Alternative Universe Exchange 2019
Jul. 5th, 2019 04:34 pmDear AU Exchange Writer,
I'm
greygerbil on AO3, thank you for writing for me! Right from the start, I want to say you don’t have to do anything with my prompts, they’re just there in case you want some ideas. If it has my pairing and avoids my DNWs, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it! All ratings are great. I included a list of my general likes and smut likes which apply to all my requests. When it comes to kinks, you can include anything not listed under my DNWs; point to this part of the letter if someone asked if I opted in, I like a lot of stuff.
Feel free to entirely erase the existence of canon relationships or break them up if they get in the way of the pairings I requested (hey, it goes with the AU theme!), whichever works best with what you’re trying to do.
Fic where the couple is not yet together but clearly in love, or on the road to getting together, or having their first time kissing/in bed together are great. However, so are established relationship fics. Whatever suits your ideas!
Some prompts may read like ideas for longer fics, but if you’re interested in them, please just grab a scene with the general idea out of the middle of those hypothetical longfics and write me that! I love fic of all length and don’t want anyone to feel like they have to go above the minimum word count. I just get excited writing prompts sometimes, heh.
Considering the number of canons I have where you slaughter your way through untold heaps of NPCs, I should also point out I generally have no problem with gore, blood, and graphic violence.

Alexios/Brasidas
Brasidas was amazing and the romance option of my heart and you can’t convince me he shouldn’t have been one. I love these two as a battle couple (that tag team fight!), but I also like that Brasidas is one of the few Spartans who doesn’t jump to warfare and murder as the first and only solution to all problems. I write mostly with protagonist!Alexios in mind, but feel free to rearrange the plots so they work for Deimos!Alexios, I like him, too. For smut, I prefer bottom Brasidas.

Alexios/Stentor
Alexios and Stentor have such a deliciously complicated relationship. Stentor is obviously threatened by Alexios’ presence and Alexios is probably jealous that Stentor got to have Nikolaos as a father whereas Alexios got to be shoved off a mountain. However, considering how attached Stentor is to Nikolaos, I doubt he has any birth family that cares about him, either. He and Alexios eventually might find themselves unexpectedly able to bond over some things. They also would make a great battle couple and their verbal and physical sparring is a lot of fun. I write mostly with protagonist!Alexios in mind, but feel free to rearrange the plots so they work for Deimos!Alexios, I like him, too. For smut, I prefer bottom Stentor.

Alexios needs all the sexy Spartan men, and why not at once? I feel like this could be either a hot threesome, or, if you’re so inclined, a really interesting triad relationship (which would likely take a lot of scenes to set up, so feel free to just jump into the middle of it, or insinuate it might happen sometime in the future). Brasidas being a popular Spartan general would almost certainly have met the hand-picked adopted son of the Wolf before, after all, and they both have quite interesting relationships with Alexios. For smut, I prefer bottom Stentor and don't have a strong preference between the other two.

Okay, I can’t help it, these two are just really cute together and I would seriously be happy for anything involving them. They keep by your side throughout the whole story and loud, exuberant Barnabas makes such a great contrast to quiet, more subdued Herodotos. They spend a lot of time together on Alexios’ ship and seem to get along pretty well, even though they obviously banter a bit and have different views on many things. For smut, I prefer bottom Herodotos.

I love Haytham and Charles, villains who really respect and like each other and stand behind their idea of a world of order being what is needed for humanity where they guide the rest of us stupid sheeple humans to a better future, lol. I immensely enjoy young Charles’ senpai-notice-me dynamic with Haytham and his adoration for him; but I also love that eventually it goes both ways, when Charles becomes Haytham’s trusted second-in-command. For smut, I prefer bottom Charles.

Fitzwilliam Darcy/Charles Bingley
Bingley and Darcy have such a great relationship in the novel and obviously are already very fond of each other, so it shouldn’t be difficult to push that a little further. (This could be pre-canon or canon divergence, but I’d rather the women they end up married to in canon were not in the story as their lovers.) For smut, I prefer bottom Bingley.

Stannis Baratheon/Davos Seaworth
The stern, duty-bound lord, the knight with the undying loyalty who despite that does not fear to tell him the truth and is valued for this quality... what is there not to love about these two? I’ll never get tired of the fanfic and I’m always happy to have more. I know it’s pretty difficult to avoid my cheating DNW while staying in the canon timeline here, so feel free to handwave their marriages away (annulled? they were widowed? divorce is allowed in Westeros? the wives have their own lovers and/or they are separated, if still married in law?) or have them never happen. For smut, I prefer bottom Davos.

I’m another one of these people whose teenage love for the book couple was reignited by the new adaption. I just think they’re absolutely adorable and would love a story set in any point of the timeline, from the beginning of the world to the post-Notpocalypse. For smut, I prefer bottom Aziraphale (he can have male genitalia or female or switch it around, all is fine).

Male Shepard/Javik
Javik is possibly my favourite companion in ME3 and I love his interactions with Shepard. He’s so abrasive, but the longer you talk to him, the more you realise that the glorious Prothean empire they taught them about when he was born was really already a long lost memory in ruins and he lived his whole life in a total dystopian nightmare, only to wake up to the next apocalypse. I like Default Shepard just fine, but feel free to make him look different and give him a different first name if it fits the cultural background he has in your fic better. Paragon, Renegade or Paragade/Renegon (mix-and-match choices) all work, too. As for the Endings… you know, whichever one you like! I’m not really attached to any of them and I’d also be totally fine with the blunt idea of the Crucible just being a big Reaper-targeting gun if that suits your story better. For smut, I prefer bottom Javik.

Jonathan Reid/Sean Hampton
Sean is the love interest I wanted! I enjoy how gentle and meek he is, but also how he obviously has a lot of courage and a stubborn head of his own. Meanwhile, Jonathan cares about people, but is a very good protagonist in that he seems always ready to push his own will through. Plus, they are both caretakers (who are also people-eating monsters) in their own right. I can see everything from tooth-rotting fluff to the two of them solving crimes and helping people together to even them getting into an argument over something they are at odds about and having to resolve that somehow. For smut, I prefer bottom Sean.

Assassin’s Creed (Alexios/Brasidas)
Alexios/Brasidas
Brasidas was amazing and the romance option of my heart and you can’t convince me he shouldn’t have been one. I love these two as a battle couple (that tag team fight!), but I also like that Brasidas is one of the few Spartans who doesn’t jump to warfare and murder as the first and only solution to all problems. I write mostly with protagonist!Alexios in mind, but feel free to rearrange the plots so they work for Deimos!Alexios, I like him, too. For smut, I prefer bottom Brasidas.
AC: Brasidas survives
- So this is more of a general AU I’d like if you are in that part of the timeline, to escape my requested character death DNW. Maybe Brasidas doesn’t take part in the fight, maybe he doesn’t meet Deimos, maybe he does get hit but is only grievously wounded. Would be a good opportunity for some hurt/comfort with Alexios, or maybe some spilled secrets of attraction! Does Brasidas heal or does the fight leave him with lasting damage?
- Maybe Brasidas doesn’t survive, but Alexios goes to Hades and gets him back, anyway (whether it’s the Hades we see in the DLC or a different Isu version or a mythological one).
AC: Alexios|Kassandra and Deimos are demi-gods
AC: The Isu don't exist but Greek mythology does
- These two prompts could go together but don’t have to, since the Isu are pretty much gods, too, and this would just mean that the Isu taint is even more immediate in them. If they are the children of an Isu, or even have ties to several, which one(s)? If they are the children of literal mythological gods, how does that change things? Do they have powers, boons, powerful relatives who favour or hate them? How does Brasidas react to all this divinity suddenly in his life?
- Zeus seems like a likely culprit at least in the older kid’s case, considering the vaguely magic eagle and everything. Does Hera try to chase Alexios down? Maybe kidnap his lover Brasidas?
AC: Alexios|Kassandra is an eagle shifter
ALL: Accidental Shapeshifter Marriage Due to Unknowing Theft of Animal Skin
- Is Alexios Ikaros? It would explain how Ikaros can so easily transmit information to him. How does Brasidas find out?
- Maybe Alexios isn’t Ikaros, he just feels drawn to eagles as pets because he is himself a shifter (or Ikaros is a shifter who doesn’t like being/can’t be human anymore). That would still be quite the revelation for Brasidas.
- The shapeshifter from the marriage prompt could be either Alexios or Brasidas (what animal would Brasidas be? Is Alexios an eagle or something else?). Either one of them finds the pelt/plumage/whatever of the other and thus accidentally binds them into a marriage. Of course, the shifter already was romantically interested in their friend regardless. How does the person who accidentally stole the animal skin find out? Are they worried their lover is with them only out of obligation?
- For another AU, maybe one of them finding the pelt/plumage/etc. of the other is how they meet. Is the one who found the animal skin worried their whole friendship and love was based on a lie and accidental coercion?
ALL: Mpreg is common AU
ALL: Mpreg is rare AU
- So basically, mpreg! Would prefer pregnant Brasidas here. Whether it’s common in the world, or only a biological quirk some few men’s bodies have, or even something only possible due to the Isu taint (or Alexios’ godly nature, if you’re not going with Isu), all is great. How do the two handle having a baby? Was it a decision or an accident? Is the Cult of Kosmos trying to get the kid? Does Alexios know of the pregnancy, or are they separated for a while and then Brasidas suddenly had a baby with him?
ALL: Dating a Single Parent AU
- Alexios canonically has a son, but you can also go with him having a kid from one of his romps around ancient Greece. Maybe he decides to raise his child despite the dangers of the Cult. Or maybe Brasidas has a kid, out of wedlock or as a result of a marriage that broke apart/left him widowed, or because Brasidas got pregnant by some dude who is not around. In Brasidas’ case, I suppose the child could already be older, too.
ALL: Arranged Marriage AU
ALL: Same-sex marriage possible in homophobia-free AU of canon time period
ALL: Secret Marriage
- I just want them to marry, whether it’s officially allowed or a ceremony they perform only for each other. Bonus for obscure Spartan or Kephallonian marriage/courting costums (feel free to make some up).
- Spartan marriage included ritual kidnapping. Who snatches who?
- If it’s a secret marriage, why? Are two men not allowed to marry? Or is Alexios worried that this could draw the Cult’s attention down on Brasidas? Or are they just private?
- How does Alexios’ family react when Alexios and Brasidas announce they’ll be married?
- If the marriage is arranged, who arranged the arranged marriage? Maybe the king has decided Alexios must marry to regain Spartan citizenship and Brasidas is way too old to be unmarried, anyway (30 years was the cut-off in Sparta, after that you were late). But I’ll be happy with any other scenario, too! Have Alexios and Brasidas ever considered being in a relationship before? How do they navigate their marriage? Is there pining as both think the other is just here out of obligation? Were they already together, anyway? Were they not and thought they’d navigate this as friends, but the wedding night is mind-blowing and suddenly they’re contemplating the idea for the first time?
ALL: High Fantasy AU
- Everything is the same as in usual AC: Odyssey, but now we have a real RPG skill-tree – with magic! Whether only Alexios can wield magic powers, or only select people can, or a great majority has some sort of magical power, I’m here for it. What powers do Alexios and Brasidas have? Maybe they are complimentary in battle? Do people choose their magic education or are they born with certain talents? Also, what about mythical creatures and such? Do Spartans and Athenians ride to battle on pegasi? Are giant krakens a common problem the Adrestia has to face?
ALL: Soulmate AU
- I love all sorts of Soulmate AUs – whether it’s played straight where the pairing finds out they’re soulmates, or whether it’s the version where characters rebel against their fate and choose each other despite what destiny says (if you go for that version, I’d rather their actual soulmate wasn’t Stentor, since I also ship him with both dudes and it’d get distracting, but all other characters or OCs are fair game).
- I’m also interested in all sorts of soulmate varieties: soulmate marks, first words to soulmate written on the skin, can only see colour once you’ve met your soulmate, innate emotional connection from when they meet or since forever, or whatever else you can come up with.
Assassin’s Creed (Alexios/Stentor)
ALL: Different first meeting
- Maybe Alexios and Stentor met before Megaris without knowing what connection they have to each other and had an affair/heavy flirting going on. What happens when they realise they are “brothers”?
- Stentor was thrown overboard in a storm/fight with the Athenians. He washes ashore in Kephallonia. Alexios finds him, or meets him later when Stentor is trying to find a way off the island. How fortunate, Alexios was looking for the same thing…
How does Stentor react to all this divinity suddenly in his life and does it help his jealousy in any way that Alexios is also the son of (insert God/ess here)?
- Zeus seems like a likely culprit at least in the older kid’s case, considering the vaguely magic eagle and everything. Does Hera try to chase Alexios down? Maybe kidnap his lover Stentor?
AC: Alexios|Kassandra is an eagle shifter
AC: Stentor is a cat shifter
AC: Stentor is a catboy
ALL: Accidental Shapeshifter Marriage Due to Unknowing Theft of Animal Skin
- Several of these AUs could be true at the same time (cat Stentor and eagle Alexios go on adventures together?), or it could just be one of them.
- For cat Stentor, he could be either a shifter, or a human with a few animal traits who can also shift fully, or just a real anime style cat boy with some animal features (and maybe senses). Why is it that way? Well, maybe animal traits are rare but just happen sometimes. Maybe he angered (or pleased!) a god(ess). Maybe he was just born that way and it’s an unknown, weak strain of Isu taint. Either way, Alexios can’t stop looking at those ears.
- Alexios’ canonical magical powers include the Beast Master skill. He finds out that it works on cat shifter/catboy Stentor (much to Stentor’s chagrin).
- Is Alexios Ikaros? It would explain how Ikaros can so easily transmit information to him. How does Stentor find out?
- Maybe Alexios isn’t Ikaros, he just feels drawn to eagles as pets because he is himself a shifter (or Ikaros is a shifter who doesn’t like being/can’t be human anymore). That would still be quite the revelation for Stentor.
- Stentor befriends a surprisingly tame eagle, which he figures is someone’s escaped pet or something. However, it’s shifter Alexios being guiltily happy for getting pets and having someone talk nicely to him – all that killing and wandering around alone can take a toll on a man! Besides, he sees a new, less tense side of Stentor when Stentor figures he’s all alone with the eagle and out of earshot of humans. Of course, eventually Stentor realises who the eagle is or Alexios is forced to reveal himself for some reason.
- The shapeshifter in the marriage prompt could be either Alexios or Stentor (and they don’t have to be eagle or cat, could be anything). Either one of them finds the pelt/plumage/whatever of the other and thus accidentally binds them into a marriage. Of course, the shifter already was romantically interested in the other regardless. How does the person who accidentally stole the animal skin find out? Are they worried their lover is with them only out of obligation?
- For another AU, maybe one of them finding the pelt/plumage/etc. of the other is how they meet. How much chaos does this produce when Alexios realises what their connection is? Or when it dawns on Stentor that he is magically compelled to marry the (supposed) murderer of his father? How do they avert total chaos?
ALL: Arranged Marriage AU
ALL: Same-sex marriage possible in homophobia-free AU of canon time period

ALL: Someone else's spouse can be claimed as your own through winning ritual combat

- Who arranged the arranged marriage if it’s arranged? Maybe the king has decided Alexios must marry to regain Spartan citizenship and Stentor as his husband would provide an opportunity to reunite Nikolaos’ family. But I’ll be happy with any other scenario, too! Have Alexios and Stentor ever considered being in a relationship before? How do they navigate their marriage? Is there pining as both think the other is just here out of obligation? Were they already together, anyway? Were they not and thought they’d manage this with gritted teeth, but the wedding night is mind-blowing and suddenly they’re contemplating the idea for the first time?
- Stentor married at some point to obey Spartan customs or because he was arranged to, but it’s a very unhappy marriage to a rather intolerable man. Alexios makes use of an old custom and challenges Stentor’s husband to combat. Does Stentor think it was just to free him from the marriage? Does Alexios pretend it was? Are they now pining? Or were they already crushing on each other but Stentor felt compelled to stay true to his husband out of a sense of Spartan honour?
ALL: Alpha/Beta/Omega
- Stentor as the angriest omega in all of ancient Greece would be a lot of fun (however, him being somehow at peace with his nature would also be interesting, so whichever way you want to write it). I'd love anything about him with Alexios, seriously, so these really are just ideas. Perhaps a sudden unexpected heat can bring him and Alexios closer together? Literally and figuratively, ehm. Or maybe omegas get treated differently/better in warrior-ethos-focused Sparta than they do in the rest of Ancient Greece, so Stentor has quite a bit of independence there, but him and Alexios need to pretend to be bonded on some mission outside the city because Stentor would not be allowed to go certain places/do certain things otherwise (I love pretend relationship turns into real relationship)? Or the Spartan state decides that the alpha who obviously has shown himself worthy of getting a child on the very decorated omega Stentor is Alexios.

Maybe they are complimentary in battle? Do people choose their magic education or are they born with certain talents (how angry would Stentor be if he had turned out to be a healer mage)? Also, what about mythical creatures and such? Do Spartans and Athenians ride to battle on pegasi? Are giant krakens a common problem the Adrestia has to face?
ALL: Soulmate AU
- I love all sorts of Soulmate AUs – whether it’s played straight where the pairing finds out they’re soulmates, or whether it’s the version where characters rebel against their fate and choose each other despite what destiny says (if you go for that version, I’d rather their actual soulmate wasn’t Brasidas, since I also ship him with both dudes and it’d get distracting, but all other characters or OCs are fair game).
- I’m also interested in all sorts of soulmate varieties: soulmate marks, first words to soulmate written on the skin, can only see colour once you’ve met your soulmate, innate emotional connection from when they meet or since forever, or whatever else you can come up with.
Assassin’s Creed (Alexios/Brasidas/Stentor)
Alexios needs all the sexy Spartan men, and why not at once? I feel like this could be either a hot threesome, or, if you’re so inclined, a really interesting triad relationship (which would likely take a lot of scenes to set up, so feel free to just jump into the middle of it, or insinuate it might happen sometime in the future). Brasidas being a popular Spartan general would almost certainly have met the hand-picked adopted son of the Wolf before, after all, and they both have quite interesting relationships with Alexios. For smut, I prefer bottom Stentor and don't have a strong preference between the other two.
AC: Brasidas survives
- So this is more of a general AU I’d like if you are in that part of the timeline to escape my requested character death DNW. Maybe Brasidas doesn’t take part in the fight, maybe he doesn’t meet Deimos, maybe he does get hit but is only grievously wounded. Would be a good opportunity for some hurt/comfort with Alexios and Stentor, or maybe some spilled secrets of attraction! Does Brasidas heal or does the fight leave him with lasting damage?
- Maybe Brasidas doesn’t survive, but Alexios and Stentor go to Hades and gets him back, anyway (whether it’s the Hades we see in the DLC or a different Isu version or a mythological one.)
ALL: Different first meeting
- Maybe Alexios met Stentor and Brasidas in Megaris instead of Stentor and the Wolf, as Nikolaos was urgently needed elsewhere and Brasidas took over as commander. As Alexios follows them around to hopefully eventually meet Nikolaos, he starts to fall in love with them.
- Stentor and Brasidas were on a ship that was shattered in a storm/fight with the Athenians. They wash ashore in Kephallonia. Alexios finds them or meets them later when they are trying to find a way off the island. How fortunate, Alexios was looking for the same thing…
How do Stentor and Brasidas react to all this divinity suddenly in their life?
- Zeus seems like a likely culprit at least in the older kid’s case, considering the vaguely magic eagle and everything. Does Hera try to chase Alexios down? Maybe kidnap his lovers Stentor and Brasidas?
AC: Alexios|Kassandra is an eagle shifter
AC: Stentor is a cat shifter
AC: Stentor is a catboy
ALL: Accidental Shapeshifter Marriage Due to Unknowing Theft of Animal Skin
- Several of these AUs could be true at the same time or it could just be one of them, it would all be fun.
Either way, Brasidas and Alexios sort of want to pet him.
- Is Alexios Ikaros? It would explain how Ikaros can so easily transmit information to him. How do Stentor and Brasidas find out?
- Maybe Alexios isn’t Ikaros, he just feels drawn to eagles as pets because he is himself a shifter (or Ikaros is a shifter who doesn’t like being/can’t be human anymore). That would still be quite the revelation for Stentor and Brasidas.
- The shapeshifter in the marriage prompt could be any of them being any animal. Two of them find the pelt/plumage/whatever of the third. Of course, the shifter already was romantically interested in the others regardless (although they may wonder how they’re supposed to handle the other two sharing the skin… marry them both?). How do the two who accidentally stole the animal skin find out? Are they worried their lover is with them only out of obligation?
ALL: Threesomes are socially ideal form of relationship
ALL: Poly Marriages Possible
ALL: Same-sex marriage possible in homophobia-free AU of canon time period
ALL: Arranged Marriage AU
ALL: Secret Marriage
- I just want them to marry, whether it’s officially allowed or a ceremony they perform only for each other. Bonus for obscure Spartan or Kephallonian marriage/courting costums (feel free to make some up).
- Spartan marriage included ritual kidnapping. Who snatches who with three of them in the running? Were two of them together before and are joined by the third and kidnap him together?
- If it’s a secret marriage, why? Are men not allowed to marry (especially not three of them)? Or is Alexios worried that this could draw the Cult’s attention down on his lovers? Or are they just private?
- How do Myrinne, Nikolaos, and Deimos react when they find out the three will be married?
- Who arranged the arranged marriage if it’s arranged? Maybe the king has decided Alexios must marry to regain Spartan citizenship and three-way marriages are seen as ideal in Sparta, or Alexios is added as Brasidas’ second husband to his existing marriage with Stentor because Brasidas is a great general who obviously cares for Alexios. Or he decides Brasidas should be added to the existing Alexios/Stentor marriage because Brasidas is too old not to be married and Nikolaos’ two sons would make a great reward for his successes. But I’ll be happy with any other scenario, too! Have Alexios, Brasidas, and Stentor ever considered being in a relationship before? How do they navigate their marriage? Is there pining as all of them, or some of them think the other(s) are here out of obligation? Were they already together, anyway? Were they not and thought they’d manage this with gritted teeth, but the wedding night is mind-blowing and suddenly they’re contemplating the idea for the first time?
- Stentor and Brasidas are married, but are still looking for the third, since three is considered the ideal number of partners for a marriage. Suddenly, Alexios shows up and, as we know, hits it off beautifully with Brasidas – but how do they bring Stentor around?
- Brasidas and Alexios got married. After Boeotia, they start spending some time around Stentor and think he’d make an excellent third to complete the marriage.
- Alexios and Stentor are married, but both also have a bit of a crush on Brasidas, which they eventually confess to each other. They work to bring him into the marriage as their third.
ALL: Alpha/Beta/Omega
- I love omega Stentor (just because you know he’d hate it). For the others, alpha or beta would both work. Maybe this is a world where three-way relationships are considered ideal? So that there are always an omega, a beta, and an alpha? Or maybe Alexios and Brasidas are both alphas and fell in love regardless and Stentor wonders if they keep him around just to tick the box for biological urges (but Alexios and Brasidas were doing just fine with that without an omega, actually, that’s not the reason)? Maybe they’re both betas, but Stentor still loves them and knows he can rely on them to find work-arounds to help him with the heat.
ALL: Mpreg is common AU
ALL: Mpreg is rare AU
- So basically, mpreg! Would prefer pregnant Stentor here. Whether it’s common in the world, or only a biological quirk some few men’s bodies have, or even something only possible due to the Isu taint (or Alexios’ godly nature, if you’re not going with Isu), all is great. How do the three of them handle having a baby? Was it a decision or an accident? Is the Cult of Kosmos trying to get the kid? Do all three know of the pregnancy, or are they separated for a while and then Stentor suddenly had a baby with him the next time he met one/both of them?
ALL: High Fantasy AU

- I love all sorts of Soulmate AUs – whether it’s played straight where the people find out they’re soulmates, or whether it’s the version where characters rebel against their fate and choose each other despite what destiny says. Or maybe it’s a combination? Alexios and Stentor think they could never be soulmates despite the marks on their skin, but as Alexios starts to date Brasidas (whose own soulmate is maybe dead, or separated), they all get closer. Or any other combination of two of these characters being soulmates but feeling just as strongly for the third.
- I’m also interested in all sorts of soulmate varieties: soulmate marks, first words to soulmate written on the skin, can only see colour once you’ve met your soulmate, innate emotional connection from when they meet or since forever, or whatever else you can come up with.
- Maybe in some rare cases, people have two soulmates. Does it only activate when all three of them come together? Were Stentor and Brasidas together already, but always knew (from the shape of their marks or whatever) that they were missing a third? Or is it a total surprise to them?
Assassin’s Creed (Barnabas/Herodotos)
Okay, I can’t help it, these two are just really cute together and I would seriously be happy for anything involving them. They keep by your side throughout the whole story and loud, exuberant Barnabas makes such a great contrast to quiet, more subdued Herodotos. They spend a lot of time together on Alexios’ ship and seem to get along pretty well, even though they obviously banter a bit and have different views on many things. For smut, I prefer bottom Herodotos.
ALL: Characters become friends/allies earlier than canon
ALL: Different first meeting
- I suppose we don’t actually know their first meeting except for the fact that they had met before, apparently. So show me what they got up to! Did Barnabas perhaps save Herodotos from a tight spot with a terrifying sea monster? (Or does it just become that in retellings and was perhaps a bit less impressive in reality? Not that Herodotos isn’t still thankful!) Or did Herodotos talk Barnabas out of a bad situation where he’d gotten into trouble with some people? Maybe they had a passionate affair or heavy crush back in the day, but then were separated and never found each other again until now.
AC: The Isu don't exist but Greek mythology does
- Barnabas is obviously way into the gods and Herodotos was known for strewing them all over his Histories. They’re also both around Alexios a lot and if the gods exist, he’d be very embroidered with them, I’d guess. Barnabas and Herodotos having a bit of an adventure of their own involving some god or mythological creature would be awesome. You know Barnabas would love it. And maybe there’s even some direct interaction: maybe Barnabas is some far-off descendant of Poseidon’s, which is why crazy ocean things actually do appear uncommonly often before him, or maybe a muse comes to help Herodotos write?
ALL: Alpha/Beta/Omega
- Omega Herodotos would be a lot of fun. Is it unusual that he’d be travelling around all alone? Maybe he hides his nature or simply avoids making it a talking point, but when he gets closer to Barnabas, he tells him about it or Barnabas finds out. Is Barnabas an alpha or a beta?
- Herodotos figured he was too old to still go into heat, but no such luck... however, in Barnabas he has a good friend willing to lend a hand (okay, maybe it really was just to get him off the ship and somewhere secluded at first, but then it turns steamier).
ALL: Same-sex marriage possible in homophobia-free AU of canon time period
ALL: Secret Marriage
- Who proposed and how was it done? Did Herodotos write love poetry? Did Barnabas take him to some beautiful little island he’d found on his travels?
- Also here for the wedding night or general newlywed or long-time-wedded-couple bliss.
- For whatever reason, Barnabas and Herodotos neglected to tell Alexios at first that they have been married for years. How does he react when he finds out or they eventually reveal it to him?
- Why would they keep their marriage secret? Maybe men aren’t allowed to marry or maybe Herodotos generally wants to keep Barnabas out of the political trouble Herodotos’ connection with Perikles might get him into.
ALL: Shapeshifter AU
ALL: Accidental Shapeshifter Marriage Due to Unknowing Theft of Animal Skin
- I’d love whatever you can come up with here. Is one of them an animal shifter or can transform into a merman or can wear a thousand faces? Does it help them out of a tight spot, or maybe get them into one? How does the other find out and what do they make of it? Why is the shifter the way they are? Are some people just born like that or did they have contact with a god(ess) or something else?
- Either one of them is a shapeshifter (an animal, or maybe even a merman?). The other finds the pelt/plumage/whatever of the other and thus accidentally binds them into a marriage. Of course, the shifter already was romantically interested in the other regardless. How does the person who accidentally stole the animal skin find out? Are they worried their lover is with them only out of obligation?
- For another AU, maybe one of them finding the pelt/plumage/etc. of the other is how they meet. When does the other find out about the secret? Maybe they’ve been together for years until Alexios realises thanks to his Isu powers that one of them is a shifter and tells his husband, or some other event spurs the realisation for the human. How can the shifter convince his lover he does honestly love him regardless?

- Have Herodotos and Barnabas known they were soulmates for a long while, but had to separate for some reason? If so, how is the reunion? Or do they only find out now that they’re soulmates when they’re on the Adrestia (maybe they never touched before and that is a condition to trigger it)?
Assassin’s Creed (Haytham Kenway/Charles Lee)
I love Haytham and Charles, villains who really respect and like each other and stand behind their idea of a world of order being what is needed for humanity where they guide the rest of us stupid sheeple humans to a better future, lol. I immensely enjoy young Charles’ senpai-notice-me dynamic with Haytham and his adoration for him; but I also love that eventually it goes both ways, when Charles becomes Haytham’s trusted second-in-command. For smut, I prefer bottom Charles.
AC: Charles Lee is an Assassin
AC: Haytham Kenway is an Assassin
- I guess if you take them together, you could make a version of the game were Haytham and Charles are both Assassins. Are they sent undercover together, Haytham deep in and Charles a new Assassin recruit come to aide him in dismantling the Templar order from within? Or maybe the conceit of the first three chapters of the game is true and the Templars actually are just all Assassins and have come to help the cause of that Brotherhood. How would that change Haytham’s and Charles’ motivations to do what they do?
- Let’s say Charles really does want to join the Templars, but Haytham has secretly been converted before coming to America, or maybe has been undercover for the Assassins for a while. Now he has this new, eager recruit whom he feels could do a lot of good with the right education, so he seduces him (perhaps literally) away from the Templar cause.
- Charles Lee is an Assassin who is sent to infiltrate the Templar order and stop the Colonial rite from forming by killing Haytham Kenway. Only, he really does fall in love with Haytham. Whether he can convince Haytham to become an Assassin or Haytham wins him for the Templars, both would be great.
- After killing Reginald Birch, Haytham goes through a crisis of faith in the Templars and decides to join the Assassins instead. However, he does not wish to leave his good friend/lover Charles behind, or end up on different sides, so he sets to work on winning him over, too. (I’d be happy if he were successful!)
- In the two years Haytham spends chasing Reginald Birch, or perhaps even a little later while in the war, Charles is somehow picked up on by Assassins and converted. Their philosophy appeals to him, but he could never fight Master Kenway! He must try to turn him. Does he succeed, maybe with Haytham being disillusioned after the Braddock and Birch fiascos, and perhaps already being very attached to Charles? (I’d love if Charles can do it.)
ALL: Different first meeting
- Haytham and Charles meet back in good old England, perhaps without realising who the other is, or not yet even knowing why it might be important. Perhaps Haytham saves Charles in some way, giving Charles’ crush a good head start that only grows? Or Charles does something for Haytham that leaves him well-remembered? Or hell, maybe they get in an argument and Charles has to win his favour back when he realises who he actually picked a fight with when they meet again in the Colonies.
- Haytham and Charles have a clandestine affair and never really learn each other’s real or full names (probably for protection, since such things weren’t allowed, of course). Charles never realises that the Haytham Kenway he heard so much about was also his lover. It hits them when they meet again in America.
ALL: Alpha/Beta/Omega
- Omegas need to be attached to an alpha to enter the Templars. Charles is an omega. Haytham just killed Braddock, the Templar alpha he’d been given to. But not to worry, Haytham has an idea who could take over…
- I’d love the contrast between omega Charles, hard-ass career soldier with a lot of ambition and a temper, and him being perfectly happy to show his more submissive side to his alpha (or beta) Haytham.
- Haytham with all his swagger would make a great alpha, but he could also just be a beta who easily out-alphas every alpha and wins omega Charles over on the way. I’d love something about that concept.
ALL: Mpreg is common AU
ALL: Mpreg is rare AU
- Haytham’s own childhood was pretty difficult, what with his father dying when he was so young, his sister being taken away, and so on. Charles was raised into the military by his dad. What do they intend on doing differently with their own children? And what does a Templar education even look like? Would love a fic about them educating their kids, or about them contemplating how they’ll do it when Charles is pregnant with their child.
- Charles is an omega/man who can get pregnant and had a child with Braddock or Birch, which was a stipulation for being accepted into the Order. Haytham kills both of these guys at some point for unrelated reasons, but maybe he already has an idea who should replace the now missing second dad. Meanwhile, Charles never liked Birch/Braddock, anyway, and if Master Kenway said they had to die, well…
- Charles is an omega/man who can get pregnant and the Order says he has to have a kid with a Templar to be taken into the brotherhood. Haytham, after getting to know Charles, volunteers. Charles is overjoyed.
- Haytham and Charles with a big family would be nice. Maybe Haytham really wanted to make up for the fact that he never got to experience family in that way and so he is happy to build one with Charles. Getting pregnant with Haytham’s children is the only thing Charles would happily put his military career on hold for.

Charles and/or Haytham know he’s Haytham’s son, so they take him home. Haytham plans to raise Connor a Templar. Charles gets pulled into it, being Haytham’s lover. Would be absolutely here for some family fluff, Haytham teaching Connor his assassin tricks – maybe practising on an unsuspecting Charles –, Connor befriending Charles’ gaggle of dogs, and so on (with that little whisper in the back that they are raising him into the bad guys club…)
ALL: Shapeshifter AU
ALL: Accidental Shapeshifter Marriage Due to Unknowing Theft of Animal Skin

Does it help them out of a tight spot or maybe get them into one? How does the other find out and what do they make of it? Why is the shifter the way they are? Are some people just born like that or did they have contact with an Isu artefact or something else?
- Either one of them is a shapeshifter (an animal, or maybe even a merman?). The other finds the pelt/plumage/whatever of the other and thus accidentally binds them into a marriage. Of course, the shifter already was romantically interested in the other regardless. How does the person who accidentally stole the animal skin find out? Are they worried their lover is with them only out of obligation?
- For another AU, maybe one of them finding the pelt/plumage/etc. of the other is how they meet. Is the one who found the animal skin worried their whole friendship and love was based on a lie and accidental coercion?
- Somehow, Haytham acquired Charles’ pelt/plumage/etc. before coming to America, without even meeting him. Charles tracked him down, knowing it’s now his duty to marry him. In fact, his eagerness at the start really was not honest and just him trying to win Haytham over (maybe even just to get his skin back), but he fell in love with him quite soon. Eventually, Haytham realises this. Now Charles has to think of something to keep him because Haytham is shocked.
ALL: Arranged Marriage AU
ALL: Same-sex marriage possible in homophobia-free AU of canon time period
ALL: Secret Marriage
ALL: Someone else's spouse can be claimed as your own through winning ritual combat
- Birch arranges Haytham’s marriage to Charles, maybe because it’s tradition to marry other Templars, maybe because he’s trying to distract him from attempting to find his sister or realise the other bad things Birch has done. How does Charles win him over? When does Haytham realise he’s been handed a loyal ally (more loyal to him than Birch, in fact)?
- If this is historically accurate and men can’t marry, I’m sure it wouldn’t actually stop either of them from proposing eventually and having some sort of wedding and secret marriage. When have the Templars ever been held back by the small-minded morals of ordinary sheeple, after all?
- If men can marry in their time period, or this is a Modern AU with Abstergo employees Haytham and Charles, which one of them proposes?
- Charles is unhappily married to Braddock. When Haytham realises Braddock isn’t even an asset to the order anymore, he decides he really doesn’t care about his opinion and challenges him to a duel for Charles’ hand. (Could also work with just a random OC husband.)
- Haytham is in an unhappy arranged marriage with someone he doesn’t care for. Charles decides to challenge the husband as per the rules of ritual combat. Haytham is quite charmed.
ALL: High Fantasy AU
- Time to add magic and maybe a few unicorns. Can both Haytham and Charles do some sort of magic, or only one of them? What powers do they have? Do people choose their magic education or are they born with certain talents? Does almost everyone have them or is it rare? Is Haytham, by way of protagonist power, especially powerful in the arcane arts? Also, what about mythical creatures and such? Is Haytham like, a half-elf or something because his daddy was always adventurous in his conquests? Did a giant Kraken drink all that tea in the Boston harbour? Is the frontier regularly besieged by undead necromancer creatures? Are Charles’ dogs his familiars?
ALL: Vampires
- I feel like the relationship between Haytham and Charles could so easily be translated into vampire and Renfield/blood doll, lol, so Charles finding out about Haytham’s vampire nature and becoming his food source would be fun. But maybe Haytham struggles with the fact that after a while, he realises he would like to turn Charles into his immortal companion.
- Perhaps Haytham did turn Charles and the two of them are still alive (well, “alive”, they are vampires) and Templars in the modern day.
- Alternatively, monster AU where Haytham and Charles have to fight evil vampires!

Pride & Prejudice – Jane Austen
Fitzwilliam Darcy/Charles Bingley
Bingley and Darcy have such a great relationship in the novel and obviously are already very fond of each other, so it shouldn’t be difficult to push that a little further. (This could be pre-canon or canon divergence, but I’d rather the women they end up married to in canon were not in the story as their lovers.) For smut, I prefer bottom Bingley.

ALL: Someone else's spouse can be claimed as your own through winning ritual combat
ALL: Arranged Marriage AU
- If marriage is not allowed in their time period, I’d still love to see how they work themselves up to a secret marriage. Which one of them proposes? Darcy, since he’s often the one making decisions? Bingley, since he’s more enthusiastic and optimistic? What do they do for a wedding and which one of their family/friends know, if any?
- If Darcy could marry Bingley, would he have done it some weeks after getting to know him? Or did he not think much of him at first and by the time he realised how much he liked him, it seemed too late, maybe, or he figured Bingley would prefer a husband with a brighter temperament? What pushes them to confess their feelings and marry, after all?
- If the marriage was arranged, maybe by their parents, did Darcy think Bingley was a bad choice at first? Did Bingley find Darcy intimidating or too stern? How did they work it out?
- Bingley got married young. It’s not a happy marriage and the husband isn’t great, either because Bingley was, well, young and stupid and chose the wrong man, or because it was arranged by his father and they’re just unsuited. When Bingley befriends Darcy, Darcy eventually makes the decision that he’s going to claim Bingley for himself via ritual combat against the husband (maybe a duel with pistols?).
- Darcy was put in an arranged marriage some years back with a rather intolerable man he is very unhappy with. Eventually, Bingley decides to hell with propriety, he’s going to challenge the husband for Darcy’s hand.
ALL: Dating a Single Parent AU
- Bingley absolutely seems like the kind of guy who might end up with an oopsie baby. To protect the mother’s honour and identity (or because it’s an mpreg baby), Bingley raises the child by himself – at least until Darcy comes along.
- Years ago, Darcy had a youthful indiscretion and the result is a child he raises alone (to protect the mother’s, or, in an mpreg case, father’s honour and identity). Bingley gets along fabulously with the child. It makes it even more difficult for Darcy not to love him.

- Darcy accidentally gets Bingley pregnant. Of course they get married, but Bingley isn’t sure if Darcy is just doing it for the child or to save Bingley’s honour (which is not the case, Darcy loves him). Them figuring their relationship out during the marriage while also getting used to the newborn would be interesting.
- Two men can only marry if it’s proven that one of them can get pregnant, as only very few can. Darcy and Bingley set to work to see if one of them can do it. They’ve pretty much given up after some years, but surprisingly, Bingley finally ends up pregnant.
- Some family fluff would be great! Maybe Darcy is very nervous while Bingley is pregnant or when the new kid is born. Bingley, perhaps, manages to calm him down a little bit?

Is one of them an elf, or under a curse the other has to break, or a wizard? I mean, it is high fantasy!
- However, I’d also love high fantasy Regency. Can both Darcy and Bingley do some sort of magic, or only one of them? What powers do they have? - Darcy and Bingley don’t seem like they’d be obvious soulmates, having such different tempers, and Darcy may even have thought Bingley pretty vapid at some point. How surprised were they when they realised they were soulmates? Did they worry about it at first? What brought them around?
A Song of Ice and Fire – G.R.R. Martin
ALL: Alpha/Beta/Omega
- Robert claims Stannis lacks the instincts a proper alpha has. Davos isn’t much of a well-bred omega, sailing about the world alone and hanging around criminals and talking back to his high-born alpha lord now when he thinks it necessary. In short, other people may think they’re a bit odd, but they find each other irresistible.
- Davos goes into heat while they’re still under siege in Storm’s End. Would love both the smutty version where he and alpha Stannis blow off some steam together (possibly with Stannis insisting that of course they have to marry after that, obviously, whereas Davos was just happy to get as much as a tumble from him and did not expect more); or the knightly one where Stannis resists the urge and shuts Davos up somewhere for his own protection from the other knights and Davos is thankful for it later.
- I’d also think it were cute if Stannis is a beta and those don’t usually get with omegas, on account of them not being able to satisfy them (supposedly). But Stannis and Davos actually get on perfectly and Davos is very happy with him and annoyed at people who suggest otherwise and tear further at Stannis’ already weak self-confidence when it comes to intimate matters.
ALL: Accidental Shapeshifter Marriage Due to Unknowing Theft of Animal Skin
ALL: Shapeshifter AU
- I’d love whatever you can come up with here. Is one of them an animal shifter or can transform into a merman or can wear a thousand faces? Does it help them out of a tight spot, or maybe get them into one? How does the other find out and what do they make of it? Why is the shifter the way they are? Are some people just born like that or is it special magic?
- Either one of them is a shapeshifter (an animal, or maybe even a merman?). The other finds the pelt/plumage/whatever of the other and thus accidentally binds them into a marriage. Of course, the shifter already was romantically interested in the other regardless. How does the person who accidentally stole the animal skin find out? Are they worried their lover is with them only out of obligation?
ALL: Arranged Marriage AU
ALL: Same-sex marriage possible in homophobia-free AU of canon time period
- Stannis is supposed to marry someone he finds completely unbearable; or Davos is being strong-armed into a marriage with a lord or lady who has taken a fancy to him and Davos doesn’t have the clout to actually say no. Stannis saves Davos or Davos saves Stannis by marrying him, blocking him for other connections. But of course, this is not the simple deal it seemed to be at first, since they both have feelings for each other.
- It’s decided Stannis is better taken off the marriage market, so he is married to Davos, who has little and means nothing and won’t disturb anyone’s political games. How do they make their arranged marriage work? Were they already in love with each other, or at least one of them, or is it a slow process during the marriage?
- For an AU, let’s say Davos’ sons were born of him, not of his wife (or at least however many of them would already exist at whatever time you want to set this). Stannis’ marriage got annulled because he and his wife didn’t have any children. Solution: Stannis is made to marry Davos, who has already proven fertile. He may not be a great choice status-wise, but hey, at least he’ll probably produce heirs if Stannis can manage it this time.
- Of course, I’d also love any story in which Stannis choses that he simply wants to marry Davos, or that because they have slept together it’s his duty (cue Davos worrying whether propriety is the only reason Stannis marries him, but of course it’s not).
ALL: Mpreg is common AU
ALL: Mpreg is rare AU
GOT: Magic power is hereditary and noble houses choose spouses to perfect their bloodlines
- So basically, mpreg! Would prefer pregnant Davos for these prompts. Whether it’s common in the world, or only a biological quirk some few men’s bodies have, or even something only possible due to Melisandre’s (or some other) magic, all is great. How do these two handle parenthood? Was it a decision, a conscious attempt to conceive an heir, or an accident?
- Perhaps Stannis and Davos fell into bed together and the next time they meet, Davos is visibly pregnant. Once Davos tells him that yes, it is his child, Stannis decides he will marry him, come what may. Of course, it helps that he really loves Davos; but Davos may be worried he is just doing it because he’s so honourable.
- Davos does not have powerful magic of any sort, neither elemental, nor shapeshifting, nor any other discipline, but Stannis insists on marrying him, anyway, despite the fact that people tell him it could dilute his great Baratheon magic bloodline (what specialisation do they have, anyway? I’d love to know). To everyone’s surprise, the magic their children inherit combines the strong Baratheon magic talents in an unexpected way with that almost useless flicker of magic potential for some discipline that Davos has. This makes their kids actually tremendously powerful.
- Through some quirk of nature or genetics, Davos has an unusual, strong magic talent (maybe something related to the sea or his job? Like shifting into a merman, elemental control, weather control, turning invisible… but could be something completely different, too). Now that he is a knight, several lords and ladies are very keen on getting his bloodline mixed up with theirs. Of course, Davos isn’t quite so eager to get with someone who probably respects little about him but the fact that he can make powerful babies. Besides, he’s already interested in someone… and how does Stannis take to so many people trying to marry his knight, anyway?
- As above, but when Robert realises that Stannis has found someone with a valuable magical talent, he decides to arrange a marriage between them. How do the two deal with that?
ALL: Dating a Single Parent AU
- Davos has his first two, three sons already when he meets Stannis’, but he and his wife split (or any other reason he’s left a single parent) and now Davos raises them. Stannis wants to help his knight, since he feels responsible for Davos’ family, but maybe because he has a bit of a crush on him, too. How does young Stannis fare as a step-dad?
- Davos came to Storm’s End heavily pregnant by someone who definitely won’t care and gives birth to the kid during the siege. Stannis accidentally slides into the role of father.
- Stannis is left a single father early in his marriage, maybe because Selyse leaves him and the baby. Luckily he still has Davos, who is happy to help. Maybe they even have to go through Shireen’s period of greyscale together and Davos falls (deeper) in love with Stannis seeing how he fights for his daughter?
ALL: Role Swap AU
- I love that there’s several different ways this could go. Is Stannis as a lowborn guard still somehow the defender of Storm’s End (and maybe a Baratheon bastard?), and Davos a lord from a noble but shady family come to rescue him with onions as in canon? Is Davos the king’s brother and Stannis the smuggler? I’m here for it and all other ideas.
ALL: Soulmate AU
- I love all sorts of Soulmate AUs – whether it’s played straight where the pairing finds out they’re soulmates, or whether it’s the version where characters rebel against their fate and choose each other despite what destiny says.
- I’m also interested in all sorts of soulmate varieties: soulmate marks, first words to soulmate written on the skin, can only see colour once you’ve met your soulmate, innate emotional connection from when they meet or since forever, or whatever else you can come up with.
- Maybe it’s the usual way that people are often sorted with soulmates broadly from their own social classes and only in rare cases do you end up with someone totally unfitting. Are Stannis and Davos surprised? Are their prejudices attached to this sort of connection (the noble partner must have a low mind, etc.)?
- Soulmates are not distributed within social classes but at random. Still, the king can’t just marry any beggar off the street, so for nobles it’s socially accepted to keep your lower-born soulmate in a sort of concubine role. Davos figures that’s what he is in for but Stannis wants to marry.
ALL: Modern Setting
ALL: Organized Crime
- For a Modern AU, I’d be interested in seeing how one could tell a story with them in the modern world (whether it’s our world or Westeros with equivalent modern levels of progress and industrialisation). Would Stannis be CEO in a branch of the family business and Davos his PA? Would Stannis and Selyse have split up if they could? (Would Robert and Cersei, thereby preventing the whole murder thing?) Would Stannis be a lonely single parent overworked trying to pick up his brother’s slack in the family business, and Davos co-parenting his boys with his divorced wife and their kids happen to go to the same kindergarten? But that’s just some ideas – run wild!
- Organised Crime is a good variation for Modern AU as well (or Modern-ish if you prefer… 1920s could also be modern, right?). It might even make sense to still have the finger-hacking here if Davos swears fealty to Stannis after he saved him from a difficult situation, but nevertheless has stolen from his family/their turf by smuggling there before. Stannis’ sense of honour could be born of some sort of Mafia-esque family or gang background.
- I'm also here for the Baratheons being a well-known pirate/shady mercenary/other type of criminal family in normal timelines Essos/Westeros as well, though.
ALL: Regency AU
- I’m ready for anything here, really, whether it’s a realistic portrayal of Regency England (or Regency Westeros) or a slightly more breezy Pride & Prejudice-esque fare, I love it all. How would their social ranks translate here? How do they get to know each other, is it also through a siege, or does Davos win Stannis’ favour in another way? How many people does Stannis scandalise when he actually dances at a ball for once and it’s with a former smuggler?
GOT: Stannis is King
- Robert’s rebellion succeeded, but Robert dies shortly after. Stannis becomes king.
- Stannis manages to ally with Renly and wins the crown at the Blackwater.
- Stannis becomes king after defeating the White Walkers (and without burning his daughter, if she exists in this version of the story).
- Literally any other scenario, I just love King Stannis AUs and how Davos would fit into his new life. Is he the Hand? Master of ships? King consort? What do the other nobles think about his amount of power? Do him and Stannis have kids to inherit the throne, through adoption or mpreg or by raising Shireen together?
GOT: Night Watch's Lord Commander Stannis
- Maybe Stannis’ parents still kept to some older traditions and, when they had a third boy, decided to send one of their kids up North to the Wall. Or, Robert’s rebellion fails and Stannis is send to the Wall for his participation, or any other scenario. Stannis actually does pretty good in the Night’s Watch and works his way up to Commander. He also meets smuggler Davos who sometimes helps them get necessary things they couldn’t otherwise acquire/who was sentenced to take the black for his crimes and becomes his advisor and friend. Would love anything, from just their everyday life up in the cold North to them dealing with Wildlings or White Walkers.
GOT: Exiled Stannis as captain of an Essos mercenary company
- Robert’s rebellion failed and Stannis had to flee. In Essos, he manages to put together or take over a mercenary company, taking jobs for them after his own code of honour. He also meets Davos, a smuggler whom he gets along with very well. Maybe as another Westerosi, Davos helps Stannis out in the beginning? Or they meet later and combine forces for something. Or they just hang out in the same circles and get closer. (If you’re so inclined, I’d also love a version of this where Stannis had little Renly in tow and him and Davos raise him in Essos.)
GOT: Magic is more commonplace but only nobles are allowed to wield it
- Well, ASOIAF already has magic, but this would be more of an, I don’t know, maybe Western RPG approach, you know, the kind of world where someone being a mage isn’t considered very special or even uncommon. However, to make sure they don’t get usurped by lightning-wielding peasants, the nobles have managed to implement over many centuries that no one is allowed to use their magic powers unless they’re at least a knight. Of course, it still gets done. Especially if you’re already on the wrong side of the law… what powers does Davos have? Does Stannis teach him to control them even better when he’s knighted and thus allowed? And what about Stannis? What can he do?
Good Omens (TV)
Crowley/Aziraphale
I’m another one of these people whose teenage love for the book couple was reignited by the new adaption. I just think they’re absolutely adorable and would love a story set in any point of the timeline, from the beginning of the world to the post-Notpocalypse. For smut, I prefer bottom Aziraphale (he can have male genitalia or female or switch it around, all is fine).
ALL: Alpha/Beta/Omega
- Angels are separated into A/B/O categories and Aziraphale happens to be an omega. The same is true for demons – they were angels once, after all. Crowley is either an alpha or a plucky beta who has no trouble taking on an omega. Either way it doesn’t help them with the whole “trying not to fraternise” bit that they fit together in this way, too.
- Maybe with the fall, the demons also lost their A/B/O status. Doesn’t matter, omega Aziraphale is still desperately attracted to Crowley and Crowley more than ready to deal with weird angel biology.
ALL: Arranged Marriage AU
ALL: Arranged Marriage Is Intended To Bring Understanding Between Two Species
- At some point, maybe as early as the beginning of creation after the first great war when the demons fell, or after the Notpocalypse, or anywhere in between, Metatron gets a message from God saying she wants to foster understanding between demons and angels (or that they have to get along anyway so they may as well start trying), so two of them should marry. The angels and demons quickly have their sacrifices figured out: it’s their two agents on earth. How do Crowley and Aziraphale react? Is it basically just a convenience to them because they were already dating? Does it force them to confront however many years of pining? Is it way in the beginning, right after Eden, when they’re not yet quite sure what to make of each other? And how do their respective “families” meddle?
ALL: Characters choose to get soulbonded for reasons
- Let’s say the trick Aziraphale and Crowley pull off at the end only works if you get soulbonded and thus mix your beings a little, otherwise the demons and angels would see through the disguise. That’s a small price to keep on living, right? Especially when you’re secretly as head over heels for each other as these two are…
- After the Notpocalypse, Aziraphale and Crowley decide they need a bit of protection. Maybe angels aren’t allowed to break up soulbonds because they’re holy. Of course, no one expected a crazy angel to go and soulbond with a demon. And the demons probably don’t need anyone in the underworld who is tainted by all that angelic purity, so the soulbond also protects Crowley in that way. But is it just to keep safe that they did this?
ALL: Mpreg is common AU
ALL: Mpreg is rare AU
- Some (or even all) angels can get pregnant. Aziraphale and Crowley figured since angels need to make an effort to even be able to participate in reproductive activities, though, they’d have to make the same conscious effort to conceive. Turns out, no, that just happens.
- It was assumed angels can’t get pregnant. However, there’s a small biological quirk which allows it if it’s with a demon. Not that anyone would ever figure that out because that means a demon and an angel would have slept together. And that wouldn’t happen. Of course.
ALL: Secret Marriage
- Aziraphale and Crowley get married sometime in their long, long acquaintance, but obviously have to keep it a secret. Would love anything, from the proposal (which one of them proposes? How do they even get the idea?), the workarounds they find for the wedding so Crowley doesn’t get hurt by anything too holy, the wedding night, the honeymoon, or later heaven and hell finding out that they don’t just act like an old married couple, they’ve actually been married for however many years.
- Every demon was an angel once. All angels had an angelic soulmate. Usually, your soulmate is someone who matches you, so there were basically no bonds shattered by the Fall (either both partners became demons or both remained angels), but one pair ended up on both sides of the divide. Aziraphale and Crowley know they should renounce their bond, but strangely enough they still seem to fit together quite well.
- Soulmate bonds were not in there in the fabric of creation, but only got worked in later and they’re a human feature. However, Crowley and Aziraphale have spent so much time among the humans that some things have stuck… and suddenly they find themselves soulmates.
- Aziraphale’s soulmate is an angel. Crowley’s soulmate is a demon. (Feel free to pick some out of the cast or make up OCs.) Neither of them gets on at all with their fated partner, who probably thinks Crowley/Aziraphale is totally intolerable as well with how strange they have become on earth. Crowley and Aziraphale are also desperately in love with each other, but you can’t fight God’s plan – or can you?
GO: Aziraphale and Crowley raise the baby Antichrist
- Crowley is tasked by hell to raise the Antichrist into a proper little demon lord. Crowley recruits Aziraphale for parenting help and the good influence the kid might need to like, not destroy the world.
- Crowley makes a decision (whether it’s a well-thought-out one or one brought on by rising panic) to get involved in the baby-switching game and leave the nuns with the two decoy babies while he grabs the Adversary, Destroyer of Kings, Angel of the Bottomless Pit etc. and races over to the bookshop.
GO: The Arrangement included a sexual aspect
- Aziraphale and Crowley weren’t quite ready to be honest about their massive crushes when they made the Arrangement, so they built in some clause about how their ‘fraternising’ should involve some, er, intimate contact. Maybe Crowley argued that being friends with Aziraphale is keeping him from doing a lot of bad things, after all, so he should be allowed to do some quasi-corrupting to keep the books balanced? Or Aziraphale is the one who suggests this way of keeping Crowley out of trouble… well, or in trouble, as it were for a demon. Would love to see the first negotiations, one of their encounters over the years, or how they handle this after the Notpocalypse, when suddenly there isn’t a pretend reason for them anymore to have to sleep together, but they still want to.
Mass Effect Trilogy
ME: Shepard survives the ending
- Post-ending and with Shepard alive, I really want to see Javik exploring what it’s like to be in a situation that is not an active, rapidly losing war and getting closer to Shepard in the process – who may also have trouble coming down after everything that has happened to him lately.
- When you let him see what was on the Shard, Javik resolves to commit suicide after the Reapers are beaten and join his indoctrinated crew that he had to kill. Perhaps Shepard, with a heavy heart, resolves to bring him to the Cronian Nebula, but the adventures on their travels there and their relationship make Javik see a future for himself, even if he might feel bad about wanting it. Considering his dreams, Shepard obviously also has a lot of survivor’s guilt, much like Javik, so they could also bond over that.
- Shepard resumes his work as Spectre and Javik becomes his loyal crewmember and lover.
- Javik and Shepard relaxing on the hanar homeworld with Javik’s hanar admirers. Bonus if Javik actually manages to be a pretty good “god” to them.
ALL: Alpha/Beta/Omega
- Maybe A/B/O biology was a normal feature in Protheans, the mechanics of which Javik reveals to Shepard when they get closer and Javik tells Shepard he is an omega, which probably at first means absolutely nothing to Shepard. Shepard is quite interested in helping Javik out with his biological urges, though.
- Alternatively, humans are the only species with A/B/O features and Javik helps alpha Shepard handle an inconvenient rut, or in general learns about how to handle an alpha while they get closer.
ALL: Secret Marriage
- Shepard and Javik get closer on the Normandy and decide to have a wedding or equivalent Prothean ceremony, since they’re probably going to die and want to spell out their commitment before. Because there’s a thousand other things going on and neither of them love attention, they keep it secret. I’d love to see any part of the process, though. Who proposes? Does the other even understand at first? What do the wedding and wedding night look like? (And how secret are they – it could still be considered mostly secret if only Shepard’s crew knew. Or is it just for the two of them?)
- They had a secret marriage, but after the not-end-of-the-universe, when people start recovering enough to want celebrity news again, they’re photographed kissing or something, and Shepard or Javik accidentally lets it slip in a response that they can very well kiss their goddamn husband, which of course goes viral on the extranet.
ALL: Mpreg is common AU
ALL: Mpreg is rare AU
- To serve the Prothean empire better in the new cycle and continue their species, Javik was carrying fertilised eggs inside him (they look like insects, so I guess that’s what it’d be? Can also just be normal human-style babies, too, though). Javik figured they simply hadn’t survived the period he spent in stasis. However, he realises eventually that they just needed a little longer to thaw than the rest of him and now he has a Prothean baby/babies. Maybe he already is with Shepard at this point. How does he react? Even if they’re not in a relationship, what does he think about it? Does he help Javik with the parenting, and how qualified are the two of them for that, actually?
- Let’s say Protheans are like asari in that they can create children with any other species and end up with kids that are primarily Protheans. Now that the Reapers are beaten Javik figures he should do his job for the empire and at least try to ensure the Protheans don’t totally die out, i.e. get pregnant. Either he asks Shepard because Shepard is strong and would make a good mate (and also probably because he’s in love…), or Shepard volunteers because he likes him and they all almost got wiped off the face of the universe, so whatever, no time like the present to start a family.
- Shepard accidentally gets Javik pregnant. Neither of them expected their biology to be this compatible, but now they have to deal with the resulting child(ren).
- Javik lived in a time where people were continually dying left, right, and centre, communication and travel lines were shot, and generally you just didn’t expect to find your soulmate unless you got really lucky, so he was never surprised he didn’t. Shepard figured he just had to be one of the few people who are born without a soulmate or his soulmate died young or chose to be unregistered (I assume if there’s identifying marks and such, there’d be an extranet database to speed up the process of finding your soulmate). Imagine their surprise when Javik pops out of the cryo container and suddenly they realise they were separated from their soulmate by 50,000 years of time, not to mention a species difference.
- Javik’s soulmate died with all the other Protheans in the last cycle (maybe he was even among the crew the Reapers indoctrinated against him, or among those who were supposed to wake up with him but never did). Shepard is separated from his soulmate or lost them as well (a couple of Shepard backstories lend themselves to that). Shepard and Javik still think that on some level, the two of them are also soulmates, a second chance for both of them.
ALL: High Fantasy AU
- Whether you wanna translate Mass Effect wholesale into some sort of medieval high fantasy setting or just give me magic in space, I’m here for it. What would Javik be in such a world? As a biotics specialist, I suppose a wizard makes sense, and he knows some biotics other people don’t, so maybe he knows the arcane magiks of the Elder People? What about Shepard, what role does he have? Do the space ships run on magic or are they just big Age of Sails vessels in the vein of Disney’s Treasure Planet? Are there space dragons?
Vampyr
Vampyr: Jonathan is over 40 years old when the story starts
Vampyr: No canon romance
- These are just kinda my default AUs whenever I consider this game without actively thinking about it, since I didn’t care that much for the romance and think Jonathan has done so many things that early thirties seems a bit too young for him. You can of course involve a past romance with Elisabeth or go with the canon age, though.
- For something more specific, maybe Jonathan’s lack of a canon romance frees him up for a romance with Sean? Some added scenes during the events of the game or an alternate ending with Sean would be great.
ALL: Characters become friends/allies earlier than canon
- This probably works best with the older Jonathan AU, but perhaps also without. Maybe he’s had time enough in London to meet Sean before the whole vampire thing started and they were friends or maybe even in lovers before the war. Dragging Sean bleeding out of a warehouse right after he killed Mary is not how Jonathan imagined their next meeting to go.
- Sean, who has experience with vampires, realises what Jonathan is and helps him through the first chapters of the game. Maybe their budding friendship/relationship also allows Jonathan to realise earlier that Sean is turning undead himself.
Are some people just born like that or is it special magic?
- Either one of them is a shapeshifter (an animal, or maybe even a merman?). The other finds the pelt/plumage/whatever of the other and thus accidentally binds them into a marriage. Of course, the shifter already was romantically interested in the other regardless. How does the person who accidentally stole the animal skin find out? Are they worried their lover is with them only out of obligation? Jonathan is probably mortified that he forced Sean’s hand and compounded his trauma, whereas Sean would be no less terrified of doing something like what has been done to him to another person.
ALL: Same-sex marriage possible in homophobia-free AU of canon time period
ALL: Secret Marriage
- I’m sure Sean would love to get married, being the staunch Catholic he is, but the church in 1918 obviously isn’t going to let him marry Jonathan. However, Sean “these people-eating ghouls are also God’s children” Hampton has always had a somewhat eclectic interpretation of Christianity. I’m sure Jonathan could convince him that they don’t need the church’s approval to be married in the eye of God (or, the other way around, Sean tells Jonathan he believes so).
- Nevertheless, being married officially would be a nice symbol. Let’s say Jonathan and Sean have been together for a long while, like, long enough that gay marriage is actually legal now, and Jonathan thinks it’d be a sweet thing to do for Sean to at least get their current identities married.
- Or maybe this is an AU where same-sex marriage is allowed and Jonathan sets about courting Sean properly. He’s not a priest, after all, so there’s really nothing saying he couldn’t marry a respectable doctor! What do the East End Docks inhabitants and/or Jonathan’s mother and butler say about the relationship? Do Sean and Jonathan wait until they’re married to sleep together, or are they tempted before? How do they arrange the wedding, seeing as Jonathan can’t enter a church? What about the wedding night? I’d love a story/scene about any of these things.
- How does the knowledge that they’re soulmates change their interactions? I assume Jonathan would realise as soon as he picks Sean up in the warehouse, and Sean when he’s conscious again, but do they have even time to contemplate that before the whole blood of hate issue is properly dealt with? Was Sean maybe happy not to have met his soulmate so far because he fears he’s too damaged for a relationship? Does Jonathan wonder if his rather forceful way of preserving Sean’s mental health ruined any chance they had for happiness?
