greygerbil on AO3, thank you for writing or drawing for me! Right from the start, I want to say you don’t have to do anything with my prompts, they’re just there in case you want some ideas. If it has my pairing and avoids my DNWs, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it! All ratings are great. I included a list of my general likes and smut likes which apply to all my requests. When it comes to kinks, you can include anything not listed under my DNWs.

Fic where the couple is not yet together but clearly in love, or on the road to getting together, or having their first time kissing/in bed together are great. However, so are established relationship fics. Whatever suits your ideas!

Some prompts may read like ideas for longer fics, but if you’re interested in them, please just grab a scene with the general idea out of the middle of those hypothetical longfics and write me that! Generally, I enjoy a wide variety of different art styles, from traditional oil paintings to manga to western comics to cubism and everything in between, so please feel free to go with whatever you enjoy. I like stark black-and-white lineart just as much as elaborately shaded coal or pencil drawings and, of course, colours of every sort, traditional and digital alike. I’d very much like to see my requested pairings in your style, but if you have a specific stylistic idea, that’s always super fun, too.

For motives, I gave specific prompts for each pairing. Literally anything that indicates it is shippy would always be appreciated, though, from hand-holding to explicit porn. I’m also always here for pictures of battle couples in action, if you enjoy fight scenes, or the characters doing simple, everyday things together and enjoying themselves.

General Likes for OW

Characters and Tropes
I have very few real preferences for characters, except that I’d be happy if the men in the pairings were at least 25 years old or older (no limit at all in that direction!) because I enjoy characters who have had some time to gather life experiences. Physically, I mostly like male characters who aren’t super dainty, but anything from skinny to average to chubby to bodybuilder goes. Also, exceptions of course can be made for certain prompts or species – a traditional elf is probably not going to look like Conan the Barbarian.

Feel free to change the characters around to fit your setting and plot ideas. You can interpret my requested king as a chieftain or pharaoh, for example, so an equivalent role they would have in a different cultural setting. Also, you can make the characters members of a fantasy or science fiction species, too, if that fits your setting, even if the prompt itself doesn’t say it. The Last Member of an Alien Species could also turn into a Last Member of a Fantasy Species and such.

I enjoy a/b/o, so you can add that to prompts if you like. I actually quite like omegas who are physically stronger than their alphas, but it’s not a must!

I’m into kidfic, mpreg and adoption stories, so if you want any of the requested couples planning a family, go right ahead, even if it’s not inherent to the prompt.

Settings
For historical fiction or fantasy settings, feel free to make up any number of countries for any time period or location in the world, use actually existing ones, or rewrite them to fit your needs (mpreg exists, homophobia doesn’t exist, gender equality was achieved 3000 B.C., and so on), or just divorce it from our world entirely. I like high and low fantasy and everything in-between, Tolkien-esque fantasy or fantasy based in completely different mythologies and traditions. For historical or pseudo-historical fantasy settings, I’m especially into Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Celtic Ireland, the European Middle Ages, the Italian Renaissance, general Age-of-Sail type stuff, Regency and Victorian England, Feudal Japan, and the Classic Period Maya. But seriously, if there’s something else you like or know about, go for it, even (or especially!) if it’s maybe not something one sees often as settings for tropey slash.

For Science Fiction, I basically love all types. I enjoy the sleek, 1950s inspired looks of gleaming white utopias (with or without adjacent seedy underbelly), cyberpunk ruled by evil megacorporations full of androids and hackers and augmentations, steampunk with air ships that sail the whole universe or the more grungy variation that is all about cranking the dirt and squalor of 19th century industrialisation up, hard-boiled military SF, or even comparatively mild “we invented space travel/aliens uplifted us and now we’re part of the interstellar alien community” stuff. You can also mix fantasy and science fiction, with magic spaceships and kings that lead galactic federations and such. I also enjoy post-apocalyptic wastelands, but I’d prefer some first tendrils of society to have already emerged again, should you go past the end times.

And then of course there’s the good old everyday modern world. I have to admit I’m not super interested in mundane modern stuff and most of the pairings I chose probably don’t work too well with it, but I really like urban fantasy with magic and werewolves and vampires, or “our world, but we met aliens/elves decades or centuries ago and now they work alongside you at the office” or something along those lines. Also, feel free to write everyday stuff like meet-cutes or other sweet/low-stakes plots like that in crazy sci-fi or fantasy settings, I like that a lot, too!

Male Human/Male Last Member of an Alien Species That Can Get Mpregnant By Any Species

This has potential to go a lot of ways. How did the alien become the last of his kind? Is it something he grew up with or did whatever wiped out all the others happen recently? Or maybe he was in some sort of stasis for hundreds or thousands of years and was just recently thawed and had to deal with the loss of everyone? Is he someone who had shelved the idea of his species ever returning but then fell in love and thought about kids? Or maybe he is actively looking to repopulate and it starts as a practical arrangement for reproduction with the human and turns into more? And what about the human’s intentions? How did he get to know the alien? How did he fall in love? If it starts out as a pragmatic thing to him, too, what are his motivations for fathering children this way? And will the kids have any human features or is this a species that takes the seed from others and produces only its own kind? You could go before, during, or after the pregnancy here, all phases would be interesting.

I love all sorts of sci-fi, from hard military to cyberpunk and steampunk to science fantasy. Generally, for pairings I prefer aliens who looks vaguely human: bipedal, some recognisable facial features, genitalia that’s somewhat equivalent, though the alien could be an hermaphrodite (in human terms) and/or from a species that looks closer to male humans and thus tends to be viewed as male by humans, but is actually monosex (if you want some visual direction, the playable species of SWTOR or the companions in Mass Effect would all be totally within range of not being too inhuman for my tastes). If you’d rather go with the true-and-tried ‘human but green’ trope from old sci-fi TV series, that would also be super fun. Pregnancy can be human-type or eggpreg. I would love bottom alien for smut if it comes to that.

Maybe someone, possibly someone who took part in wiping out the rest of the alien’s people, has vested interest in the alien not getting to give birth to children. The alien and the human have to get themselves to safety.

I could also see the alien being a jaded soldier/mercenary type who accidentally gets pregnant and now has to try to fit that into his life somehow. Is the human the same type of person or someone from a very different strata of society? How do they handle this?

Maybe the human is a soldier/mercenary/other type of person who might wander around destroyed planets who finds the alien hiding somewhere from the total destruction that wiped out everyone else and they have adventures and fall in love.

The alien hired the human or otherwise made some deal with him to get his genes to have kids. The human didn’t think it’d be any more complicated than that, neither did the alien. They didn’t count on getting along so well.

The human was hired to do this by the alien and agreed because he had debts to pay. Against his will, the alien gets pulled into the human’s story (where did he get those debts?) and suddenly it’s not just business anymore.

The alien has resigned himself to the end of his species, but him and the human find out by accident that yes, humans also count among those who can impregnate this alien species.

The human is an archaeologists who frees the alien, found among the forgotten relics of an ancient civilisation, from his stasis. They get closer as the human helps him to adjust to the world. Alternatively, maybe it’s someone who just works at the dig site/archaeological facility, like a security guard or someone from the cleaning service, who makes a connection where the researchers couldn’t.

The human and the alien have a meet-cute and get to know each other the normal way. Maybe the human is a simple guy who isn’t into intergalactic politics and all that and doesn’t even realise that he’s basically speaking to a unicorn until someone points it out (the alien probably just wanted to talk about something else than his sad, lonely, last-of-a-kind situation for once and was happy to have a friend/boyfriend who just generally seemed to like him).

They just wanted to sleep together to make kids due to an arrangement between thenm. They didn’t expect it to be this hot.

This alien species has better hormone balance during pregnancy if there are frequent sexual encounters. He asks the human if he’d help out with that, too, and the human is very willing.

They’re a couple or FWB when they decide to get pregnant and have some very enthusiastic sexual encounters involving impregnation kink.

If they have never been with someone of their respective species, the human and the alien exploring each other’s anatomy would be fun.

The alien and the human are pining like a forest while pretending that this thing between them was totally just business.

The pregnancy was an accident for an alien and human who were just FWB, but there are other feelings which have developed as well.

The pregnancy is hard on the alien. The human, who just thought he’d be around for the sperm donation, finds himself caring way too much.

The human gets hurt for helping the alien procreate by people who wanted to erase the alien’s species. The alien (if he’s a soldier/mercenary type) shows them that being pregnant doesn’t stop him from protecting people he cares about.

The alien dealing emotionally with possibly not being the last anymore and the human helping along would be interesting.

Pregnancy fluff is absolutely appreciated here.

If this alien is a “thawed out after many years” type of last survivor, it would be fun for the human to show him the new world and learn about the alien’s people, too.

A more hardened set of alien and human (soldiers/mercenaries/etc.) getting to slow down a bit and enjoy civilian life during the pregnancy would be great.

For Art: Any of the above prompts would be great. I’d love to see a portrayal of the alien and human together! What do they look like? Kissing and cuddling as well as the human maybe touching the bump would also be sweet (also, or maybe even especially, if this is the rougher kind of human, so soldier/mercenary etc.). The two of them running from or fighting against people who’d rather see the alien’s species entirely extinct would be great, too. The two of them in bed together (producing the kid, or just lazing around) or just hanging out together if they already knew each other would be fun as well. If you’d like to draw the aftermath of the pregnancy, I’d like to see what cute alien (or human/alien hybrid) baby they produced.

Male Human Intergalactic Emperor/Male Alien General Who Can Get Mpregnant

I love settings that connect sci-fi with fantasy/historical elements, which having an Emperor for an intergalactic empire suggests, so this prompt was always for me. Is this a hereditary position or was he voted in? Or maybe he is the one who united the empire in the first place? Is his empire comprised only of humans or does it already have many species? And who is the General? Have the humans only just met his species or have they known of each other/cooperated for many years? Were or are they at war? Is this meant to connect two powerful intergalactic forces via arranged marriage, or did the Emperor fall hopelessly in love with someone who is maybe much beneath his station? Is the General part of the Emperor’s own forces or someone else’s? Will the kids be hybrids or is this a species that takes the seed from others and produces only its own kind? Or perhaps they instead produce something that looks much more like the other father and thus seems entirely human? The story doesn’t have to be about the mpregnancy aspect at all, though. The General’s ability could just be a reason that the alien was considered as the Emperor’s spouse because he can continue his line.

For arranged marriage between these two, it’d be great to see how the choice was made and how they get to know each other. Do they have a chance to build a relationship before the wedding, or is their wedding day the first time they really meet?

The emperor gets lost in hostile territory, but a brave General (of his own forces, or an allied army, or perhaps just of the local militia) saves his life. Does the General even realise whom he saved? And how does the Emperor handle it once they are back on safe ground?

Is the General a high-ranking military man whose heroics and general talents have made him fit to be the Emperor’s husband? Was it these heroics through which they met?

As above, but maybe the General also uses his influence for political gain and him and the Emperor have often found themselves debating in the senate (or whatever other council there is)? Did they perhaps even start out as rivals before they got close?

Similarly, it’d be interesting if the General was from a smaller nation’s army or some planet’s local military and possibly several social strata under the Emperor, but the Emperor falls for him, anyway.

If the General works as an ambassador or is one of the Emperor’s own men, maybe this is a friends-to-lovers situation where the two of them already knew each other very well?

Maybe the Emperor and the General sleep together and meet again after quite some time, and the General is heavily pregnant or has a newborn with him... General didn’t want to be seen as grasping for power, so he wasn’t sure how to bring it up. Where does it go from here?

I love me some battle couples, so the Emperor and General fighting a dangerous foe together would be awesome. Maybe that’s how they get closer? Or maybe that’s just what leads to them having really amazing adrenaline-fuelled sex.

Similarly, working together as a couple could also be about them taking on a political enemy or navigating a tricky situation at court together.

For an arranged marriage fic, the baby/egg is stolen by hostile forces. So far, they had probably pined a little for each other but not really managed to really connect, but working together to save their kid brings them closer (I wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to the baby/egg here, though – well, aside from the kidnapping itself).

However, it would also be interesting if the Emperor was not the fighter type. Maybe the General saves him from something/someone? If you want to go for mpreg, does the General get antsy having to be out of commission while he’s carrying the child?

If the General is from an alien species that has only had cursory or hostile contact with humans so far, it would be interesting to see them navigate their cultural (and possibly also biological) differences.

If you wanna go for smut, their first time might be fun! It would be interesting if one of them (or both of them) has not slept with a member of the other species before and get to explore. However, I’m also always here for sex between partners who know each other well and know what buttons to press. I would also love to see them vigorously working at making that heir, or trying to work around the General being very pregnant at a later stage.

For Art: Any of the above prompts would be great. I’d love to see a picture of the alien and human together! What do they look like? I’d also love to see the space Emperor and General in fancy ceremonial clothing. The two of them passionately discussing at a council meeting or fighting together on a battlefield (or during a space battle in the cockpit?) would be awesome, too. Jaded Warrior King/The Charming Prince Who Is His Betrothed

I like the implications of this tag a lot. Maybe a Jaded Warrior King might initially not feel like he has much in common with a Charming Prince, nor will he be ready to get wrapped around his little finger. However, the Charming Prince has his special ability in his name and I’m sure he has a few tricks up his sleeve to get the King to pay attention to him.

For the Jaded Warrior King, I would prefer someone over 30 years of age, who has had quite a few years to gather experience and generally collect reasons to grow jaded. I’d also like him not to be a totally needlessly expansionist Warrior King who solely wants to raze and conquer. Maybe in his culture being a warrior is just sort of the default, especially for nobles, or he’s had to defend his country in many and/or long wars. For the Charming Prince, someone 25 or older would be great. Does he come from the same or an equally warlike culture or is he maybe from a place where courtly manners are prized higher?

For smut, I would prefer the Jaded Warrior King to bottom. For mpreg, I would prefer pregnant Jaded Warrior King.

How did this betrothal come about? Maybe the King is trying to make peace with a contentious other kingdom, or making an alliance to help him in another conflict? Or perhaps this betrothal was sort of forced on him by his advisors because he’s old enough that they think he needs to get married and have children. (Whether this is by mpreg, or whether it is considered common in their culture to have a second parent in the house before you start adopting heirs.) Or hell, maybe the Prince’s parents have the King at knifepoint and are basically forcing the Prince on him in return for not starting trouble because they really want the connection.

In what way is the King jaded? He’s a warrior, so he probably has seen a lot of battle and that may have left him with PTSD and/or a dim view on humanity. Has he maybe already lost a husband in battle or otherwise? Or he was married before, but it was an abusive/otherwise unhappy relationship (the King being nonconned would be fine to include here if you want to, but could also be that his husband was otherwise violent, cheated on him a lot, etc.)? Maybe his own friends or family members tried to betray him, or his siblings tried to kill each other in a bloody war for the throne that shook his trust in people he loves to the core, and he was left to pick up the pieces of a country ravaged by civil war? There are many possibilities!

What about the Prince? Does being charming come naturally to him and he’s just a very bright, likable person? Or is he a shrewd courtier? Or maybe a bit of both? Maybe he’s way down the line for inheritance and very soberly figured he would have to be as agreeable as he can be to get a good marriage? And is he excited for this marriage, or does the King maybe have a reputation for being unapproachable that made the Prince hesitant?

How does it go once the Prince is at his court? How does he work his way through the King’s armour? Does he manage to crack him with his charm, or is it perhaps something totally different that first starts to interest the King about him? And what good traits does the Prince start seeing in the King, despite his hard shell?

The King and his Prince husband fighting together, or, if the Prince is not a fighter, the King protecting him from an assassin or something (and maybe getting hurt in the process) would be awesome. Generally, the King impressing the Prince with his fighting skills sounds great.

I would love smut between them. Maybe the King isn’t quite used to having an attentive lover anymore and the Prince makes good use of that advantage. And maybe once the King has melted a bit, he really starts to get into their time together, too?

Or maybe they have trouble connecting anywhere at the start... except in bed. What does that look like? And how does it go from there?

The King being a bit of a workaholic and the Prince reminding him of the pleasures of life in general would be sweet.

If the Prince was of the ‘superfluous 7th son’ sort, I’d love to see him getting to develop his talents at the King’s court, since maybe back at home they weren’t really properly appreciated. Maybe the King, being less touched by his charm, actually notices his other skills quicker than other people do, too? (Maybe it’s even something the Prince had already given up on, since he pegs himself as just being the charming one, but that the King recognises he’d be very good at.)

The Prince helps the King out in a political situation and the King shows him his gratitude (in a romantic or smutty way).

The Prince earning the King’s trust somehow – protecting him from an attack with his life, revealing a traitor in the King’s ranks, etc.

Maybe the King really comes to enjoy the Prince’s charm, too, even though he’s not sure what the Prince sees in him, since he’s not all that charming himself. The Prince is quite honestly enamoured with the King’s good qualities, though.

For Art: Any of the above prompts would be great. I’d definitely also enjoy a picture of the Prince and the King together in their full outfits. Do they have different styles of clothing in their respective home kingdoms? Maybe the King wears mostly armour and the Prince is in fine silks? I’d also love a picture of them relaxing after a long day, just having supper or maybe even cuddling. Maybe the Prince helps dress a wound that the King says is not serious enough for the healers? I’d also love to see a kiss or hug between them – maybe the Prince surprises the King with it? (Hugs from behind are also Good Content.) And, of course, the two of them being a battle couple or just on the battlefield together in armour would be awesome, too.

King/Male General Who Can Get Mpregnant

This pairing could be anything from relationship drama to pregnancy fluff to political intrigue to battlefield narrative, or all of the above, or something completely different! Who is the King? Is he new to throne or has he had the crown for a long while? Is he the honourable philosopher-king type, a proud warrior, a schemer nimbly navigating court politics, etc.? And what about the General? Is he a young hero everyone is looking up to or an older, scarred knight? Does he come from noble stock or is he lowborn? And is he even the King’s general or does he come from another kingdom? For smut, I would prefer the General to bottom.

I always love me some Friends-to-Lovers pining. Maybe the King and the General have been friends for a long time but neither dares to make the next step for fear of ruining their friendship?

Maybe the General is from a different kingdom and was sent to the King as an ambassador-slash-political hostage as part of a peace treaty. The two of them did not expect to get along so well (maybe they have even clashed on the battlefield), but they do.

The General doesn’t come from an important enough family to be marrying into royalty, but he and the King fell in love, anyway. Does the King insist on marrying him? Or does the General get pregnant and the King jumps on the excuse to propose? Is the General worried the King is just doing it to be honourable?

For a fantasy setting, maybe the King needs an heir by blood, so even though the General loves him and knows the King loves him back, he realises eventually the King will have to marry. Desperate for a solution, he finds a witch/god(dess)/other magical person or creature and lets himself be given the ability to carry children. What is the price? Would love this to have a happy ending without stolen firstborns and such, but if he has to give a hand for it or something, well, so be it. Or maybe the magical person/creature needs a task done and the story could be about the General and King going on that adventure?

However, arranged marriage is always fun, too. Maybe the General and the King were arranged to marry by the King’s parents long ago, but the General was busy fighting at a remote flank of a war and hasn’t been back at court until now?

The King and the General fighting a battle together would be great. Is the King a great warrior and/or strategist in his own right or is he just at the front of the armies because it’s expected? Does the General protect him and/or help him with strategies? Maybe this is how they meet and/or get closer?

The King and the General manoeuvring court intrigue would also be a lot of fun.

Maybe the General comes from a smaller, mostly autonomous group within the King’s kingdom (something like old mountain clans, dwarven settlement, elven enclave, and so on) and is a bit of a political leader in his own right. How does this shift their relationship? How do they fall in love?

I’m also here for family fluff, so if you want to go post-pregnancy (or pregnancies) and write about them with their kid(s), that would be great.

If you wanna go for smut, their first time might be fun! However, I’m also always here for sex between partners who know each other well and know what buttons to press. I would also love to see them vigorously working at making that heir, or trying to work around the General being very pregnant at a later stage.

Putting these two together since they’re similar prompts. Who is the Lighthousekeeper? It tends to be a pretty lonely job. Was he basically banished there or did he choose it himself? If he went there willingly, was he always a loner or is he jaded for some reason? Or maybe this is a lighthouse that’s pretty close to a city or village and we see the Lighthousekeeper’s friends, too? And what about the Merman? Is he alone or is there a whole merpeople kingdom down on the ocean ground? I love all types of mermen, from the super pretty ones with long glittering swishy fishtails to ones that could come from horror movies. He could also be a merman who more resembles a shark or even an octopus or something else a bit out of left field. Whatever you find most interesting!

I love the whole classical aesthetic that could go with these prompts, stormy grey beaches and the wind blowing in the old lighthouse and a lonely keeper wandering the rocky coast, all that stuff. If any of that makes it into the story, I’d be thrilled. However, I’d also be very interested to hear about a lighthouse on a warmer coast, maybe in the Caribbean, Africa, or Greece. And, of course, it doesn’t have to be a lighthouse in an actual existent country at all. If this is a fantasy story, maybe merpeople are an expected part of the job?

Did the Merman get hurt by humans, maybe hunted for his pretty fins or accidentally caught by fishermen, or was he left stranded on a sunny day by a huge wave? Or was it other merpeople who hurt him?

What happened to the Lighthousekeeper if he’s the one saved? He is probably quite a good swimmer with that job, but maybe a storm toppled his boat or something? Maybe someone actually tried to kill him and dropped the body into the sea?

Is the Lighthousekeeper a loner and only slowly starts to warm up to the Merman? Or is he smitten immediately?

Do humans and merpeople know of each other’s existence and interact frequently – maybe the Lighthousekeeper has to deal with the Merman’s whole family and friends? Or do merpeople not usually reveal themselves to humans and are myths, or at the very least known to be very reclusive?

What did the love confession between these two look like?

Can they only have sex in the water or at the beach or does the Merman have some way to survive on land for longer periods of time? Would love something about them figuring out each other’s anatomy here. The Lighthousekeeper probably hasn’t slept with a merman before (or has he?), but is it the Merman’s first experience with a human? Or maybe the Merman playfully drags the keeper off his boat at some point to pretend-ravish him like the dangerous sea creature he is (maybe there’s legends about merpeople doing that sort of thing).

I’d love a story about the Merman and the Lighthousekeeper deep into an established friendship or even relationship, too. What are the little things they do for each other? Maybe the keeper brings the Merman some human food he likes whenever he can. Maybe the Merman drives the cute seals to the shore for the Lighthousekeeper to watch.

The Merman and the Lighthousekeeper work together saving humans/boats who are lost or shipwrecked out on the sea close to the lighthouse (if merpeople aren’t known, the keeper later tells the rescued humans they must have imagined that fish-tailed man they figured they saw).

For Art:Any of the above prompts would be fun. I’d also just love a picture of the two of them together, since I’m sure one could have a lot of fun designing a pretty (or horrific! Or simply interesting-looking) merman. The Lighthousekeeper and the Merman swimming together would be fun. I’d also love the classic pose where the human sits on a dock or rock at the seaside and the merman is reaching up out of the water or has his arms folded on land and is kinda hanging out there as they talk or kiss. And, of course, the rescue itself could make for a very dramatic picture.

Younger Male Ancient Roman Patrician/Older Male Ancient Roman Gladiator

A lot of possibilities here! I’d love it if the Patrician were at least in his mid-twenties, but he can also be much older as long as their age gap remains. Is he still an upstart, some third son or someone from a lesser patrician family clawing his way up? Or has he already managed to build up his legacy, or came from a very prestigious house to begin with? And what about the Gladiator? Did he sell himself into service? Was he convicted and sent there or is he even a captive from the wars? Is he an undisputed champion of many years or has he always just managed to keep himself alive?

Does the Patrician hire the gladiator as a bodyguard or entertainment for show fights at his house and their relationship goes from there? Or does he buy him for more intimate services? (In this case, I’d like the Gladiator to agree to it.) Does he take him into his household or does the Gladiator remain within his ludus? And how do they fall in love?

Feel free to be as historically accurate as you’d like. If that’s your thing, great! If not, I’m here for everything, including ancient Rome with magic or in space, or pseudo-ancient Rome from a totally different world or timeline, or with changes such as “same-sex marriages are allowed”. This also doesn’t have to happen in Rome itself, it could happen all over the Ancient Roman empire.

Gladiators were often hired as bodyguards. Who is the Patrician feuding with? Or maybe he just hired this successful gladiator to trail behind him to show off, but suddenly there is an actual attack and the Gladiator has to defend them.

Apparently, some Romans also used Gladiators to teach them how to fight. Sparring between these two would be fun. Maybe they get to put the skills to good use in an attack, too?

The Gladiator planned to just follow behind the Patrician and not pay much attention to anything not concerning him, as he usually does when somebody hires him as a bodyguard, but finds himself getting draw into the Patrician’s world.

The Patrician hired the Gladiator because he thought he was attractive and a roll in the hay would be fun. He did not expect to fall for him.

The Gladiator started out thinking the Patrician is just some snooty noble. He finds himself liking him more than he wants to.

The Gladiator is brought out of the ludus to live in the Patrician’s household after the Patrician buys him. Being older and having had young challengers snapping at his heels for a while now, he’s keenly aware this probably protected him from a death in the arena. His gratitude turns into more, but the Patrician is wary at first that the Gladiator might just be trying to pay him back with sex/affection.

The Gladiator is a favourite for show matches after expensive dinners in noble houses. The Patrician and him get to talking after one of them and find that despite the many social strata between them, they like each other.

The Patrician hires the Gladiator to sleep with him and the Gladiator thinks it’s an easier job than risking his hide to protect some Patrician as a bodyguard, so why not? To his own surprise, the Gladiator enjoys the sex, too.

Maybe the Gladiator expected to top the patrician because if the Patrician wanted to top someone, why not just go to a whorehouse? But the Patrician has his own ideas and the Gladiator finds himself rather enjoying being fucked.

Or maybe the Patrician is a very highly regarded man who would not take his wish to be fucked to anyone who people would listen to if they spread gossip, so he hired the Gladiator.

Maybe sex is not what the Gladiator was hired to do at all and they just end up in bed together regardless.

The Patrician is not the only one who had the idea to pay the Gladiator for sex. Eventually, he puts the Gladiator on the spot and says he’ll buy him to have him for himself because he can’t bear sharing anymore. The Gladiator agrees to it.

The Patrician is in love with the Gladiator. He buys him and immediately frees him. The Gladiator stays by his side.

The Patrician hired the Gladiator, but never thought to buy him (and when he falls for him, he really doesn’t want to because that would be putting temptation right under his nose/maybe also because he knows the Gladiator would not appreciate being his slave). Then the Gladiator has a really close fight and gets badly hurt. The Patrician realises he’s going to pay any price to not have to watch something like that again.

The Patrician doing scheming while the Gladiator trails behind him as his bodyguard and comments on patrician society would be funny.

The Patrician watching the gladiator dominate in the arena and playing his generous patron for the masses and afterwards taking him home for a more intimate reward.

The two of them settling into life at the Patrician’s estate after the Gladiator has spent many years at the ludus could be interesting.
