he’s posing as just a regular omega. Meng Yao offers to play the role of his alpha so Lan Xichen won’t draw undue attention. Turns out the two very much enjoy this.

A/B/O - Claiming captured omega to save them from others

Wen Ruohan has captured Lan Xichen. Meng Yao wants to save him from worse partners, so he asks Wen Ruohan for Lan Xichen as his toy. Since it’s also a great opportunity to humiliate Lan Xichen, Wen Ruohan hands Lan Xichen to Meng Yao as a mate.

Meng Yao having to act sufficiently horrible to satisfy Wen Ruohan in public (pushing Lan Xichen around, insulting him), then apologising a hundred times in private would be interesting. However, Lan Xichen does already suspect he’s the spy, so he’s not fully confused here. Maybe they can destroy the Wen leadership from the inside together, without the need for Meng Yao to kill Nie disciples and get into another conflict with Nie Mingjue?

A/B/O - Omega doesn't realize they're in heat but alpha does

Maybe Lan Xichen has always cultivated or taken medicine to suppress his heats or he just presents very late and thought he was a beta, but then, when he’s with Jin Guangyao hiding from the Wen, at the tail end of the war, or visiting Koi Tower, the heat suddenly hits him like a brick. Jin Guangyao makes sure to drag a confused Lan Xichen out of harm’s way and perhaps also offers help when it seems Lan Xichen’s heat is very painful? Or maybe he just locks him away so he can be safe (while pining profusely), but afterwards a grateful Lan Xichen and him feel even closer...

A/B/O - Alpha With Breeding Kink Can't Stop Touching Their Partner's Belly While They're Tied

Maybe Jin Guangyao is a bit ashamed of his kink and so he doesn’t speak about it, but Lan Xichen notices this habit, anyway, and invites him to indulge (even if they’re using protection of some sort). Perhaps it also gets them seriously thinking about kids (or seriously into trying to actually make them).

Breeding Kink - Character A fucks Character B and tells them how they're going to breed them

For A/B/O or mpreg being possible for some men for any reason at all (or no reason at all), this would be great to see. Maybe Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao are kind of shocked how much they like it, but it’s really hot for both of them when Jin Guangyao talks of it. Or perhaps one of them is slightly embarrassed, but not surprised because they already knew how much they were into this kink.

Maybe mpreg is a thing, but it’s magic or cultivation or something, so having sex doesn’t really factor into it very much. That doesn’t mean that Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao can’t have fun pretending Jin Guangyao is knocking Lan Xichen up, though.

Or this could be entirely set in the canon world and they’re planning to adopt heirs or something, but now they’re pretending what it would have been like to make their children and getting really into it. (Generally, I would prefer if there was a way for them to acquire children that can be their heirs, since I feel like breeding kink would otherwise turn pretty depressing if they know they’ll eventually have to break up because they actually can’t have children together. However, if you do want to go for kind-of-depressing/melancholy breeding kink and then it turns out, whoops, magic mpreg somehow happened and now Lan Xichen is carrying a kid, that would be interesting, too! I basically just don’t want it to be a thing where the kink foreshadows an unavoidable tragic ending, lol.)

Mpreg - Male character gets pregnant by magic

The dangers of being a cultivator are manifold, and getting hit by weird magic is definitely one of them. Maybe some strange ghost or creature or plant uses Jin Guangyao’s life-force to impregnate Lan Xichen, maybe accidentally, maybe because it sees they’re in love, or actually already together. What do they do after they realise what happened? I would like it if they eventually enjoyed the idea of becoming parents – also because this child and access to mpreg magic might mean they don’t have to end their relationship to marry for heirs.

A is raped by third party and gets pregnant; B marries A to save A's virtue

For A/B/O or any other reason (some) men can get pregnant: Maybe this happens during the war or on a hunt and Jin Guangyao happens to be the one who finds/rescues Lan Xichen after the rape, so Lan Xichen later confides in him about the unborn child as well. Maybe the Wen raped Lan Xichen before he could flee, so he finds out he’s pregnant when hiding with Meng Yaou. Of course, if it happens after the war, he might also just tell him because Jin Guangyao is his friend. Maybe Lan Xichen only realises too late that he’s pregnant, or he still can’t bring himself to abort the child even if notices earlier (or maybe you wanna go with the fan theory that Lan Xichen knows he himself is not a Lan by blood because his mother killed her rapist and he is that person’s child, which might influence his decision). Either way, Jin Guangyao knows this would hurt his reputation, so he offers to marry him so Lan Xichen can save face. (Maybe there’s also something self-serving there because if he's not yet a sect leader, that marriage is a status boost, but then whoops, Jin Guangyao falls in love for real.)

Was there already a spark between them when they were married? Or does it develop during the marriage, during the pregnancy or while parenting the baby together? I would also love a fic about them pining and finally revealing their feelings to each other, their first time together, or just sweet family time as a couple.

Jin Guangyao having complicated feelings about the fact that Lan Xichen ends up loving his rapist’s bastard child, but Jin Guangshan couldn’t even spare a glance at the bastard children he willingly made (and this perhaps spurring him on to reconsider whether trying to get his father’s favour is really worth it).

Do the two ever tell anyone the truth? Maybe Lan Wangji?

Alternate Universe - BDSM

I also like BDSM universes where all people are born as either Doms or subs. Maybe it’s unusual that a sub would lead a sect, but Dom Lan Wangji doesn’t want the position, so sub Lan Xichen is the sect leader. Dom Jin Guangyao tries to tell himself he’s only fascinated by that circumstance, but maybe there’s more to it.

Maybe because he’s so nervous and frightened when hiding with Jin Guangyao, the usually stable sub Lan Xichen needs a little assistance. Dom Meng Yao is happy to help. Perhaps this ends up going farther than they both planned.

Sub Lan Xichen finds being around Dom Meng Yao/Jin Guangyao very pleasant because he doesn’t try to dominate or interrogate him. Perhaps there’s more he likes about him, too...

Sub Lan Xichen is happy to have a friend he can go to if he needs some help with his urges (maybe he doesn’t want to ask Nie Mingjue because it feels awkward with an old friend, or because he’s afraid of looking weak). Dom Jin Guangyao might have started doing this because it gives him some secret leverage over Lan Xichen, but ends up really enjoying their relationship and falling for real.

Alternate Universe - BDSM - Longterm Denial of Needs Has Bad Effects; Character Denies Self Anyway

Sub Lan Xichen doesn’t want to appear weak, so he cultivates to make sure he can resist hostile attacks and generally does not submit. However, this eventually leads to some problems (illness, qi deviation). Jin Guangyao notices and offers discreet help, non-sexual of course. Except the two of them match well and maybe it doesn’t forever stay non-sexual, nor just simple assistance.

Or maybe, though Jin Guangyao is a Dom, he tends to deny himself unless there’s a situation he can have absolute control over. Now he’s slowly starting to get stir-crazy, but he also doesn’t want to grab a random sub off the street because while he won’t be the one kneeling, he still doesn’t trust anyone enough to become as vulnerable as losing himself in play might make him. To his surprise, Lan Xichen offers himself up for non-sexual play. It works very well (though perhaps doesn’t stay forever non-sexual, nor just simple assistance).

陈情令 | The Untamed: Nie Mingjue/Lan Xichen

Nie Mingjue wants to focus on his training and his work as a sect leader, yet Lan Xichen is the one person who can always successfully distract him. Eventually, he cannot deny his feelings anymore. Does he just slap him against a wall or kiss him, or does he opt for a love confession? Maybe the breaking point is also a dramatic situation, perhaps after Nie Mingjue got wounded in a hunt and decides he doesn’t want to die without having said this (after all, his death will likely be earlier than most, anyway)?

Of course, Lan Xichen shoves it all down under a smile, but he’s not exactly always open with his feelings, either. What does it look like when he breaks? Does he come running after Nie Mingjue as he’s about to leave the Cloud Recesses? Write a heartfelt letter? Just kiss him and them almost die of mortification?

Fluff and Hurt/Comfort

Either of these tropes are always awesome, no matter which direction you want to take them in. Whether it’s cuddling or one character quietly doing something nice for the other, wound care after a battle or a kiss when someone broods over something weighing on their mind, or any other version that could apply to these two tropes, I am here for it.

Hurt/Comfort - Back rubs to ease headache

They both have strong arms, so I’m sure either of them could give a very good massage to help their boyfriend relieve some tension.

A & B have to cancel planned date because A's ill/injured. B comforts and makes evening romantic

Nie Mingjue is used to dealing with pain alone and is probably already annoyed it’s so bad he has to cancel anything. Then, a worried Lan Xichen shows up anyway and dotes on him a bit and makes things romantic.

Lan Xichen is sad he had to cancel because as two sect leaders, they already don’t get to spend too much time together, but he’s also used to dealing with discomfort alone. Nie Mingjue decides to come over to check on Lan Xichen. It ends up being a romantic evening.

Character trying to hold it together is clearly fraying at the edges

After ascending to sect leader position and taking over care of his younger brother as a teen after his father’s death, Nie Mingjue is clearly struggling, though he’s trying his best. His friend (or perhaps at that point just acquaintance?) Lan Xichen realises things aren’t going well and, having a bit of experience as a pseudo-sect leader and helping with raising his brother thanks to his father’s seclusion, decides to help. Maybe some cute childhood romance (though under decidedly not-cute circumstances)?

Of course, as an adult Nie Mingjue also could happen on bad times. Maybe he just has a lot of stress rebuilding the Unclean Realm and he’s having trouble with his qi disturbances as well. Lan Xichen comes over to play Cleansing and provide other help and comfort.

Lan Xichen is worried about his younger brother’s relationship with a certain demonic cultivator, rebuilding the Cloud Recesses and, for the first time, really acting as the sole Lan Sect Leader outside of war time. He knows he should be able to do it all, but it’s getting harder. Nie Mingjue steps in to help.

Character Expecting Hurt but Receiving Comfort

Nie Mingjue seems like he’s very self-reliant and used to brute-forcing head-first if he has to. He might feel embarrassed that he needs help if he’s hurt (mentally or physically) and can’t do it alone, or made a mistake during a hunt, like others will think less of him because he’s usually such a brick wall of a person. Lan Xichen doesn’t think badly of him at all.

Same for Lan Xichen, really, he’s also used to having to be reliable. In the book, he seemed embarrassed that he had to flee from the burning of the Cloud Recesses to save their texts and didn’t want Nie Mingjue to know. Is it the same here? He must have told him eventually, though, so maybe he was expecting to get scolded and doesn’t? Or maybe it’s a different mistake he’s made that led to him getting hurt during a hunt or embarrassed in a social situation. Nie Mingjue doesn’t judge him.

Hot Springs

The Lan have cold springs, but I feel like Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue should also learn about the pleasure of hot springs at some point. Whether it’s an excuse for fluff or smut, shenanigangs with other characters (like your usual anime hot spring episode), or just the two of them having a chance to relax in peace for a bit, all would be great.

MDZS: Nie clan braids

Not a thing in the book, if I remember correctly, but an inspired choice from the show. I would love Lan Xichen just generally loving the look of Nie Mingjue with braids, braiding Nie Mingjue’s hair, or Lan Xichen’s braiding his own hair as a surprise if they get married/just for themselves in private/to match some Nie clan robes Lan Xichen is currently wearing (Nie Mingjue braiding Lan Xichen’s hair would also be great).

A is hit on by someone pushy; B steps in as A's fake significant other; fake to real pipeline

Probably most likely for a version of canon where same-sex relationships are more widely accepted or a Modern AU, but if you can somehow fit it into canon-verse, I’d love to read that, too!

Nie Mingjue is struggling to get rid off a pushy suitor and perhaps circumstances mean he can’t just snap at them to cut it out because getting into an argument would be messy (and potentially he’s also just not used to people being so brazen around him). Lan Xichen wants to help and can only think of introducing himself as Nie Mingjue’s boyfriend. Nie Mingjue finds this proposition more intriguing than he wants to.

Nie Mingjue is watching polite and somewhat too nice Lan Xichen struggling and failing to free himself from being hit on. Eventually, he takes pity on him and goes over and just claims him for himself. Lan Xichen is very impressed (and possibly enjoys being Nie Mingjue’s date for the evening more than he should).

Perhaps whoever was hitting on the other is a fellow cultivator or business partner who’ll be around for a while, so now they have to keep it up for a bit...

Accidental Baby Acquisition

It’s unfair if Lan Wangji is the only brother who gets to drag children into the Cloud Recesses. Perhaps Lan Xichen finds an orphaned baby during a night-hunt and because it was touched by something supernatural, he decides to bring it back home to keep it under supervision; or it’s Nie Mingjue who suddenly has a baby in the Unclean Realm for these reasons. Maybe they even found a child together and now feel similarly responsible? Alternatively, Lan Xichen also definitely seems like the type to bond with random orphans (which Nie Mingjue can’t help but find charming), so perhaps that’s how he gets a (slightly older) child. Of course, the idea of Nie Mingjue accidentally collecting a little orphan that follows him like a duckling is also very cute (I’m sure Lan Xichen would think so, too).

One of them has relatives who die and leave behind an orphaned baby (or babies) (I assume both the Sunshot Campaign and the Nightless City Bloodbath could do the trick, although random night-hunt accidents also work). Since the kid(s) is/are close to the main family branch, the one whose relatives died decide it makes sense to raise them themselves. The other helps them with this.

Both of them were thrust into a sort of parental role for their younger sibling very early, so they’re not totally new to this ballgame, and that’s probably one of the reasons they feel like they want to support the other and have something to offer. Were they crushing on each other before, or is it parenting together that reveals their feelings?

Aftermath of sex pollen - sex pollen leads to realization of romantic feelings

Night-hunting can be dangerous! Sometimes, you just run into creatures/plants that blast you with sex pollen. Nie Mingjue and Lan Xichen stumble into something like that and it turns out the resulting sex is actually quite great and perhaps more emotional/intense than one might have expected. Now they have to deal with that. You can also include the actual sex pollen smut here or just focus on the aftermath, both is great!

Arranged Marriage

Perhaps the Lan and the Nie sect wanted to bolster an alliance against the Wen sect, or the match is generally advantageous for two of the greatest sects, so that’s why their heirs were basically promised to each other when they were born, or not so long after. Would definitely be here for childhood/early teens fluff, where these two kids try to figure out how to act in front of your future spouse. However, I would also like to see the shift in their relationship as the burdens of their duties become heavier and they support each other and begin to really grow into their role as husbands/future husbands. Then, of course, it would be nice to see when it shifted from alliance to romance. Was it an early puppy crush or did they only admit it to themselves later?

Or maybe Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue arrange this themselves after the war and it really was meant to be a way to publically shield them against such things as Jin Guangshan possibly planning to make his sect fill the gap the Wen sect left, but they just like each other a little too much to keep it uncomplicated.

Mutual Pining In Arranged Marriage

Works for a lot of the Arranged Marriage plots above, but also on its own! Maybe they married so that the Lan sect could help with the qi deviations more permanently, maybe it was arranged by their elders, maybe they married so they could both/one of them could avoid being pressured into marrying Wen sect people, but for some reason they’re not sure if the other is actually romantically interested in them. How do they find out their romantic feelings are mutual? Is it a sudden realisation or do they work up to it slowly?

Character is secretly a werewolf

I love the idea that the Nie secret (or another Nie secret) could also be that they are werewolves, or another were-predator, or maybe whatever beast it is that is displayed on their emblem. I would enjoy all sorts of Modern AUs for these guys, whether they’re still cultivators or businessmen or whatever else you would like. I’m sure their relationship still has some hiccups, but sometimes I just want nice things for them (which does not mean there can’t be lots of bloody problems in Modern AUs, too, but perhaps things don’t go as totally sideways as they do in canon).

Alternate Universe - Pacific Rim Fusion

I love Pacific Rim AUs, Fusions, whichever way you wanna take it – they can just live in the Pacific Rim world, or Pacific Rim type robots can be a thing in Untamed (possibly powered by magic, or maybe it’s Steampunk now), or it can be a mix where the Untamed world is more like the Pacific Rim world or the other way around. Maybe Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue happen to spar during a session and it turns out they’re very, very compatible? Or they drift with others (with their respective brothers, maybe), but in an emergency they have to get into a Jaeger together and it ends up working.

Fight scenes in big robots, intense training room sparring sessions that show compatibility, and sudden post-drift-make-outs are always appreciated!

I don’t actually need an explanation why one of them (or two, or all the cultivators) suddenly has animal ears and tails, but you can make it a plot point, too, if you want! Maybe you adopt the features of an animal that matches you when you cultivate to a certain point? Maybe it’s hereditary and the Lan all have bunny ears? Can Nie Mingjue resist petting Lan Xichen’s? Do the Nies also have animal ears and tail and if yes, which animal?

Lan Xichen may not have done much experimenting as a teenager because of the Lan rules and Nie Mingjue was also always very focused on his training. I love the idea that when Lan Xichen is eighteen, nineteen, or maybe even later, during/after the war, Nie Mingjue and Lan Xichen decide they’re going to experiment a little bit (probably while pining hard). If they don’t do “real” (penetrative) sex, it’s doesn’t count, right? Right?

“Just the tip” might be the compromise they come up with when they really can’t keep themselves from wanting to try penetrative sex anymore. Turns out that doesn’t really work because they get carried away. Maybe afterwards they have to consider if it was ever a very good excuse to begin with, even if they had stuck to it...

I always love situations were characters had convinced themselves they were only having a bit of fun together, but then at some point sex ends up being unexpectedly intimate and/or passionate and/or sweet and they are forced to re-evaluate their relationship (whether this happens the very first time they do it, or at a later point).

"Thank Fuck You're Alive!" Emotions Turn Into Frantic Fucking

Perhaps a dangerous hunt is the reason for this, or a battle during the war. Maybe one of them was in mortal peril, or it could have been both of them at once. Whether they’re in a relationship or this is a first-time thing, both would be really hot.

Or maybe Nie Mingjue is pushed to the brink of qi deviation at some point, but Lan Xichen just manages to play him down from the very edge and afterwards, they cannot help but tear each other’s clothes off.

BDSM

Is Nie Mingjue embarrassed that he wants to Dom? Maybe he’s worried it means that Baxia’s spirit is taking over his sexuality now, too. However, Lan Xichen says they should try it out and Nie Mingjue realises it’s not just him wanting to be violent.

Or maybe Lan Xichen is embarrassed of his desire to submit in bed. Nie Mingjue thinks that’s stupid (Lan Xichen should not be worried about losing face in front of him – and besides, Lan Xichen submitting sounds hot to him) and shows him him it’s not a bad thing.

They’re both very tall, muscular, strong men, so the two can go at each other during BDSM play in a way they might not be able to with other partners. I would love them see have fun with that.

BDSM - Inflicting Pain Until Character Has Much-needed Emotional Breakdown

The greatest emotional outburst Lan Xichen ever had was when he slapped Jin Guangyao and he seemed to regret even that immediately after. Maybe instead of Lan Xichen relying on melancholic flute solos to deal with his own pain, Nie Mingjue can use BDSM to draw him out emotionally – whether that was actually planned or not. He has known Lan Xichen long enough to know Lan Xichen might need it, so perhaps it’s targeted. However, maybe Lan Xichen is just usually a very resilient sub and when he breaks down this time, Nie Mingjue is very worried. However, it turns out to have been for the best.

Obviously not quite as intended, but could be read that way: Maybe Dom Nie Mingjue is the one who has the emotional breakdown? Like he just keeps wailing on Lan Xichen, who is pretty resilient and not opting out, and the rush of endorphins plus the awareness of the implicit trust Lan Xichen has in him makes Nie Mingjue topple and have to end the scene because it all gets twisted up with knowing his family’s tendency to die while going feral, the awareness of the violent influence of Baxia, and so on (added comfort afterwards would be great!).

Clothed Dom/Naked Sub

Just an inherently hot kink to me. Does the Lan forehead ribbon stay on or does Nie Mingjue take special pleasure in making sure Lan Xichen isn’t wearing that last shred of cloth anymore, either?

Always a great topic, too. I would love Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue exploring kinks together. Are both or is one of them fairly inexperienced? Or maybe one has a particular kink in mind and the other is happy to follow their lead. Maybe someone got their hand on a pornography book (Nie Huaisang left it lying around) and they’re working through that. I could see either of them being embarrassed, and the other being very happy to help. Anything would be fun, and any kink not in my DNW list would work for this, go wild.

Alpha Nie Mingjue never really wanted an omega. The kind he is presented as potential mates are slight and meek and not supposed to learn how to fight and he has never found much to talk about with any of them. Now, an alpha like Lan Xichen, if that were an option... except, it turns out, Lan Xichen is not an alpha. Does Lan Xichen actively hide he is an omega, or did Nie Mingjue simply assume and the revelation is just Lan Xichen or someone else mentioning his nature off-handedly? (This would probably be the case if Lan Xichen had only presented fairly recently, as I assume the news would otherwise have made it through the gossipy cultivation world already.)

Maybe Lan Xichen hides his nature from everybody to keep responsibility off (beta or alpha) Lan Wangji’s shoulders, or a few in his sect know, but the Lan elders are worried the Wen sect will demand their omega as tribute if it’s more widely known; or maybe there’s another reason. Whatever it is, Lan Xichen eventually confides in his old friend. Alpha Nie Mingjue is glad for his trust except now his crush is worse; after all, he could never have married another alpha, since he needs heirs, but now...

Lan Xichen’s nature is revealed against his will and he’s facing a lot of criticism for being the sect leader still, despite having a better suited brother (even though Lan Wangji does not want that position). Nie Mingjue angrily supports him in public and Lan Xichen is very thankful and perhaps a bit surprised that Nie Mingjue, despite coming from a rather strict, militant sect, is so clearly in his corner. Nie Mingjue just respects competence – but it doesn’t mean that the reveal wasn’t interesting in other ways to him...

A/B/O - BAMF Power Couple Alpha/Omega

Would be perfect for them! They’re both strong cultivators and even if this is an A/B/O setting were omegas are meant to stay off the battlefield if possible, I feel like Nie Mingjue would actually enjoy that Lan Xichen can more than hold his own.

This also sounds like some sort of tradition or a biological thing or a ritual to me (it’s probably not something Lan Xichen decided by himself, anyway). Maybe no one so far has had any luck, even though he’s done this for a few heats? Lan Xichen is a strong guy and perhaps he wasn’t really motivated to let anyone win yet, either. However, Nie Mingjue might be strong enough to beat him if he decides to take part...

Does Lan Xichen fight him as hard as he can out of a sense of honour until Nie Mingjue has beaten him? Or was he maybe a little easy on him?

A/B/O - Omega doesn't realize they're in heat but alpha does

Maybe Lan Xichen has always cultivated or taken medicine to suppress his heats or he just presents very late and thought he was a beta, but then, when he’s with Nie Mingjue during the war or visiting Unclean Realm, the heat suddenly hits him like a brick. Nie Mingjue makes sure to drag a confused Lan Xichen out of harm’s way and perhaps also offers help when it seems Lan Xichen’s heat is very painful? Or maybe he just locks him away so he can be safe (while pining profusely), but afterwards a grateful Lan Xichen and him feel even closer...

A/B/O - Alpha With Breeding Kink Can't Stop Touching Their Partner's Belly While They're Tied

Maybe Nie Mingjue is a bit ashamed of his kink and so he doesn’t speak about it, but Lan Xichen notices this habit, anyway, and invites him to indulge (even if they’re using protection of some sort). Perhaps it also gets them seriously thinking about kids (or seriously into trying to actually make them).

For A/B/O or mpreg being possible for some men for any reason at all (or no reason at all), this would be great to see. Maybe Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue are kind of shocked how much they like it, but it’s really hot for both of them when Nie Mingjue talks of it. Or perhaps one of them is slightly embarrassed, but not surprised because they already knew how much they were into this kink.

Maybe mpreg is a thing, but it’s magic or cultivation or something, so having sex doesn’t really factor into it very much. That doesn’t mean that Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue can’t have fun pretending Nie Mingjue is knocking Lan Xichen up, though.

Or this could be entirely set in the canon world and they’re planning to adopt heirs or something, but now they’re pretending what it would have been like to make their children and getting really into it. (Generally, I would prefer if there was a way for them to acquire children that can be their heirs, since I feel like breeding kink would otherwise turn pretty depressing if they know they’ll eventually have to break up because they actually can’t have children together. However, if you do want to go for kind-of-depressing/melancholy breeding kink and then it turns out, whoops, magic mpreg somehow happened and now Lan Xichen is carrying a kid, that would be interesting, too! I basically just don’t want it to be a thing where the kink foreshadows an unavoidable tragic ending, lol.)

Mpreg - Male character gets pregnant by magic

The dangers of being a cultivator are manifold, and getting hit by weird magic is definitely one of them. Maybe some strange ghost or creature or plant uses Nie Mingjue’s life-force to impregnate Lan Xichen, maybe accidentally, maybe because it sees they’re in love, or actually already together. What do they do after they realise what happened? I would like it if they eventually enjoyed the idea of becoming parents – also because this child and access to mpreg magic might mean they don’t have to end their relationship to marry for heirs.

A is raped by third party and gets pregnant; B marries A to save A's virtue

For A/B/O or any other reason (some) men can get pregnant: Maybe this happens during the war or on a hunt and Nie Mingjue happens to be the one who finds/rescues Lan Xichen after the rape, so Lan Xichen later confides in him about the unborn child as well. Of course, Lan Xichen might also just tell Nie Mingjue because Nie Mingjue is his friend. Maybe Lan Xichen only realises too late that he’s pregnant, or he still can’t bring himself to abort the child even if notices earlier (or maybe you wanna go with the fan theory that Lan Xichen knows he himself is not a Lan by blood because his mother killed her rapist and he is that person’s child, which might influence his decision). Either way, Nie Mingjue knows this would hurt his reputation, so he offers to marry him so Lan Xichen can save face.

Was there already a spark between them when they were married? Or does it develop during the marriage, during the pregnancy or while parenting the baby together? I would also love a fic about them pining and finally revealing their feelings to each other, their first time together, or just sweet family time as a couple.

Do the two ever tell anyone the truth? Maybe their brothers?

Alternate Universe - BDSM

I also like BDSM universes where all people are born as either Doms or subs. Maybe it’s unusual that a sub would lead a sect, but Dom Lan Wangji doesn’t want the position, so sub Lan Xichen is the sect leader. Dom Nie Mingjue tries to tell himself he’s only fascinated by that strange circumstance, but maybe there’s more to it.

Sub Lan Xichen finds being around Dom Nie Mingjue very pleasant because he doesn’t try to dominate or interrogate him – Nie Mingjue doesn’t like doing that to random subs who didn’t ask, anyway, and he respects Lan Xichen as an old friend. Lan Xichen wonders if Nie Mingjue could still see something in him as a sub, though, because he may be dreaming to have some consensual play (and more) with him.

Dom Nie Mingjue is extremely popular with subs, but he only wants the one sub who doesn’t really seem to need a permanent Dom in the first place, Lan Xichen. Meanwhile, sub Lan Xichen isn’t really a favourite with many Doms because he has a lot of authority and wields it not unhappily, so he doubts he has a chance with someone as sought-after as Nie Mingjue. How do they get together?

Dom Nie Mingjue and sub Lan Xichen have always helped with each other’s urges since they were adults, but always in a non-sexual way. Turns out their feelings towards each other shift and that doesn’t stay so innocent.

Alternate Universe - BDSM - Longterm Denial of Needs Has Bad Effects; Character Denies Self Anyway

Sub Lan Xichen doesn’t want to appear weak, so he cultivates to make sure he can resist hostile attacks and generally does not submit. However, this eventually leads to some problems (illness, qi deviation). Nie Mingjue realises this and offers his help, non-sexual of course – after all, Lan Xichen also helps him with the sabre spirit problem. Except the two of them match well and maybe it doesn’t forever stay non-sexual, nor just simple assistance.

Or maybe, though Nie Mingjue is a Dom, he tends to deny himself, especially in the busier times of his life (like during the war), or when he’s worried that Baxia is making his temper flare. Now he’s slowly starting to get stir-crazy, but he also doesn’t want to grab a random sub off the street because they might not know how to handle him. To his surprise, Lan Xichen offers himself up for non-sexual play, since he already helps calm Nie Mingjue in other ways, anyway. It works surprisingly well (though perhaps doesn’t stay forever non-sexual, nor just simple assistance).
